Delta Governor Urges Traditional Rulers In The State To Monitor SURE-P Projects

Traditional rulers in Delta State have been urged
by the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan,
to assist in monitoring projects on-going in their
domains with the Federal Government's Subsidy
Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme,
SURE-P funds, adding that he would personally
ensure that people at the grassroots benefit
immensely from the N1.6 billion already
released to the 25 local government areas in the
state as their share of the SURE-P initiative.
Speaking with stakeholders and traditional
rulers at a Town Hall meeting in Asaba, the
governor, who was represented by the Secretary
to the State Government, Mr. Ovuozorie
Macaulay, said that the SURE-P initiative was an
addition to the state projects and programmes,
which were put in place to ensure that the
downtrodden, women and youths in the rural
communities benefit from the initiative.
"I implore our royal fathers, who are the
custodians of our customs and culture, to help in
monitoring projects that are being executed
under the SURE-P initiative as Mr. President,
with all good intentions, has put up the
initiative, so that people at the rural level will
not be neglected.
"Here in Delta State, we have put up many
projects and programmes to ensure that the
down trodden, women and youths in the rural
and riverine communities are not left out of the
benefits and dividends of democracy. So,
everything will be done to ensure the success of
this initiative," the governor said.
Also speaking at the Town Hall meeting,
Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief
Emeka Wogu, said the SURE-P initiative was
designed to transfer part of the wealth saved
from oil subsidy to the provision of employment
opportunities for women, youths and people
with disabilities in the various communities.
The Ovie of Uwvie Kingdom, Abe I, who spoke
on behalf of the royal fathers asked that the
royal fathers should be carried along and be well
informed on the priorities of the SURE-P
initiative.
