You Can’t Cook – Angry Fans Tell Ini Edo After Posting Kitchen Photo

Maybe if Ini Edo had known that posting a
picture of her in the kitchen cooking what
looks like spaghetti would bring her
insults, she would not have released
the photograph online.
Probably by her calculations, she
thought the picture would go viral
just like that of Keri Hilson's 'fufu'
delicacy picture in the kitchen.
But rather than getting
commendations, angry fans used the
opportunity to vent their angers on
the sultry actress.

"Mtchewwww! So disgusting! What
kind of yama-yama food is dis? So
this is what u eat everyday & u re
proud to show it off. See how messy d

"Goshhh, see dirt

fan also wrote. "heiii,

Some others went on to vent their
angers on the beautiful actress. Some
of their comments are presented
below;

"what type of food is this? u know
how to dress well and look good but u
don't know how to cook good food
and clean ur kitchen well while
cooking,"

"I want to vomit oooooo. Ini pls as

A 45-year-old truck driver, Rafiu Gidado, on
Friday appeared before an Apapa Chief
Magistrates' Court in Lagos over an alleged theft
of goods valued at N7.4 million.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Soji Ojaokomo, told the

Port, Lagos.
"The accused and his accomplices diverted to an
unknown destination, five truck loads of `tin
plates', property of Mr Mukaila Akinwale of No. 4,
Adebugori St., Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos,"
Ojaokomo said.
He said that the offences breached the provisions
of Sections 285 and 409 of Criminal Code, Laws of
Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285 of the Criminal Code stipulates three
years imprisonment for stealing.
However, Gidado, who resides at Olodi-Apapa area
of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja,
granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000
with two sureties in like sum.
She directed that the sureties must show evidence
of tax payment to the Lagos State Government,
and that their addresses should also be verified by
the prosecutor.
Adelaja adjourned the case till May 20, for further
hearing.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other
related Offences Commission and the National
University Commission on Friday arrested the
proprietor of Richmond Open University, Enugu,
"Professor" Mazi Chris Okoro for allegedly
operating an illegal institution.
Also arrested were the son of the university's
proprietor and four other staff of the institution.
The ICPC officials also interrogated a Reverend
Sister in-charge of the Luminary International
Centre for Health and Alternative Medicine which
had metamorphosed into Society for Energy

Items recovered from them included a large
quantity of West African Examination Council and
diploma certificates, doctorates, masters and
bachelors' degrees as well as honorary doctorate

It was learnt that Okoro who claimed that he
bagged his professorship by "convention" instead
of merit, said he could not remember the total
number of his graduates in each academic session.
When asked to name his the vice-chancellor as
well as members the senate committee of the
institution, he said he could not recollect the
names of any of the principal officers.
Okoro reportedly said, "I do not have any
registration with NUC because I opened this

university has been operating since 2005 when a
court gave judgement in my favour."

Woman seeks divorce for lack of sexual satisfaction by husband.

A former airline cashier, Mrs Grace Oguche,
pleaded with an Agege Grade 'A' Customary
Court, Lagos to dissolve her seven-year old
marriage to her husband, Mr Maxwell Madu,
over his alleged poor performance in bed and
being unemployed.
"Ever since we got married, I hardly enjoyed sex
with my husband", she said in her testimony in
chief. My husband does not perform well on bed.
It was God's grace that we had the only child of
the union. My husband maltreats me, calls me a
prostitute".
She added that her husband failed in his
responsibilities and she was the one taking care
of the house, yet he never appreciated her.
"I want the court to dissolve the marriage
because he is unable to satisfy me in bed and
not responsible at home."
Meanwhile, Madu denied the allegations and
said, "I agreed with her bid to dissolve the
union. Because of my state of unemployment,
my wife went to another man's house for sex.
"My wife is never satisfied with sex, rather she
complains so that she could get it somewhere
else. I love my wife, but I do not understand why
her attitude changed towards me. My wife
comes home late, flirts around with different
men and ,at times, she does not come home.
"So, I want the dissolution of the marriage
because my wife gets sexual satisfaction
outside". Court president, Mr Emmanuel
Shokunle, told the couple to maintain the peace
and adjourned the case to May 20 for further
hearing.

‘Over 20 lecturers, relations kidnapped in Delta varsity’

Chairman, Academic Staff Union of
Universities, ASUU, Delta State University,
DELSU, Abraka branch, Dr. Emmanuel Mordi, at
the weekend, said at least 20 lecturers, their
spouses and relations, had been kidnapped in the
last two years by gunmen.
He stated this in Abraka while briefing the
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr.
Ikechukwu Aduba, who visited the university,
just as the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eric Arubayi,
confirmed that the university and Abraka
community were under siege.
Aduba, however, explained the role police were
playing to stem crime in the state, especially in
the university community, and pleaded for
support in passing useful information to the
police.
Mordi, worried by the manner kidnappers had
zeroed-in on lecturers, feared they might destroy
the academic environment.
He made particular reference to a lecturers in
science education, Dr. (Mrs) Mercy Mokobia,
kidnapped, on April 9, at about 1.00a.m. in her
bedroom and has not been found till date, as well
as Dr. Ugochukwu Uzuegbe, abducted, on May 9,
in Edo State, but regained freedom after payment
of ransom.
His words, "It is unfortunate and very
frightening that it has become our lot in recent
years to be saddled with the burden of combating
kidnapping and related nefarious acts which
have posed danger to the security of lives and
property of our members".
He regretted that since 2011, ASUU members
had been in constant danger of losing their lives
to kidnappers and armed bandits.
Aduba took time to explain the measures police
had taken to secure the academic community
and how it traced the kidnappers of Mokobia to
Ozoro, where one of the suspected kidnappers
was shot dead and three of the female members
arrested with part of the ransom collected by the
gang.
He said the police were doing everything to
locate the lecturer while detectives were trailing
the two fleeing suspects.
The police boss, however, vowed to crush
kidnappers and warmed that any building owned
by kidnappers or used to hold victims hostage
would be demolished.

Lorry crushes FRSC official in Imo

A female official (names withheld) of Imo State
Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps,
FRSC, was, at the weekend, crushed by a tipper
lorry, just as Governor Rochas Okorocha
expressed deep shock over the tragedy that befell
Umudagu, Ihitte Isi Mbieri community in
Mbaitoli local council area, on Thursday night.
The Mbieri tragedy followed a torrential rain that
was accompanied by thunder, lightening and a
ferocious windstorm, which pulled down a huge
tree known as Osisi Ukwu Uko and claimed lives.
Okorocha described the incident as "a very sad
natural disaster" and wondered why some elders
in the community resisted previous efforts made
by some people to cut down the tree before it
claimed scores of precious lives. "This is a very
sad natural disaster. I wonder why some elders
in the community resisted earlier moves by some
people to cut down the tree before it claimed
lives and brought untold anguish to many
families", the governor said.
He appealed to people to resist the temptation of
dwelling on superstitious beliefs, especially as
such negates what he called "sound sense of
reasoning".
Okorocha directed other communities with
similar trees to cut them down immediately to
avoid a repeat of the sad incident. In the interim,
the governor directed the Mayor of Owerri, Dr.
Kachi Nwoga, to make available to his office
information in respect of the victims of the
disaster. "Government has plans to give succour
to the immediate families that lost their loved
ones in the unfortunate disaster", he said.
Meanwhile, Okorocha has visited the scene of
the disaster and directed relevant government
agencies to continue the rescue operation, as
well as clear the debris.
The FRSC official who was crushed by the tipper
lorry with registration number AE 285 ABN, on
Friday, was said to be trying to cross the ever
busy Owerri-Umuahia federal highway. The
incident occurred at the roundabout close to Imo
State headquarters of the FRSC Sector
Command, Egbu.
Shocked FRSC personnel declined to speak to
Sunday Vanguard on the death and referred our
correspondent to the Sector Commander, who
was said to be unavailable.

24-hour curfew begins today in Maiduguri

The Nigerian military has this afternoon
declared a 24-hour curfew Saturday in
Maiduguri, seen as the "spiritual home" of
violent sect, Boko Haram.
According to the Associated Press, "A statement
Saturday on behalf of Lt. Col. Sagir Musa
named 11 areas of Maiduguri where people
must remain inside their homes until further
notice. Musa said it was part of the military's
push since President Goodluck Jonathan issued
an emergency decree Tuesday allowing soldiers
to arrest people at will and take over buildings
suspected to house extremists in Adamawa,
Borno and Yobe states."
Soldiers arrested some 65 suspected extremists
who were "attempting to infiltrate Maiduguri"
after military strikes on camps in a nearby
forest reserve, military spokesman Brig. Gen.
Chris Olukolade said in a statement Saturday.
Olukolade said soldiers killed another 10
suspected extremists in Maiduguri's Gamboru
neighborhood, one of the areas now under
curfew.
There was no independent confirmation of the
arrests nor the killings. An Associated Press
journalist in Maiduguri saw roadblocks manned
by soldiers in the city, as well as trucks lined up
outside the city, apparently blocked by the
military from entering.
Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, once was
home to the main mosque of Boko Haram.
Nigeria's Islamic extremist insurgency grew out
of a 2009 riot led by Boko Haram members in
Maiduguri that ended in a military and police
crackdown that killed some 700 people. The
group's leader died in police custody in an
apparent summary execution, fueling dissent
that broke into the open in 2010 with the
targeted killings of government officials,
security agents and religious leaders who spoke
out against the sect. The killings gradually
morphed into the large-scale extremist network
that is plaguing Nigeria today.
Soldiers backed by jet fighters and military
helicopters have flooded into the northeast
since Jonathan's order Tuesday. On Thursday,
soldiers attacked suspected camps sheltering
insurgents in a forest reserve south of
Maiduguri. At least 21 suspected extremists
died in the attack, an official told the AP on
Friday. The military said it destroyed the
extremists' equipment and gasoline supplies.
On Saturday, Olukolade asked the public to
inform authorities if they saw anyone
attempting to gather large quantities of
gasoline.
"Some of the fleeing insurgents from various
camps have been noted to be in search of fuel,"
the brigadier general said.
This new military campaign comes on top of a
previous massive deployment of soldiers and
police to the region. That deployment failed to
stop violence by Islamic extremists, who have
killed more than 1,600 people since 2010,
according to an AP count. It also has seen
soldiers arrest, torture and even kill civilians.

Nigerian aviation workers cancel planned strike

Staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management
Agency (NAMA) have suspended their
industrial action slated to start on Monday to
press home their demand for additional welfare
package.
The workers decided to suspend the planned
strike after a meeting between the management
and union leaders.
Supo Atobatele, the General Manager, Public
Affairs of NAMA, disclosed this in a statement
he issued in Lagos after the meeting which
ended late on Friday.
"The meeting is however expected to continue
on Monday to further deliberate on issues at
stake after the parties agreed that dialogue
remains the best way of resolving industrial
crisis,'' he said.
Mr. Atobatele said the meeting was attended by
representatives of the National Union of Air
Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport
Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, and
Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations,
Civil Service Technical and Recreational
Services Employees.
Abdulkareem Motajo, who led the team from
NUATE, was quoted as saying during the two-
hour deliberation, that the union leaders were
not interested in creating problem for the
management.
"The ultimatum earlier issued was to send a
friendly warning that there were issues yet to be
resolved," he said.
NAMA's Director of Human Resources, Uwem
Akangson, who represented Nnamdi Udoh, the
agency's managing director, said the meeting
was necessary due to communication gap
between the management and unions.
"This had made it difficult to appreciate the
extent of achievement on the implementation
of the new salary package for the workers,'' he
said.

exposed when a friend of the girl saw a letter
written by the principal given to the girl to
deliver to a doctor who will help them to abort
the pregnancy.

J Martins, Basketmouth Hit Studio For Collabo

Shortly after the success of his Good Life track, J
Martins has returned to the studio to do what he
knows best, make music. This time, he has dragged
laughter merchant, Basketmouth; Jos rapper, MI,
and others along. Although Saturday Beats does
not know Basketmouth's role in the collabo, the
buzz is that the song would be a J Martins classic.
The singer says, "I'm grateful to God that Good
Life came starting the year on a good note, that's
pretty much cool. I'm grateful to my fans for
showing me love and support. First of all, Good
Life was not a Nigerian song, if you really notice
what we know Nigerian songs to be. But my fans
also embraced it and gave their support as they've
always done. But we have to return to the studio to
work. For all my Francophone friends, I'm
delighted to announce to them that, by popular
demand, there's a song coming from me with DJ
Arafat which is called, Touchin Body, a highly
comic song.
"There's another song from my last album which is
called, Nkoli. Many people showed a lot of interest
in the song when it was dropped. The clamour for
the video became intense now, there's a remix of
the song. But we'll be releasing the audio first. My
latest works is a mid tempo hip hop number,
Touchin Body relatively a club banger and Nkoli
remix, a love song featuring MI, Phyno and
Basketmouth."

Nigeria: Active Telephone Lines Hit 116mil

Nigeria had 450,000 active line as at 2001, the NCC said.
The Nigerian Communications Commission
(NCC) on Friday said active telephone lines in
the country had increased from 450,000 to 116
million from 1960 to 2013.
Tony Ojobo, Director, Public Affairs of the
Commission, told the News Agency of Nigeria in
Abuja that the lines were mostly of the Global
System Mobile Communication (GSM) stock.
He said that the commission recorded 450,000
connected lines from 1960 to 2001 for a
population of about 100 million and recorded
116 million connected lines from 2001 to 2013.
Mr. Ojobo said that the country had suffered
from monopoly in telecommunication, adding
that the situation was driven by profit objectives
because there was no competition. He said the
increase recorded in the connected lines is
because the sector is currently opened up to
competition with the licensing of the digital
service providers.
Speaking on the ongoing competition among the
telecom providers through advertisements, Mr.
Ojobo said the launch of Mobile Number
Portability (MNP) had increased the
competition. He noted that the essence of
competition was to provide opportunity for
choice, better tariff plans as well as to provide
better services and value for money.
"Mobile number portability has deepened
competition. I don't know what makes
competition unhealthy.
"Now every network is fighting for the market
for mobile communication in Nigeria; so, what
you see playing out now is that struggle for
dominance in the market.
"Who is the best network, who has better tariff
plan, better package and better consumer
service? Competition might not be friendly but
could be healthy,'' Mr. Ojobo said.
He said that it had got to the commission that
some people were raising issues of ethics as
regard to adverts ran by network providers. He
said that all issues related to advertisement
should be left for the Advertising Practitioners of
Nigeria to handle.
"What NCC is concerned with is to ensure that
consumers have value for their money. If what is
happening is going to give value to the
consumers, then fine," he said.
Mr. Ojobo advised people to look beyond the
advertisement and focus on the value MNP
would bring saying MNP was beginning to do
something new in the advertisement market. He
said that number portability was strengthening
the advertisement companies and also making
them to be more creative and innovative.
He said it was also making the models being
used for the advertisement to be better-
appreciated and get better bargain in terms of
how much they were being paid.
"I believe that advert people are not complaining
about it, I think it may be innovational creativity.
I can't speak for the parties involved but I
believe that these companies would have looked
at the rules and regulations to see whether they
were doing anything unethical.
"They must have done their home work but what
this is showing is that the telecommunication
market is matured, developing as well as the
advertising companies," he said.
Mr. Ojobo said that had shown that
telecommunication services were providing a lot
of revenue for advertising companies and
additional value to the Nigerian models. He said
that MNP would make the networks more
respectful and responsible to their subscribers,
thereby making the consumer a king.

Failing College Student Fakes Kidnapping To Avoid Facing Parents

A college student in suburban Atlanta is accused
of faking his own kidnapping to avoid telling his
parents he was failing a class.
John's Creek city spokesman Doug Nurse says
19-year-old Aftab Aslam bought a cellphone and
texted his parents a story about being kidnapped
April 27. Nurse says Aslam camped for about a
week in an undeveloped area in Forsyth County,
but the weather turned cold and rainy and he
went home.
Nurse says Aslam left home because he didn't
want to tell his parents he was failing an English
class at Georgia Gwinnett College.
Aslam is charged with making a false report,
false statements, tampering with evidence and
terroristic threats. It's unclear if he has an
attorney. He was being held without bail Friday.

Why D’Prince Parted Ways With Teebillz

Mavin artiste, D'Prince has parted ways
with his manager, Teebillz, who is also
Tiwa Savage's manager and fiance.
The two who were in the UK about two
weeks ago to shoot two videos for Tiwa, reportedly
ended their business relationship as soon as they
returned from the UK.
D'Prince made the announcement via Twitter a few
days ago, noting that he is now being managed by
Sunday Are who doubles as singer Omawumi's
manager.
Reports claim that D'prince parted ways with
Teebillz because "Teebillz didn't really have time to
commit to managing him. He wants to concentrate
on the business management of his label and leave
artiste management alone for now. He's busy with
too many projects and they decided D'Prince should
move to Sunday Are"

Lagos Employs 70 Women As Truck Drivers.

The Lagos State Government on Friday said
it had just employed 70 women as truck
drivers, as part of efforts to empower women
in the state.
The Deputy Gov., Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire,
announced this at a news conference in Ikeja
organised to mark Gov. Babatunde Fashola`s sixth
year in office.
She said that the women had been trained on
driving large vehicles before they were deployed to
the Lagos State Waste Management Authority
(LAWMA) as waste truck drivers.
"We are also considering training and empowering
women as Taxi drivers. We are currently examining
some security risks that these women might face
driving taxis.
"But we hope to partner with some hotels in the
state on how we can attach some of these female
taxi drivers to them, so that we can track who they
are dropping off, in case there is a problem," she
said.
Orelope-Adefulire, who oversees the Ministry of
Women Empowerment, stressed that gender
equality and women empowerment were top on the
agenda of the Fashola administration.
She said the government had established a number
of skills acquisition centres across the state, saying
that thousands of women had acquired trade skills
at such centres, to set up their businesses.
The deputy governor added that women
entrepreneurs who were in need of tools and
equipment for their trades had also been assisted
by the government with such needs.
She said the government, through the ministry, had
facilitated micro-credits for small-scale business
women, to assist them grow their businesses.
Orelope-Adefulire said the government was making
steady progress at attaining the 35 per cent
Affirmative Action with the appointment of more
women into top positions in the state.
"Though we are yet to attain 35 per cent Afirmative
Action, we are aggressively working towards
it.Today. we have more and more women occupying
top positions in government.
"68 judges, 92 magistrates and 52 Permanent
Secretaries is a indeed progress. We are still
working harder and we will surely surpass the 35
per cent target at the end of the day," she said.
The deputy governor, however, decried the growing
cases of domestic violence in the state, saying that
the government was taking appropriate steps to
control the trend.

I Collected N4.2m From Two Women For ‘miracle babies’ – Midwife

The search for the fruit of the womb has
driven many women to take extreme steps.
When women are unable to conceive and bear
children, the huge psychological toll makes them
fall prey to fraudulent people and patrons of 'baby
factories'.
Desope Cecilia, 61, and Joy Ibe, 43, were
among victims of a midwife, Oby George,
who promised them 'miracle' twins and
triplets respectively.
While the midwife was being paraded before
journalists at the Lagos State Police Command,
Ikeja, on Friday, the victims told their stories, with
faces covered for security reasons.
Cecilia said she had not been able to give her 78-
year-old husband a child since they got married.
She stated, "A lady who knew I had tried to
conceive without success for a long time, told me
about the midwife (George). The lady gave me the
phone number of the woman and I learnt her clinic
is in Port Harcourt.
"When I got there in March 2012, she explained to
me that she would be able to treat me with herbs
and I would get pregnant. I was told to pay N1.5m,
which I paid to her.
"She gave me some herbs to take back to Lagos with
me and take for nine months. I took the herbs
religiously. My tummy began to swell, and my feet
too. Those were the only signs I had that made me
think I was pregnant."
Cecilia explained that George forbade her from
going for any form of ante-natal session or scan.
So, within the nine-month period that her tummy
protruded like that of a pregnant woman, she
visited no hospital.
"The midwife told me not to go for any scan or
ante-natal care. She told me that if I did, they would
not see anything because what I was carrying was a
'miracle' pregnancy," she said.
Asked if she ever saw any sign associated like
lactation during the period, Cecillia said she never
knew it was a fake pregnancy.
"I thought it was normal. Since my belly was
growing bigger and my feet swell up, I thought I
was indeed pregnant," she said.
In her ninth month, Cecilia embarked on her
delivery journey to the house used by George as
clinic for her 'miracle deliveries' in Omiagbo, Port
Harcourt, Rivers State.
When she arrived the house, the midwife prepared
her for delivery with another round of concoctions.
"She also gave me a strange seed. I don't know what
it is called. When I chewed the seeds, I had to go to
the toilet for bowel movement. She also gave me a
drug that made me very tired.
"I was laid on a bed after that. The midwife asked
me to start pushing. I began to push really hard. I
was half-conscious. Suddenly, I heard the cry of a
baby, then another."
Cecilia said she left George's clinic, thinking she
had indeed been blessed with 'miracle twins'.
Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State
Command, Ngozi Braide, told journalists that on
April 16, 2013, Cecilia took the twins for
immunisation at the Amuwo Odofin Health Centre,
Lagos.
"But the medical officials at the centre were
suspicious that Cecilia was not the biological
mother of the twins. They then alerted the Area A
Police Command. During investigation, she told the
police that they were 'miracle babies'.
"Our men got the address of the midwife and went
to Port Harcourt, where she was arrested.
Investigation still continues to ensure we
apprehend other members of her cartel. The twins
are currently with the SOS Children's Village,
Isolo," Braide said.
The second victim (Ibe) was found in George's
house when the police got there.
In Ibe's case, she wanted triplets. For that, she had
to pay N2.7m to George for the babies.
Like Cecilia, Ibe was referred to George by a friend.
She contacted the midwife few months after Cecilia
did.
"After I went to Port Harcourt to meet the midwife,
I paid the N2.7m and I was given some herbs which
I drank as concoction regularly.
"My belly began to grow and my feet became
swollen too. The midwife told me not to go to the
hospital for scan or any ante-natal. I went to Port
Harcourt to ask when I would be due for delivery.
"She told me I was not due yet. Since it was too late
to go back to Lagos, I slept over at her house. It was
when I was there that police came to arrest her."
No one could have doubted that both Ibe and
Cecilia were pregnant as both women appeared
with swollen tummies and feet.
George said her business was "helping women who
want to get pregnant."
She told journalists, "I am 50 years old. I have been
doing this business for over a year. In the case of
the other woman (Cecilia), I was not the one who
provided the babies.
"Helen Okoro, who introduced her to me, was the
one who brought the twins and we made it look like
she was the one who delivered them. It is true I
collected N1.5m from her and N2.7m from the other
woman.
"The herb I give them was to induce the swollen
tummies and feet. Helen Okoro has run away now."
But George dodged questions as she was being
interviewed by journalists.
When asked about the name of the herbs and seeds
she gave to her customers, she replied, "I don't
know."
Asked how many of such women she had ever
'delivered', she answered, "I cannot remember."
Curiously, Cecilia said she was bleeding like a
freshly delivered mother during her 'delivery'.
George provided a frightening insight into how this
was made possible.
"When we asked her to push, we used a blade to cut
part of her private part, so that she would bleed,"
she said.
George denied knowledge of where the babies given
to Cecilia came from. She said Okoro was
responsible for that part of the deal.
This case is coming on the heels of the recent
discovery of some baby factories in Abia and Enugu
recently.
The police have yet to confirm if the babies
involved in this case were bought from one of such
factories.

Canadian Company Writes FG Over Amaechi’s Jet – Investigation.

The Canadian company which arranged how
the Rivers State Government's controversial
Bombardier Global 6000 private jet was
ferried into Nigeria last year has written to
the Federal Government, explaining how the
jet got to the country through Senegal,
among other details.

The company, ACASS Canada Limited,
stated how it assisted the Rivers State
Government to take the delivery and
possession of the aircraft from the manufacturer,
Bombardier of Canada.
The letter dated May 1, 2013 and signed by ACASS's
Executive Vice-President, Mr. David Dorrance, was
directed to the Federal Government through the
Acting Director-General of the Nigerian Civil
Aviation Authority, Mr. Joyce Nkemlokam.
The company, however, said its support service
contract with the aircraft culminated in the delivery
and turnover of possession of the Canadian-made
jet to the Government of Rivers State on September
28, 2012, in the United States of America.
The letter reads in part, "ACASS Canada Ltd is a
Canadian, incorporated company, working in the
business aviation industry. We offer our expertise
to clients around the world, including assisting new
aircraft owners with the entry into service of their
new aircraft and sometimes, providing temporary
crew and logistics support of such aircraft
operations by their owners."
"It has come to our attention that you are inquiring
about the operations of a certain Bombardier
Global Vision Aircraft, registration number
N565RS, concerning its activities in Nigeria.
"We assisted the Government of Rivers State of
Nigeria with taking delivery and possession of their
new aircraft. During these preparations, we
requested, on behalf of our client, assistance for the
Nigerian importation of the aircraft through
Caverton Helicopters which was never
consummated or received.
"Our entry into service support culminated in the
delivery and turnover of possession of the aircraft
to the Government of Rivers State on September
28, 2012, in the USA with the exception of crew
support and advisory support."

35 Killed In Raid On Boko Haram Hideout

Security troops yesterday used jets and attack
helicopters to bombard Boko Haram Islamic
camps in Sambisa Game Reserve, in Borno State,
which is one of their strongholds killing a
number of the insurgents. The Sambisa Camps
are believed to be harbouring their training and
enrolment base.
Over 3,600 military personnel comprising the
Army, Navy, Police, the Department of State
Security, DSS and other security agencies and
men of Counter Terrorists Squad, CTS, are said
to be involved in the campaign to rout the Boko
Haram insurgents from their hideouts in the
affected states.
Heavy weapons belonging to the insurgents
including anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns were
destroyed by the military fighter jets even as the
Nigerian Army's artillery long range surface to
air guns were also being used.
Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-
General Chris Olukolade told Reuters that
several camps had been attacked, including the
game reserve in Borno state, but did not give
further details.
"A number of insurgents have been killed. There
are a lot of casualties. It is not just Sambisa,
every camp is under attack. But we have not
done the mopping up operations on the ground
to determine the numbers killed," Olukolade
said, adding that, "there have been air strikes
since Wednesday, and were continuing
yesterday. I cannot tell you the actual number of
terrorists killed, but I am optimistic we are
making headway, and at the end of the
operation, we will be commended."
An unconfirmed report however, said that one of
the air strike jets was shot by the insurgents,
"but the pilots manoeuvred it successfully and
landed safely at the base."
This military offensive continued just as the
Army said yesterday that its personnel in Daura,
Katsina State foiled an attempt by the Boko
Haram sect to overrun the ancient town by
attacking and bombing government and public
institutions like police stations and banks,
causing mayhem and disrupting the peace of the
residents of the area.
Borno and Yobe states and their environs have
remained for two days without communication
as all the GSM networks were cut off to enable
the military accomplish their mission without
hitches.
No fewer than 35 of the insurgents had so far
been killed during the air strikes on their
training camps.
Military Spokesman, Olukolade confirmed that
jets and helicopter gunships had been used to
attack several camps.
Nigerian forces are trying to regain territory
controlled by increasingly well-armed Boko
Haram Islamist insurgents in their north-
eastern stronghold states of Borno, Yobe and
Adamawa, which were put under a state of
emergency by President Goodluck Jonathan on
Tuesday.
At Gamboru, Ngala and Marte towns on the
border with Cameroon in northern Borno,
residents said that heavily armed troops and
tanks arrived on Wednesday, sealing off
previously unmanned border posts.
Some sources said that many innocent people,
particularly those residing in the remote areas
along were not aware of the operations. The
Defence Headquarters in an update on the battle
to dislodge Boko Haram from the Northern
borders of the country, confirmed earlier reports
that it destroyed some terrorists camps in
Northern and Central Borno.

Three, Including A Teenager Electrocuted In Makurdi

Three persons, including a teenager have been reportedly electrocuted in parts of Makurdi town after they allegedly tampered with Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, power transmission lines.

According to an eyewitness, one of the victims
was a secondary school teacher who in an
attempt to change the source of electricity to his
residence got himself entangled in one of the
power lines.
"He was burnt and electrocuted instantly and
nobody could get to him nor attempt to rescue
him from the live cables because it would have
been suicidal," he said.
Senior Special Assistant to Benue State
Governor on Public Utilities, Mr. Gadaffi
Asemanya who regretted the death of the victims
also confirmed the incident wondered why they
infringed on the property of PHCN without due
authorization.
"It is actually unfortunate that the three persons
lost their lives but these unfortunate incidents
should serve as warning to all persons who have
made it a habit to always tamper with PHCN
facilities because it is the common practice in
most places today.
"You will recall that just few weeks ago, a 16-
year-old boy was almost roasted by PHCN high
tension cables when he attempted to vandalise
the lines. It took my personal intervention with
the assistance of PHCN staff and security
personnel to rescue him from where he was
trapped.
"We cannot continue in our lawlessness; the
government of the day is doing its best to ensure
that it improves our living condition but
unfortunately some persons have taken it upon
themselves to frustrate these efforts of
government.
"How can anybody in his right senses take an
adventure on PHCN power lines? It is
unthinkable because its suicidal, but people are
doing it for reasons best known to them; and it is
rather unfortunate," Asemanya added.

Four Children Sold At N60,000 Rescued By Lagos Govt.

No fewer than four children sold by their parents
and guardians for a minimum of N60, 000, to
aid their financial needs, have been rescued by
the Lagos State Government in the last one year.
187 cases of child abuse and domestic violence
were reported and treated by the state
government in the year under review, the State
government said.
at the 2013 ministerial Press Briefing held in
Alausa,Ikeja, to commemorate the sixth year
anniversary of Governor BabatundeFashola's
administration, Deputy Governor of Lagos state,
Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who also
doubles as the Commissioner for Women Affairs
and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, said that the last
one was rescued by the government six months
ago, adding "the child was rescued where it was
sold by her grandmother for N 300, 000."
"The state government also rescued four
children sold for a minimum of N60, 000. The
last was rescued about six months ago but we
have also rescued the child who was sold for
about N300, 000. This child we rescued is nine
months old now. Those children are in our
homes and we have sent them back to school, to
continue their studies. When their parents are
ready, they will come forward to reclaim their
babies. I remember that I brought this issue to
the state government six months ago. The
woman who bought the child travelled to
America and we had to wait for her to return and
we collected the baby from her.
"Presently, we are investigating a woman now
who we suspected bought all the five children in
her custody".
She assured residents of the state that
government will never relent in ensuring that
issues relating to child care wouldn't be treated
with levity. She further disclosed that the state
government has concluded plans to establish a
special mother centre where young girls who
were forced into pregnancy can be taken care of
until they deliver their babies.
"Also we created a mini-clinic closer to the
centre because they may want to deliver their
babies at the midnight.
"After delivery, we will keep their babies for
about five years. These children will be living in
our motherless home. We believe that by then,
they must have been able to acquire funds to
cater for the children. Sometimes, this may be
the only child they will be able to give birth to,"
she emphasized, saying it will help curb issues of
sold babies that may occur in the state.
She also warned that the state government
would intensifying its enforcement of the Child
Right Law and other laws related to domestic
violence in the state. She noted that the state
government recently embark on investigation
and it discovered that some residents of the state
have become agents to child trafficking in the
state.
The deputy Governor warned that there wouldn't
be any hiding place for defiler and others
violating the state laws in the state."ON THE
CHILD ABUSE AND OTHER CASES On the
breakdown, she said.
Giving a breakdown of the statistics, Orelope-
Adefulire said "53 cases of child trafficking/
labour, s*xual abuse; 43, Child Custody, 33; child
neglect 13, sale baby 2, physical abuse 37 and
teenage pregnancy 1.

Army: 3 Soldiers, Several Gunmen Killed In Daura Attack

The Nigerian Army on Friday confirmed that
three soldiers were killed in an attack by
gunmen in Daura, Katsina State.
Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, General Officer
Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army,
who disclosed this to newsmen in Kaduna, said
several of the attackers were also killed.
He said that the army and other security
personnel had cordoned off three areas in the
city and were conducting a house-to-house
search "to fish out some of the wounded
gunmen who forced their way into peoples'
homes".
He also said that the army was coordinating with
security agencies in Niger Republic as "80 to 90
per cent of these gun men are not Nigerians".
Wahab said the gunmen had attacked four banks
and stole some money, adding that a vehicle
loaded with the stolen cash was recovered, in
addition to four AK-47 rifles.
He said that the operation to fish out the culprits
was ongoing, and advised residents of Daura and
the neighbouring local government areas of
Baure, Sandamu, Mashi, and Dutsi to cooperate
with security agents by reporting suspicious
movements around them.
"What happened this morning is similar to what
happened in Bama where the gunmen burnt
prison and police stations to divert attention," he
said.
Wahab appealed to journalists to support
security agencies in the fight against terror,
saying it was the collective responsibility of all
well-meaning Nigerians to work for the peace
and stability of the nation.
"Let us stop patronising criminality. Whether
they are terrorists or armed bandits, the truth is
that they are against the Nigerian state, and that
is the bottom line," he added.

Cell Phone Service Switched Off In Borno, Yobe, Parts Of Adamawa

As part of measures to make the declaration of a state of emergency in the crisis-ridden states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe effective, mobile phone service was turned off yesterday as the military began a major offensive against insurgents in those states.
According to some residents of the affected
states, services of all the GSM networks—Airtel, MTN, Glo and Etisalat were unavailable since early morning of Thursday.
Information Nigeria gathered that the whole of Yobe and Borno states were affected by the
decision while Mubi, Hong, Mahia, Michika and Ka'alha are said to be affected in Adamawa State.
Although there has been no official statement on why the cell phone services were switched off, it is widely believed that the action is a pre- emptive move against the terrorists who have used mobile phones to remotely detonate bombs in the past.

Uche Ogbodo reacts to Afrocandy's offer to star in her porn flick

Below is the statement she sent out this evening..

I, Uche Ogbodo, emphatically state that I am an actress and not a porn star. The fact that I was just experimenting and having fun with the 'Lady Gaga' red hair photo shoot is not an
excuse for the likes of AfroCandy to insult me.

If I ever decide to strip in a movie, trust me, it'd be worth it like Halle Berry did in Monster's Ball and Swordfish. Right now I am in talks with a reputable artiste management outfit to represent me and re-invent myself.

Uche Ogbodo.

Abusers Of National Flag to be Prosecuted

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) on
Thursday called for the prosecution of
Nigerians and corporate organisations that
hoisted tattered and fake national flag.
The Director General of NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri
made the appeal in a statement in Abuja.
He said prosecuting the offenders would promote,
encourage, respect and value the flag among
Nigerians.
He said the agency understood its role as the
custodian of the flag, adding that it would promote
respect for it to enhance patriotism among
Nigerians.
Omeri said Nigerians must do the right things to
engage in the process of change and
transformation, adding that change had to start
from workplaces, houses and the family.
"Nigerians are hardworking, peaceful and resilient
people. These are the values we should be
celebrating.''

Man, 27, Jailed 7 Years For Drug Trafficking

The Federal High Court 1, Jos, on Friday
sentenced a 27-year old man, Babale
Mohammed, to seven years imprisonment
for possessing Indian hemp and
psychotropic substances.
Mohammed was convicted for possessing 20
kilogrammes of Indian hemp and 30 grammes of
intoxicating drugs, LSD and Diazepam.
Delivering judgment on the case, the judge, Justice
Ambrose Allagoa, said the prosecution had done an
excellent job that assisted the court to arrive at its
decision.
Allagoa said the evidences tendered before the
court by the prosecution had convinced the court
beyond reasonable doubt that the convict
committed the offence.
"The confessional statement of the accused has also
assisted the court to convict the suspect.
The court has relied on the strength of the plea of
the accused to convict him," the judge said.
Earlier, the National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency (NDLEA) prosecutor, Mr Mike Kassa, told
the court that the accused was arrested on April 28
at about 3 a.m at Bakin Kogi area, Shendam Local
Government Area, Plateau.
Kassa said the accused was arrested while in
possessing of a bag containing 20 kilogrammes of
Indian hemp and some intoxicating drugs.
He said the convict illegally possessed the
substances without permission from any authority.
The prosecutor tendered a certificate of analysis of
the substances from a laboratory that confirmed
the substances to be illegal products.
Kassa also tendered the confessional statement of
the accused and the Ghana-must-go bag containing
the substances as an exhibit.
"My lord, since the accused had confessed to his
crime, I hereby urge the court to give him a
summary trial to serve as deterrent to others.
My lord, the accused has committed an offence
contrary to the NDLEA law as amended in 2004,"
the prosecutor said.
When the case came up for hearing, the accused
pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court
for leniency, saying that he had aged parents to look
after.
Allagoa warned him to desist from selling hard
drugs after his term, saying that the court would
not be lenient to him in future.

Jonathan Secures Release Of Nigerian Prisoners In Equatorial Guinea

President Goodluck Jonathan has secured
the release of 10 prisoners held by Equatorial
Guinea for various immigration offences, a
statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
said on Friday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this in a
statement.
It said the release of the prisoners was the outcome
of the two-day official visit by Mr. Jonathan to the
country between March 21 and 22.
"The host Minister of National Security disclosed
that such a gesture had never been officially
extended to any illegal immigrant in Equatorial
Guinea from any country.
"Due to the small size of the population of the
country, the government was out to keep the influx
of foreign nationals in the country at the
minimum," the statement said.
The statement said the Equatorial government
extended the gesture because of "the high esteem
and respect" held for Nigeria and Mr. Jonathan.
The government also approved the immediate
issuance of one-year resident permit to the freed
Nigerians and directed its ministry of national
security to work closely with the Nigerian embassy
in the country.

Finally!! Ex-commissioner’s Mother Regains Freedom

The 84- year-old mother of the former
Commissioner for Education in Ondo State,
Madam Funke Olatubora, who was abducted
last Sunday by some gunmen, has regained
her freedom.
It was gathered that the octogenarian was
released by her captors in the early hour
of yesterday at Owena River in Iyansan in Irele
local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the development, the police
spokesman, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said the kidnappers'
den was tracked with the high technology gadgets.
He said the kidnappers released the victim and
abandoned their hideout when they noticed that
security agents were after them.
Ogodo assured that security agents would still
arrest the kidnappers for prosecution despite the
fact that they had released their victim.
He, however, confirmed that no ransom was paid
for the freedom of the woman, adding that the
hoodlums released her when they perceived danger.
Madam Olatubora was, last Sunday morning,
kidnapped by about six gunmen at her Iyansan
country home in the coastal area of Irele Local
Government Area of Ondo State.
The abductors were said to have demanded N50
million ransom from the old woman' family to
secure her freedom.

EFCC Docks Man For N10m Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,
EFCC, Thursday, arraigned Amadi Nsirim before a
Federal High Court, Port Harcourt on a 2- count
charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining
money under false pretence.
The man "sold" a land that did not belong to him.
The commission said the man sold land that is not
his and got paid for it. When the charges were read
to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty.
One of the charges reads, "That you, Justice Amadi
Nsirim and one Humphrey Amadi, now at large, on
or about the 15th of September, 2011 at Port
Harcourt judicial division, with intent to defraud,
induced one Solomon Egbo to pay the sum of Ten
Million and Four Hundred and Forty Thousand
Naira (N10, 440, 000) under the false pretense of
selling to him a building and an adjourning plot of
land situated at No. 80 Igwurutu Road by
Rumuokwurusi Road, Port Harcourt under the
pretext that the said building and adjourning land
belong to you, Justice Amadi Nsirim and
Humphrey (now at large) respectively.
A representation you knew to be false and thereby
committed an offence contrary to section 1(1)(b)
and punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance
Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act,
2006."
The judge, U.N Agomoh, granted the accused bail in
the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum
who must reside within the jurisdiction of court.
The case was adjourned to June 1, 2013 for trial.

Rivers Aircraft Papers Forged –Minister

Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah,
on Thursday said the clearance of the
grounded aircraft operated by the Rivers
Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, was allegedly
forged.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Oduah
said this in a statement by her Special Assistant,
Media, Mr. Joe Obi, in Abuja.
She said there were three controversial issues
surrounding the Bombardier Global Express 5000/
Registration N565RS, allegedly owned by the Rivers
Government.
Oduah said, "The issues of operating with falsified
clearances dubiously collected in the name of
Caverton Helicopters, a USA-based company; and
why the aircraft was operated after the clearances
had expired.
"We want to state again that this particular aircraft
is foreign-registered in the name of Bank of Utah
Trustees, USA. This is the documentation available
to the ministry."
She added, "Till date, neither the Rivers
Government nor any other individual or corporate
organisation has presented contrary documentation
to debunk the fact that this aircraft is owned by the

Police Probe Bomb Threat Sent To Shoprite Owner.

The Lagos State Police Command, Thursday,
said it had begun investigation into threat by
some unknown person to blow up Shoprite
offices in the state.
Unknown person sent a text message informing
owner of Shoprite of his group's intention to blow
up all Shoprite shops in Nigeria.
Although the unknown sender did not state the
reason, but he disclosed that already, members of
his group had planted some explosives in some
packs of fruit juice at Shoprite Victoria Island
branch.
The text message caused panic as customers
reportedly fled the entire mall while motorists
deserted the route, with text messages sent to loved
ones around the vicinity to avoid the route.
It was even rumoured that there was a bomb
explosion around the area.
Part of the text message read: "It is true, we do not
deserve amnesty. You'll even be surprised how I got
your number. We came to Shoprite on a mission to
drop a bomb. That day, we sow bullet into Five
Alive packs. We are from Niger. Someone gave us
your number from Abuja. We will make sure we
destroy every Shoprite…"
But sources at the Lagos State Police Command
told Vanguard that investigation had begun to
ascertain the identity of the sender. Although
sources dismissed the text message as mere threat
but said the command would still go ahead with its
investigation.
