Woman Stabbed to Death By Her Mother- In-Law
A mother-in-law, Mrs Kareen Opara, has
gone underground after allegedly
stabbing her son's wife, Esther Oluchi, to
death in Anguwa Baba area of Nassarawa
State. But the police have launched a hot
chase to fish her out.
The women, who lives in the same
neighbourhood with his son, Chinedu and the
deceased wife, hailed from Imo State. She was
alleged to have been at loggerheads for
sometime over a picture taken by the deceased at
the wedding of her (Kareen's) daughter, last
December.
Trouble was said to have broken out between the
late Oluchi and her mother-in-law when it was
reported to her that Kareen (her mother-in-law)
was caught at a herbalist's home with one of her
photographs. In a bid to retrieve the picture,
Oluchi approached Kareen and pleaded with her
to return the said picture to her but she ignored
all pleas and rather took offence for the
effrontery of her daughter-in-law.
Angered by what she saw as "confrontation" by
her son's wife, Mrs Kareen confronted her son
Chinedu and warned him to call his wife to order
or risk being punished with her.
Unknown to the son that the mother had not
forgiven his wife for daring to ask her to return
her picture, Chinedu tried to mediate in the spat
to appease his mother and the wife.
Family sources said a peace meeting summoned
by Chinedu to reconcile his mother with the late
wife ended in violence, as the mother, who was
armed with a sharp machete, went for her
daughter-in-law, who was carrying one of her
two daughters on her back and stabbed her in
the tummy. The machete pierced through her
abdomen and she bled to death.

Commercial Blood Donation Is Dangerous – Lagos Govt., NMA
Lagos State Government and Nigerian Medical
Association, NMA, yesterday, condemned
commercial blood donation in the country,
saying that it was against the Voluntary Non-
Remunerated Blood Donation, VNRBD,
approved by the World Health Organisation,
WHO.
Speaking at different fora to mark the World
Blood Donor Day, WBDD, today, the state
government and NMA, said though voluntary
donation was low in Nigeria, donation for
commercial purpose portended a great danger to
provision of an effective and efficient blood
transfusion system in the country.
At a briefing, Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide
Idris, faulted blood donation for non-altruistic
reasons, warning that the state would, if notified,
clampdown on any centre that perpetrated such
act in Lagos.
According to him, "The paid donor is likely to
involve in other activities for money as well and
will most likely not be living a healthy lifestyle.
In addition, they stress the health system
unnecessarily as the blood has to be discarded
after the rigorous and strict screening process
when the blood is found to be unwholesome.
This is why we join the rest of the world every
year in celebrating our voluntary donors who
give the gift that saves lives on a daily basis."
On the theme of this year's celebration tagged:
"Give the Gift of Life: Donate Blood" Idris
lamented that "only approximately 8 per cent of
all the blood transfused is from voluntary
donations adding that it is a far cry from the 100
per cent target set by the WHO for the whole
world to achieve by 2020"
On its part, NMA President, Dr. Osahon
Enabulele, said blood transfusion was a life
saving procedure without which complex
medical and surgical procedures, maternal and
child health care activities and trauma care
would not produce expected results.

Tonto Dike opens up on her fall at Iyanya’s London concert
Controversial actress turned singer Tonto Dike
hit the stage hard to perform at Iyanya's Kukere
Concert on the 9th of June 2013 in London only
to hit the floor even harder moments later.
Tonto Dike has finally come forward to clear the
air concerning this fall following rumours she
may have been 'drunk' or ' high' or both before
hitting the stage.
She tells Nollywood Movies Sky329 that her
dress was the chief culprit followed by her shoes
and then the 'slippery' floor.
"It was a big…well not a big fall and I managed it
well. I fell because I had this very long dress,
and this very high shoe and a slippery ground,
and because I wasn't supposed to dance at my
first 'coming out'. I had another outfit I could
put on to really perform if I wanted to; it was my
choice but I just came on and they played the
song and I just had to dance and I slipped.
I made it fun really, I got up and danced, I didn't
want to disappoint anybody especially myself.
When I went back stage, I was dancing my head
off.
I couldn't go back on stage because Iyanya was
on stage and it was about closing. It was all his
time. Nobody went back on stage after him. I
wish I went back to dance again and not fall that
time.
