1 PERSON KILLED, 12 OTHERS INJURED IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN GWAGWALADA
One person has been reported killed and 12 others
injured in a road traffic accident on Gwako-Giri
Expressway, near Gwagwalada in the FCT.
The FRSC Unit Commander, Mr Abubakar
Ahmed, confirmed the report to the News Agency
of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Gwagwalada.
Ahmed said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace
bus with registration number FFA 280 XA,
and attributed it to speeding.
The commander said the accident occurred about
5.30p.m. on Friday when the driver lost control of
the vehicle.
According to him, the FRSC unit has yet to know
where the bus was coming from or its
destination.
He said one of the male passengers died on the
spot, while the 12 others were seriously injured.
The FRSC commander added that
the deceased been deposited at the morgue of
the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH).
Meanwhile, the injured passengers, consisting
of six males, three females and three children,
are receiving treatment at the UATH and St.
Mary's Hospital in Gwagwalada.
Ahmed advised road users to avoid speeding and
reckless driving.
An eye witness, who simply identified herself as
Chinwen, had earlier told NAN that the bus, which
conveyed 13 passengers, was speeding toward
Abuja city centre.
She said the vehicle swerved off the road into the
bush and somersaulted.
``While we were helping to bring the victims out
of the bus, we discovered that one of them was
already dead,'' Chinwen said.
