Man Beheads 13 Year-Old-Girl In Benue

A middle aged man, Terseer Angyo, has been
arrested by the Benue state Police command for
allegedly beheading a 13 year old girl, Mnyorhan
Asase, at Aliade in Gwer local government area
of the state.
Vanguard gathered from a sourcesthat the 13
year old girl was slaughtered by her assailant in a
forest area in Aliade while on her way back from
a local community market in a nearby village.

First Lady’s jamboree: Accident Victim Still In Hospital

Mrs. Ifeanyi Chima was one of Lagos
delegates that attended a peace rally
organised for women by the First Lady, Mrs.
Patience Jonathan, in Abuja on August 15,
2013.
The vehicle, which Chima and five other
women were travelling in, had an accident at
Gwagwalada Road, near Abuja, when they
were going back to Lagos the following day.
Chima and four others were lucky to survive
the accident, but sustained various degrees of
injuries.
Their coordinator, Princess Abigael Adisa, died
in the crash. Until her death, Adisa was the
Coordinator of the Women for Change and
Development Initiative in Ifako/Ijaye Local
Government Area of Lagos.
Chima, in an interview with Saturday PUNCH
at the Intensive Care Unit of Primus
International Super Specialty Hospital
(popularly known as Indian Hospital) in Karu
on Tuesday, painted a sad picture of how she
almost lost her limbs to the accident.
She called on Nigerian doctors to "sit up" like
their foreign counterparts and improve on their
relationship with patients.
She said, "I was involved in a fatal accident
along Gwagwalada Road after the Women rally
in Abuja on our way back to Lagos. We were
six women and a driver in the vehicle; five of
us had injuries. Our coordinator died.
"Five of us were brought to this hospital. I had
a broken left arm and dislocation on my left
leg. Mrs. Titilayo Olorunda also had a broken
leg. She has been taken to another ward
because she was formerly here (in the
intensive care unit). But after a surgery she
was taken to her ward. When I had the injury, I
had some open wounds in my hands."
Chima also gave a vivid account of her
experiences at the University of Abuja Teaching
Hospital in Gwagwalada where, she said, a
particular doctor exhibited poor attitude to
patients.
"At the specialist hospital in Gwagwalada,
instead of treating the skin, they covered it up.
It was when they brought us here (Indian
Hospital) when I was complaining bitterly that
the doctor said they should open it. That was
when they started treating the place I had
bruises. I had my surgical operation some days
ago.
"The doctors and nurses here are wonderful.
This is what I want our doctors and nurses in
Nigerian hospitals to learn. They should be
caring. Human life needs to be taken care of.
When you see somebody in pains, take care of
that person because that person needs you at
that point in time."

Gov Okorocha denies legalising abortion in Imo

Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo has said
that the bill currently in the House of Assembly is
not for the legalisation of abortion.
Okorocha said this when he reacted to reports
that the state government had legalised abortion
in Owerri on Friday
He explained that the bill would eliminate violence
in private and public life, prohibit all forms of
violence, including sexual, psychological, domestic
and harmful traditional practices.

The governor said the bill was also expected to
provide maximum protection and effective
remedies for victims and punishments of
offenders.
Okorocha added that the bill would equally enable
every woman to enjoy reproductive rights as well
as the right to medical abortion in cases of
sexual assault, rape, incest.
He also said the bill made provision for right to
medical abortion where the pregnancy endangers
the life of or the physical, mental, psychological
or emotional health of the mother.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that
the Speaker of assembly, Mr Benjamin
Uwajumogu, had also denied passing any law
legalising abortion in the state.
Uwajumogu decried the misunderstanding of the
bill, explaining that it was for prevention of
violence and protection of women's rights.
He said the bill, which made provision for the
termination of a foetus in cases of incest or rape,
did not legalise abortion.
The speaker said the house was set to make
amendments to the bill to avoid further
misunderstandings.

Ecobank Staff Dies After Having Sex With 21yrs old Lover In Abakaliki

A banker with EcoBank, Abakaliki branch, Mr.
Boniface Ndukaku, was found dead in a hotel
after having sex with his 21-year-old girlfriend.
According to Telegraphng, Ebonyi State Police
Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Sylvester
Igbo, confirmed that the deceased was in the
hotel for an extra-marital affair, and that his 21-
year-old escort was now in police custody
helping them in the investigation of the matter.
Mr. Ndukaku (45), a family man, was a resident
of the Army Cantonment in Abakaliki and had
taken a 21-year old lady from Mgbowo in Agwu
Local government area of Enugu State to a
hotel.
The young lady was identified as a 200 level
student of Microbiology at the Godfrey Okoye
University, Enugu.
'The girl came out to inform the management of
the hotel that the man that entered the room
with her is behaving in a way that is so strange
that they should come and assist her to know
what to do.
"The hotel worker saw the man in a situation
that was so strange for them to describe, they
decided to call the man's wife through the
contact they saw in the man's phone for her to
come and know what she can do in order to
revive the husband," Igbo said.
"Before the woman could come with the man's
relations, the man had become motionless and
was rushed to hospital.
It was at the Federal Teaching hospital that the
man was declared dead."
Nigerian Telegraph gathered that the wife was
not shocked when she saw the condition of her
husband, while his son was quoted to have said,
"So, Pa, na so you take go."

Sex scandal rocks Owerri prison

Indications emerged yesterday that the
fundamental rights and dignity of female inmates
at the Owerri Prison are now being violated
following allegations that they are subjected to
intimate abuses, which sometimes allegedly
result to unwanted pregnancies.
But the allegation was denied by the Prison
authority, which described it as untrue and
malicious.
However, it was gathered that some of the
female inmates, who were not pregnant as at
the time they were convicted, have been
delivered of babies. But prison sources said that
some of the female convicts were pregnant
before they were imprisoned.
A source, who did not want her name
mentioned, alleged that some of the female
inmates, especially those who are still awaiting
trial, "buy" their freedom to move about with
intimate gratification with some "corrupt prison
officials", who thereafter allow them to access
privileged comforts denied other.
The source said: "The babies delivered by these
inmates are either illegally adopted or outright
sold to operators of baby factories. This has
been going on for a long time and the authorities
are not ready to check the menace," asking:
"How else the situation could be explained, that
a convict could be impregnated without the
knowledge of the prison officials? It is either
that they are allowing their spouses to come and
sleep with them in the prison or they are being
impregnated by those who control them."
When contacted, the prison's Public Relations
Officer, Mr. James Madugba, said that the
allegation could not be true.
Madugba said: "I am speaking authoritatively, it
is impossible to penetrate the female cell, which
is constructed in such a way that it will be
difficult for the female inmates to mingle with
their male counterparts.
"Female inmates are kept in a different building
with its own big gate guarded by female prison
officials who are instructed not to allow male
officials into the building. Female inmates who
were pregnant when they enter the cell are given
adequate care. When time of delivery comes, we
take them to the Federal Medical Centre where
they deliver their children, after which they return
to prison with their babies.
"intimate abuse does not arise, it is simply not
possible. You cannot even see the female cell
from the open compound; it is entirely
segregated from other parts of the prison.
"How can the spouse sleep with their convicted
wives when they are not given the opportunity
to be alone? When they visit, there are female
Prison officials to listen to their discussions and
the cell is finally closed by 6:0pm to visitors."

Two brothers arrested for beating tailor to death

The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos
State, has apprehended two brothers, Wasiu
Bada and Nurudeen Bada, for the alleged murder
of a 32-year-old tailor.
According to the police, the suspects and others
at large were seen beating the deceased, Quadri
Busari, with iron rods and clubs.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the fight broke out
after Busari had a disagreement with the culprits
over the location of a grave on Ogun River Road,
Isheri Oke, Church area of the state.
A lawyer, Mr. Lekan Odunsi, who spoke on
behalf of the Busari family, said the fight was
also related to a scuffle between Olofin and
Oshorun families over the right to the monarchy
in the area.
Odunsi said, "Two families are involved in a
scuffle over the kingship title in the area. The
Olofin of Isheri ruled from 1901 to 1923 and he
was buried next to Busari's house. Busari
happens to be a descendant of the late king.
"On August 3, 2013, around 6pm, some
hoodlums, believed to be loyalists of Chief Lawal
Oshorun, came around the grave and attempted
to erect a kiosk beside it. The grave of the late
king was the vestige of evidence that Olofin
family was entitled to the throne. Busari, who
sighted the hoodlums, went to challenge them.
"The thugs used iron rods, clubs and other items
to beat Busari to death. Some of those that
were seen beating the deceased are, Wasiu
Bada, Nurudeen Bada and one man identified as
Burger."
Odunsi told PUNCH Metro that the deceased
was not seen after the beating and when it was
nightfall, his relatives became worried.
He said the matter was reported at the Isheri
Police Division but the police did not arrest the
suspects since there was no corpse to establish
the case.
It was however learnt that two days later, the
tailor's corpse was seen floating in the Ogun
River.
Odunsi however said the family was
disappointed with the manner the police at Isheri
handled the matter.
He said, "The police arrested the culprits but
later granted them bail, saying there was
information that Busari jumped into the water.
We refused to accept this because his corpse
showed evidence of beating. There were injuries
all over the body.
"The police told us to settle the matter out of
court but we were not satisfied so we demanded
that the matter be transferred to Zone 2
Command."
The Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2, Mr.
Lewi Suleiman, confirmed the arrests to our
correspondent, adding that efforts were on to
arrest more suspects.
Suleiman said investigations were ongoing and
only an autopsy would determine the actual
cause of death.
He said, "Some people wanted to erect a kiosk
at the grave on the said day and there was a
fight between them and the deceased. His
corpse was seen about three days later floating
in the river. We have recovered the corpse and
taken it to a mortuary for autopsy.
"Two brothers have been arrested and we have
charged them to court. Oshorun was also
arrested but was later released because no one
saw him at the crime scene but investigations
are on to determine his level of involvement.
"Oshorun's house was also vandalised by some
infuriated youths following Busari's death but
that is under investigation at the State Criminal
Investigation Department, Yaba."
When contacted on the telephone, Oshorun
referred our correspondent to his lawyer, Mr.
Kola Idowu. Idowu, when contacted, said he
would call back.

now, when things like this happen, they either
spice it up or become economical with details,

announced that Basketmouth and Dakore
Egbuson-Akande will become hosts of this
year's edition.

Birthday message from Mercy Johnson Okojie

A message from Mercy Johnson's heart as she
turns a year older today. Read below...
Today, I thought of many things I would
love to have as birthday gifts and the
many dreams I am still pursuing. In all of
this I'm not losing sight of the fact that if
not for God I might have ended up on the
street like the many kids and young adults
begging for food and some prostituting to
make ends meet. If we know the
circumstances that force some of these
people on the street, we would spare a
thought for them. I am where I am today
purely by the grace of God and the grace of
people who believed in me from the word
go.
Recently, I was at the Boys Reform Home,
Oregun, Lagos, the discussion I had with the
principal Mr. Kotun and much later with the
Special Adviser in charge of allremand homes in
Lagos set me thinking about the boys and girls
on the street. They have dreams too. Can they
fulfill those dreams on the street? The answer
will likely be no; because I won't be where I am
today if I ended up on the street.
For this reason, Mercy Johnson Foundation will
be doing a lot to get kids off the street. We are
not asking people for money or donation, I will
do all I can with the resources God has given
me, and with the support of my husband to help
get these kids off the street and set them on the
path where they can begin to pursue their
dreams. I want to plead with people, fans,
friends and colleagues to spare a thought for the
children on the street. We can begin by
educating people around us, parents, the
children and people in charge of children (Oga-
house help relationship, teacher-student
relationship, and others) on the need to treat
every child like the future of Nigeria depends on
it. And truth be told, our future will not be all
that enjoyable if we let the scourge of 'street-
children' fester. By then, the rich will begin to
cry. I learnt Lagos State Government has 11
homes where most children picked from the
streets are kept, reformed and reunited with their
families after counseling.
That is an initiative Mercy Johnson Foundation
will be supporting and beyond that we will be
going to different states to help spread the
message-Get kids off the street, save the future.
From tomorrow, I will begin to replay some of
the lessons I learnt at the boys' reform home
and we all can contribute to getting the kids off
the street.

The musician also published the real name and
contact information of his manager and advised
people to ignore anyone posing as him to ask for
money.
Inyanya also mentioned some specific examples
of imposters' actions: "A lady called my manger
last week from Ireland saying she almost sent
50k dollars to a fake Iyanya (imposter) for a
show. Another guy from Uyo last night called
that he gave someone who claims to be Iyanya
money for a laptop and a phone and hasn't seen
the person".
Iyanya called on whoever was behind the illegal
acts to stop and warned that "We shall find
you".

Assassins Attack Young Shall Grow Motors Owner Chief Vincent Obianodo, Kill His Driver And Police..

Suspected assassins struck in FESTAC Town,
Lagos Tuesday night, shooting the owner of
popular transport company, Young Shall Grow
Motors, Chief Vincent Obianodo while on his way
back from work.
A police Corporal, Ngozi Chijoke of the Patrol
and Guards (PG), Lagos State Command, who
was with him in his vehicle, was shot dead.
Obianodo's driver was also killed.
The gunmen, it was learnt, opened fire on Chief
Vincent's vehicle around 10pm.
His vehicle had been double-crossed in a lonely
area around 22 Road in FESTAC and the
assailants
opened fire.
Some policemen who were on patrol heard the
sound of the gunshots and moved to the scene
which resulted in a serious exchange of gunfire.
Two of the gunmen were killed by the policemen
who were on patrol while other members of the
gang escaped with bullet injuries in a Highlander
Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), which was riddled,
perforated with bullets.
Police say one AK49 and AK47 rifles with 400 live
ammunition and 10 fully loaded magazines were
recovered from the suspects.
Chief Obianodo sustained bullet wounds in one of
his hands, which he had used to block his chest
against the hail of bullets.
A police source said he would have killed him if
the police did not arrive on time.
Chief was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

Okocha Joins Nollywood: Produces Movie About Majek Fashek, Played By Francis Duru

Word out at the moment has it that our
dear Nigerian football legend Austin JJ Okocha is
currently producing a movie about reggae star
Majek Fashek.
The movie's screen play is reportedly written by
Charles Novia, and features Fracis Duru as
Majek Fasek, Sam Dede, Stella Damascus and
other top Nollywood actors.
According to Novia, the movie is shooting on
35mm and took about 3 years to fine-tune. It is
presently at its pre-production stage, after which
the crew will travel to New York in October to
shoot the America scene, which is the major part
of the film.
Fracis Duru, as it was gathered has been
undergoing guitar lessons, and extensive study of
Majek's character for the past eight month to fit
the role.

Beverly Osu hospitalized for sustaining ankle injury

According to reports, Beverly who returned on
Tuesday night was admitted on Wednesday at
Faith City Hospital, Oju Olobun Close, off Bishop
Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

injury on the finale of the reality show while

Trucks Crash On Ikorodu Road, Driver And Assistant Injured

There was an accident at Mile 12
axis of Ikorodu Road in Lagos,
southwest Nigeria, in the early
hours of today, involving three trucks, one of
which had broken down on the busy road and
there was no road sign indicating that a vehicle
is ahead.
This resulted in serious traffic jam during the rush
hour.
According to an eyewitness account, the accident
occurred at about 4a.m. and involved a truck
conveying bags of salt belonging to Bizler
Logistics, and another truck carrying a container
with Cross River State regsitration number AA
980 DUK, and a white trailer which was also
damaged.
The accident happened when the Bizler Logistics
trailer broke down close to Mile 12 overhead
bridge inward Ikorodu, before the truck carrying
fish feeds rammed into the stationary trailer,
causing severe injuries to the driver and his
assistant.
The two, according to the eyewitness, were taken
to an undisclosed hospital in Ikorodu.
"There was a bonfire to alert oncoming motorists
about the broken down truck but as at the time
the truck carrying a container got there, the fire
had extinguished, leading to poor visibility," the
witness said.
He also added that there was a third truck which
crashed into the other two and was towed away
early in the morning by officials of Lagos State
Traffic Management Authority(LASTMA).
A LASTMA official who spoke under anonymity
confirmed that the accident involved three trucks.
"Two have been moved, leaving the one carrying
a container because it was the most damaged of
the trailers," he said.

Man Convicted for Stealing Church Toilet Door in Abuja

A 20-year old Awwalu Ali has
been sentenced to 90 days
imprisonment for stealing a toilet
door at the Calvary Faith Baptist
Church, Life Camp, Abuja. The verdict has been
read at Abuja Magistrates' Court on August 28,
2013, Wednesday.
Mr. Abdullahi Illela, the Magistrate, who convicted
Ali, said that it would serve as a deterrent to
others.
The Magistrate, however, gave the convict an
option to pay a fine of N2,500.
Simon Emmanuel, the Prosecutor, previously told
the court that one Adebiyi Laniyan of the Calvary
Baptist Church reported the crime at the Life
Camp Police Station on August 24.
Emmanuel said that the convict broke into the
church compound and removed the door to the
toilet, but was arrested before he could escape
with it.
Awwalu Ali of Dape village, pleaded guilty to the
charge and urged the court to pardon him.
"I am a family man with a wife and two children;
they will starve to death if I go to jail, please,
have mercy on me, my Lord," he said.

Genevieve Nnaji Becomes Judge on Miss Earth Beauty Pageant

Actress Genevieve Nnaji will become a guest
judge at the 2013 Miss Earth Nigeria.
The Nollywood star was recently announced
alongside other international stars such as
Austrian-born actor and former model, Boris
Kodjoe , Amber Rose, Karly Redd and Kelechi
Amadi Obi.
According to NET, Director of the Nigerian arm
of Miss Earth International, Ibinabo
Fiberesima said: "The year's edition would be
different because we are currently in talks with
top dignitaries who are passionate about the
environment and the earth at large."
Director Fiberesima, a former beauty queen
and current President of the Actors' Guild of
Nigeria, AGN, has been co-ordinating the
pageant for about a decade now.
Nollywood actress, Ufuoma Ejenobor is a
product of the pageant, as she had competed
and won the crown in 2004 before delving into
the movie industry.
The eventual winner will represent Nigeria at
the World Miss Earth Pageant in the United
States later in the year.
