A Slovak street performer dressed in white
papal vestments has been detained and
fined by the police in Rome for bearing too
close a resemblance to the late John Paul II,
the police said on Friday.
"The problem was that he looked a lot like Karol
Wojtyla. He was detained for usurpation of title
which is a misdemeanour," a police spokeswoman
said..
"The cassock he was wearing has been
confiscated," she added.
The man has been released and will have to pay
between 154 and 929 euros ($200 and $1,200),
depending on a decision by a judge, the
spokeswoman said.
Another officer at the station where the 55-year-old
man was taken quipped: "If he had been dressed
like Tutankhamun nothing would have happened."
The performer has been working the main avenue
leading up to the Colosseum in his white skullcap
for weeks - alongside Roman centurion imitators
and other performers - but police said they acted
following an anonymous complaint.
A vendor selling miniature Colosseum souvenirs on
a spot overlooking the Roman Forum said he saw
the man being detained on Thursday.
"He was right here, near me. He was taken away
by two officers in civilian clothes who were
pretending to be tourists," he said.

Lagos Bans Tri-cycle Operators From Major Roads
Lagos State government Friday banned the
activities of Tri-cycle popularly called Keke
Napep from the major roads in the state,
saying, "it is meant to protect the lives and
property of the residents of the state."
The state government however vowed to
impound any disused and abandoned
vehicles across the state, explaining
"4,632 vehicles were currently abandoned on over
9,100 roads in theState.
Commissioner for transportation, Mr. Kayode
Opeifa disclosed this at the 2013 Ministerial Press
Briefing held in Alausa to mark the sixth
anniversary of Governor Babatunde Fashola's
administration.
Opeifa said that the state government had held
several meetings with the unions on the
development, adding "they have agreed to stay
away from these roads."
Some of the roads tri-cycles operation was
outlawed were: the entire Victoria Island,
Government Residential Area, GRA Ikeja and Ikoyi.
Also on Awolowo road and Awolowo way, Alausa
and entire major roads in Surulere Local
Government.
Opeifa warned that tri-cycling isn't a replacement
for motorcycle popularly called Okada in the state,
adding "it isn't a sustainable means of transport for
the state especially Lagos that is a megacity."
According to him, "I learnt that some Okada riders
have began to sell their motorcycle to by tricycle
but they can no longer operate on these major
roads again."
The commissioner explained that section 3 of the
2012 Lagos road traffic law also outlawed the
operation of the tri-cycle in the state.
It will be recalled that Fashola signed the road
traffic bill into law last year, aimed at improving
safety on the Lagos roads.
"After that law was gazetted, the state government
allowed tri-cycle to operate on some of these roads
because vehicles available in those roads weren't
enough to convey the passengers plying the road,"
he said.
Opeifa stated that today, the state has enough Bus
Rapid Transport, BRT and LAGBUS buses, taxis and
others are now available on these roads and the
tricycle wouldn't be needed.
ON ABANDONED BUSES
The commissioner said "They constitute threat
security of lives and property in the state."
According to him, "While we are proud to improve
on information of the removal of over 4,300
abandoned and disused vehicles from Lagos roads,
it is saddening that recent survey by the CDA/
CDC's under the supervision of the Ministry of Rural
Development have again in the last 3 month
identify another 4,632 vehicles abandoned on over
9,100 roads in Lagos State."
He added "These vehicles are veritable tools for
hoodlums, miscreants, armed robbers and other
forms of social vices. So also they pose health risk.
We will not relent on enforcement."
"To spare part dealers vehicle/Auto sales dealers
please be advised as vehicles illegally displayed on
road setback will be treated as abandoned/disused
vehicle," Opeifa said.
On this, the commissioner said "we have instructed
officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management
Authority, LASTMA and Vehicle Inspection Service,
VIS, to immediately begun to impound any
abandoned or disuse cars in the state."

The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, on Friday arraigned the
Company Secretary of E-Barclays Micro
Finance Bank Limited, Abuja, Oby Onwukeme
before the Federal High Court, Abuja on a
one-count charge of obstructing justice.
Mrs. Onwukeme was alleged to have willfully
declined to furnish the Commission with account
information of one of her customers, Paulinus
Enendu of Pamadas and Sons Limited who was
being investigated for obtaining money under false
pretence and issuance of dud cheque to the tune of
N4.2 million.
She had, despite repeated appeals and citing of
Section 38 (2) (a) of the EFCC Establishment Act
which relates to the crime of obstruction,
maintained that her client's lawyer wrote and
informed her not to disclose the information to the
Commission.
The charge reads; "that you Oby Onwukeme being
the Legal Adviser and Company Secretary of E-
Barclays Micro Finance Bank Limited on or about
the 21st day of January, 2013, at Abuja, within the
jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, did
willfully obstruct the officers of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission in the exercise of
their powers to seek and receive information on
Account Number 4010074168 belonging to
Pamamdas & Sons Limited, and thereby
committed an offence contrary to Section 38 (2)
(a) and punishable under Section 38 (2) (b) of the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(Establishment) Act 2004".
She, however, pleaded not guilty prompting the
prosecution counsel, Maryam Ahmed to ask for a
date for trial.
However, counsel to the accused person, C.O
Achilike presented an oral bail application which
was not opposed by the prosecution.
The judge, Adeniyi Adetokunbo, granted the
accused person bail on self recognition, but stated
that she must produce two passport photographs,
an ID card and an undertaking signed by the
Managing Director of E-Barclays Microfinance Bank,
Kingsley Onuorah, to produce her when needed by
the court.
The judge adjourned the case to July 8 and 9.

Family Of Four Killed In Auto Crash
At least four members of the same family
reportedly lost their lives in an auto crash in Akure,
the Ondo State capital Friday when officials of the
Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC allegedly
stopped a vehicle in the middle of the road
abruptly.
The action of the FRSC officials according to
eyewitness account resulted in three vehicles
ramming into one another along the ever busy
Ilesa-Owo expressway in Akure metropolis.
Some irate youths mobilized to the FRSC office
along the road and vandalized it.
Timely intervention of policemen from Ijapo Police
Station prevented the youths from razing down the
office.
Other officials of the Commission who were on
patrol reportedly took to their heels when they saw
the mob approaching them.
The officials of the commission were said to be on
patrol along the express road when the incident
occurred.
The eye witness Taiwo who is a motor dealer
at the Akure Auto mart which is adjacent to
the scene of the crash said that the FRSC
officials stopped the driver of vehicle in the
midst of the road and were checking its
particulars.
An oncoming trailer reportedly lost control and
rammed into the vehicle and compressed it.
A visit to the scene showed that a red Toyota
Corolla car marked Lagos BBG 247 AU was being
moved away from the major road.
In an interview the Head of Operations of the
Commission in the state Mr. Sunday Ajayi, said
none of the occupants of the affected vehicle died.
Ajayi denied that men of the Commission were
responsible for the crash adding that they were on
normal mobile court exercise when the incident
happened.
According to him " two of the injured persons were
recuperating at the Jojein Hospital in the Oke Ijebu
area of Akure while the two others were receiving
treatment at the General Hospital, Akure.
"The attention of our officers who were on mobile
court exercise was called to the accident and they
immediately rushed to the scene.
"However just as they were trying to rescue the
victims, some people mobilised to the scene and
started vandalising our vehicles.
"The mob stormed the scene thinking that we
caused the accident but the situation is calm now
because security men were invited to maintain
peace."

Nasarawa Killings: Enough Is Enough, Says IGP As He Vows To Fish Out Killers
Following the brutal killing of scores of
policemen in Nasarawa state on Wednesday by
members of an ethnic militia – Ombatse, the
Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed
Abubakar, has given Assistant Inspectors
General of Police (AIGs) in charge of the North
Central zone and the Nasarawa State
Commissioner of Police the marching orders to
arrest the persons behind the dastardly act.
In a statement signed by Deputy Force Public
Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, on Thursday,
Abubakar vowed to bring the perpetrators to
book in record time warning, "enough is
enough."
The statement reads: "We consider the attack
not just an attack on the Nigeria Police and its
officers and men but an attack on the collective
will of Nigerians to protect and preserve our
dear fatherland. This, we have vowed to put an
end to.
"This disturbing, condemnable and highly
distressing incident, coming closely after similar
ones in Bayelsa and Borno States, had thrown
up new and emerging threat in the delicate task
of policing our country.
"Consequently, the IGP has directed all its field
commanders and Special Units including
Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and
Commissioners of Police to harness all resources
available within their domain in ensuring that
this reign of terror and lawlessness is brought to
an end.
"The Nigeria Police Force working in conjunction
with all positive minded Nigerians, will do
everything within its powers to fish out and
bring to book all those involved in this and other
similar killings of law enforcement agents.
"We must put an end to this endless circle of
impunity. Enough is enough."

Rihanna Goes Brâless In Public Again
RIHANNA must have got ready in a rush if
these snaps are anything to go by – she
forgot to do up her shirt.
Well known for her raunchy outfits, the singer
bared her nâked chest by also going brâless as
she stepped out in New York on Wednesday.
She flashed her long slender pins by teaming her
sheer top with a thigh-skimming skater skirt and
núde stiletto heels.
The Bajan beauty left her hotel in the skimpy
outfit as she headed to dinner, stopping to chat
and pose for pictures with fans as she went.
Rihanna, 25, is embracing her new single status
since Chris Brown confessed that their
reconciled relationship is already over at the
weekend.
Chris has since been posting a series of
emotional messages online via Twitter – on
Tuesday he wrote:
"Sometimes loving someone is too much! So
loving from a distance will help everyone grow!
Be blessed. Live ya life!"
Rihanna will be heading to the UK next month to
perform a series of dates as part of her

There Is No Missing Dagrin Forever With Olamide.
When grassroots-to-limelight Yoruba rapper,
Dagrin, died in a road crash in 2010, the
lamentation that greeted his passage had hardly
died down when some other up-and-coming
singers started scheming to fill the vacuum
created. As is done when star artistes pass on,
they wanted to take advantage of the gap, with
some of them not minding becoming new
Dagrin.
But as it normally happens in such a
circumstance, all of them failed to realise their
dreams. The lesson they failed to learn is that,
no artiste can really replace another one. That is
why no one has been able to replace a Fela,
Tupac or Sikiru Ayinde Barrister in the real sense
of it. People may try to be opportunistic but it
will be extremely difficult to convince listeners
or the audience that the dead man has
resurrected.
Instead of aping the fallen hero, perhaps the
best thing to do is to hone one's talent and work
hard at one's style, especially if it is close to
that of the deceased. If it is done well, the
market will have no other option than to look in
one's direction. This seems to be how rave-of-
the-moment and weird Yoruba rapper, Olamide
has proved wiser than his peers who were trying
to ape Dagrin.
Also called Young Erikina, the artiste has
demonstrated much versatility in his songs, Eni
Duro and Bend down Low, to the extent that he
has broken into the league of the big players.
While it has been rumoured that a major
telecoms player has struck a N25m deal with
him, D'Banj's new strategic romance with
Olamide made him (Olamide) the subject on the
lips of many followers of the sector. Apart from
featuring him in a song, there are reports that
the younger act has been signed onto D'Banj's
label, a move that, many believe, is going to be
mutually rewarding.
Such a move would naturally make some guys
remember D'Banj's epic divorce with Don Jazzy,
and either sees the romance with the younger
act either as a survivalist ploy or a strategic
one. But the fact is it is a good story for Olamide
and a sign that he is doing well and may just be
one of the artistes to dictate the space in the
next few years.
Although there has not been any official
confirmation, D'banj's younger brother, Kay
Switch, welcomed Olamide to the family on
Twitter on Wednesday. Tweeting via his handle,
@kayswitch, Kay Switch stated, "Welcome to
the family, Baddo." Baddo is Olamide's nick
name. The music star is currently in Atlanta with
D'banj for a music performance.

Business Tycoon Arrested For Importing Fake Còndòms And Drugs Worth N106m
The National Agency for Food and Drug
Administration and Control has arrested a
trader, Olisaemeka Osefoh, for importation of
counterfeit medicines into Nigeria.The suspect
was also arrested with fake Rough Rider
còndòms. PUNCH Metro learnt that the
estimated street value of the goods was N106,
210, 000.Some of the drugs seized include,
Mycoten cream, Neurogesic ointment and
Skineal cream.
In his statement, the suspect said he was in
partnership with a cartel based in China, where
the products were sourced, before being shipped
to Nigeria.
The Director General of the agency, Dr. Paul
Orhii, while parading the suspect, said Osefoh
was arrested after a tip off.
He said the suspect had also given investigators
information on how the goods were illegally
cleared through Tincan Island Port, Lagos.
He said, "Operatives of NAFDAC's Investigation
and Enforcement Directorate raided a
warehouse located at Progressive Traders
Market known for the sales of jewellery and
cosmetic products.
"During the raid at Trade Fair Complex, Badagry
Expressway, Lagos, 158 cartons of Skineal
cream, 43 cartons of Funbact- A Cream, 719
cartons of Mycoten Cream, 131 cartons of
Neurogesic ointment, 56 cartons of Rough Rider
còndòms, 20 cartons of Iman Luxury Powder
and 205 cartons of Heal Balm were impounded."
Orhii said investigations revealed that drug
counterfeiters no longer specialised only in
foreign products but also in Nigerian-made
drugs.
He said most of the fake drugs being imported
were from China while India was second. He
however said the agency was having talks with
the Chinese Embassy on the issue.
He said, "I can say for sure that most of the fake
drugs we have in the country now are from
China while India comes second. The Indian
government is giving us full cooperation but we
are still having talks with China.
"NAFDAC is working with the Chinese Embassy
in Nigeria to track down the criminal company in
China that connived with the suspect to ship the
fake medicine into the country."
The NAFDAC boss seized the opportunity to
warn landlords who rent out their warehouses to
dealers in fake drugs.
He said henceforth, landlords would be arrested
and charged to court if their properties were
used for such illegal acts.
He advised consumers not to patronise traders
who sold drugs secretly in their shops but should
use proper pharmacies instead.
"Recent discovery has revealed that drug
counterfeiters now operate from markets that
deal in other commodities so as not to draw the
attention of law enforcement agencies to their
nefarious activities," he said.

Angry Policemen Destroy Lab Equipments, Shoot Doctor At UMTH
The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital
(UMTH) was temporarily thrown into a state of
panic Thursday, as policemen who brought
corpses of their colleagues killed in Bama to the
morgue, went berserk; shooting a medical
doctor and beating up some medical staff in the
process.
They were also alleged to have destroyed
medical laboratory equipmenst in the hospital.
A staff of the hospital who spoke on condition of
anonymity narrated how the incident happened
thus: "You know when there is no place to keep
corpses, sometimes they are kept on the floor
pending when a space is created for
refrigerating, but when they came this morning,
the mobile policemen went on the rampage and
started shooting. They beat up a professor and
other medical staff and also shot a medical
doctor before some miltary men in the hospital
brought the situation under control."
According to him, the action of the policemen
has made some doctors in the hospital to
resolve never to attend to policemen who are
brought in almost on a daily basis for treatment.
"The doctors are saying that they deserve some
respect from the uniform men because some of
the security operatives, particularly the police,
have this disrespecting attitude towards them.
"Some of these doctors and professor they beat
up would have been IGPs if they are in uniforms,
but somebody who is far down the ladder treats
them as nobody," he explained.
Attempts to get the Chief Medical Director,
Professor Tahir Othman, to speak on the
incident did not yield results.
Meanwhile, despite the Borno State Police
Commissioner, Yuguda Abdullahi's visit to UMTH
about four hours after the incident, Resident
Medical Doctors of the hospital have embarked
on an indefinite strike following the shooting of
their colleague by policemen.
Chairman of Resident Doctors of the institution,
Dr. Mohammed Yahaya said; "Our union has
from today embarked on an indefinite strike
following the attack on one of of our colleagues
and others by policemen."

Cyber- Criminal Steals $45 Million In Hours
A gang of cyber-criminals stole $45 million in a
matter of hours by hacking their way into a
database of prepaid debit cards and then
fanning out around the globe to drain cash
machines, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch called it "a
massive 21st-century bank heist" and compared
its size to the Lufthansa heist in the late 1970s
immortalized in the film "Goodfellas." Lynch
said the fraudsters had moved with astounding
speed to loot financial institutions around the
world.
A security analyst said it was the biggest ATM
fraud case she had heard of.
Seven people are under arrest in the U.S. in
connection with the case, which prosecutors
said involved thousands of thefts from ATMs
using bogus magnetic swipe cards. The accused
ringleader in the U.S. cell, Alberto Yusi Lajud-
Pena, was reportedly murdered in the
Dominican Republic late last month, prosecutors
said. More investigations are ongoing and other
arrests have been made in other countries, but
prosecutors did not have details.
An indictment unsealed Thursday accused the
eight of being members of the New York cell,
saying they withdrew $2.8 million in cash from
hacked accounts in less than a day. One of the
suspects was caught on multiple surveillance
cameras, his backpack increasingly loaded down
with cash. Others took photos of themselves
with giant wads of bills as they made their way
up and down Manhattan.
Lynch said the cells would take a cut of the
money then launder it through expensive
purchases or ship it wholesale to the global
ringleaders, but didn't say where they were
located. Prosecutors said the scheme involved
attacks on two banks, Rakbank, which is in the
United Arab Emirates, and the Bank of Muscat in
Oman. Hackers obtained debit card data,
eliminated withdrawal limits on the accounts,
created access codes and then sent a network
of operatives fanning out to rapidly withdraw
money in multiple cities, authorities said.
Lynch called it a "virtual criminal flash mob."
She said they could use any plastic card to
withdraw the cash – an old hotel key card or an
expired credit card – as long as they had the
account data and correct access codes.

UTME 2013: House Of Reps Summon JAMB Registrar Over Mass Failure
The Registrar of the Joint Admission and
Matriculation Examination (JAMB), Prof.
Dibu Ojerinde has been summoned by
the House of Representatives to explain the mass failure recorded by students who sat for the last Unified
Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
conducted by the body.
This development is coming on the heels of a
peaceful demonstration by students in Kano
state who protested the poor results as well as
the withholding of their results over thumb-print
verification.
However, explaining the rationale behind the
invitation, Chairman, House Committee on
Education, Aminu Suleiman (PDP, Kano)
said: "We heard that JAMB authorities had
formally explained some reasons for the mass
failure, this is not enough if the content of the
complaints of Nigerians is anything to go by.
"One of the complaints was that concerning the
usage of computer for the exam that most of
them have never had contact with computer
before or that they only learnt the theory
without the practical usage of computers.
"It can be recalled that the House passed a
resolution asking JAMB not to use computer for
the 2013 exams and they said they would make
nit optional; but there were still complaints by
Nigerians that some students filled the manual
or paper option only to find themselves being
asked to write the exams using computers".
Attempting to establish a relationship between
the students' mass failure and the introduction
of computers for the examinations, the
Chairman noted that most students, especially
those in the rural areas lacked pre-requisite
computer knowledge to have performed above
par.
"The committee have no option that to act
accordingly to work towards finding lasting
solutions to the perennial failures of Nigerian
students," he said.

Female Teacher Sleeps With 13-Year-Old Male Student After He Complained About His Man-hood
A health and s*xual education teacher is
accused of having séxual contact with a
13-year-old male student after he told her
there was something wrong with his
pénis.
Marlene Mints, 31, is now on administrative
leave from her position at Bessie Coleman
Middle School in Texas.
The investigation began in late April, when a
coach at the middle school was driving some
students home, and one of the students brought
up that he'd had séxual relations with Mints,
according to an arrest warrant obtained by
WFAA.
The boy, who was a student in Mints' s*x-ed
class, claims he was texting with Mints in
January and he told her he was having a
problem with his man-hood, and she replied she
would have to see it to know what was wrong.
The boy says he then went to the school, where
Mints performed a s*x act on him.
Investigators say Mints also had s*xual relations
with a high school senior. Mints allegedly texted
the senior asking "if he liked white girls," then
invited him to her home where she performed a
s*xual act on him, according to CBS DFW.
Maggie Roberts, whose niece goes to Bessie
Coleman Middle School, told the station that she
is "very disappointed and very surprised" at the
allegations. Roberts said Mints is "a great
teacher. Always friendly, smiling, willing to
help."
Mints has been charged with aggravated s*xual
assault of a child and two counts of improper
relationship with students.

"I know why actors are dying in Nollywood" - Prophet Chris Okafor
Prophet Chris Okafor is the General Overseer of
Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry. Below
is what he told an Encomium magazine reporter
about the recent deaths in Nollywood
"This year I gave a prophecy concerning the
entertainment industry that there is going to be
series of death, and they never asked me for a
solution. One problem is that they like to go to
churches where they do paparazzi and the rest.
They don't want to come to the truth and that
is why they are dying this way. If they come to
me, I will tell them the mystery why people are
dying in Nollywood just like I've been able to
tell Nigerians why electricity can't be stable in
Nigeria. I know why they are dying. Let them
come to me"

Hotelier & politician Prince Buruji Kashamu robbed of $62,000 on Arik flight
On Tuesday May 7th, popular hotelier and
politician Prince Buruji Kashamu was on Arik flight
no - W3155 from Lagos to Abuja, Time- 15h00.
Ticket number 7253293631462-1. Seat no- 4F,
when his $62, 000 disappeared from his briefcase.
Below is what he said.
"I have never heard of this type of daylight
robbery and didn't think I would be the first but
the next time it happens to me, Arik Air should
be ready for me.
I had $62,000 ( sixty two thousand dollars) in
my briefcase and saw the money just before I
went through screening. I noticed in the car on
my way to the hotel that the money has
mysteriously left my suitcase.
Arik air either has a ring of thieves doing this
operation in collaboration with the operators of
the screening machine or has a spirit that
steals from its overhead compartment."
I heard that some people actually buy business
class tickets just to steal from the rich men in that
section of the plane. This is not the first time we
are hearing about people losing things on the
plane. The airline companies need to be more
vigilant.

Mob kills undergraduate over alleged phone theft
A suspected phone snatcher said
to be an undergraduate of the University of
Calabar, was killed by a mob at about 9 p.m,
Wednesday, for allegedly snatching a phone and
a lady's handbag.
The undergraduate said to be operating with
someone at large was alleged to have boarded a
taxi at Marian Road to Calabar South and when
they got to Goldie by Atu Street junction, they
asked the taxi driver to stop and while stepping
down from the taxi, one of them grabbed the
lady's handbag who sat next to him while the
other snatched her phone.
"When the lady raised alarm, some people
chased the boys and one managed to escape
while the other hid himself in the gutter in front
of my house, " Dr Emmanuel Effiong Ene, a
lecturer who witnessed the incident said.
According to the lecturer, when one of the
thieves escaped, the mob came after the one
who hid himself and descended on him with
stones and cudgels.
"I heard someone scratch a machete on the
ground and soon after the boy began to scream
as he was being dealt machete blows," he said.
The machete cuts hacked off the suspect's
hands which left him dead and was
subsequently dragged from the gutter in front of
1 Gibson Street and dumped at the junction
between Goldie and Gibson with blood splashing
all the way.
"Some people bought tyres from the nearby
motor mechanic workshop to set him ablaze but
only his head and eyes caught fire, "he added.
Large crowd gathered early in the morning to
behold the gory sight while residents of the g
Gibson Street and the adjoining streets stayed
indoors or hurried off to work to avoid police
arrest.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police who gave
his name as Edem that led the team of
policemen to take the decapitated body away at
about 9am yesterday, said the body would be
taken to the General Hospital Calabar for
autopsy.
"It is against the law to just bury anybody who is
killed in mob action without post mortem
examination because in the event of any arrest
and subsequent legal action, the cause of death
has to be presented as evidence," he said.

4 NYSC members taken to court for noisemaking.
The police have complained about the
noise-making of the corps members
during court hours.
Four NYSC members were on Thursday dragged
before an Ibadan Chief Magistrates' Court
sitting in Mapo for allegedly disrupting
proceedings.
The corps members were at the premises of
the popular Mapo Hall for their weekly
Community Development Service.
The police had told the court that they had in
the past written letters to the NYSC Office in
Ibadan complaining about the noise often made
by corps members.
Angered by the disturbance during Thursday's
proceedings, Chief Magistrate, Adams Adeshina
ordered the corps members to appear in the
dock to explain why they should not be
convicted for contempt.
The corps members, however, prayed the court
to temper justice with mercy.
Speaking on behalf of the corps members, the
NYSC Liaison Officer for Ibadan South-East
Local Government, Jonathan Maduka, said
many corps members were unaware of the
court.
He further said that there was no notice
indicating that a court was located within the
premises.
After listening to their pleas, Mr. Adeshina
ordered the release of the corps members,
warning them against further disruption of the
court's proceedings.
He also promised to inform the appropriate
authorities about the need to provide
signboards indicating that a court was in
session.

“Hauntingly beautiful”: Victims of building collapse locked in final embrace
The Bangladesh garment factory tragedy is a
testimony to the high cost of cheap labour with
death toll rising to as high as 900.
No picture documents this unnecessary tragedy
more than the heartbreaking image of two
victims locked in a final embrace that captures
the moment the collapse took place. Both
victims lie in the debris together – blood
hardened on the man's cheek like a permanent
tear.
Shahidul Alam, founder of Pathshala, the South
Asian Institute of Photography, said that the
image is deeply disturbing but somehow
"hauntingly beautiful."
May their souls rest in peace.

Waje on Glo ambassador deal: ‘I’m grateful to God’
This could be described as a double blessing for the sensational singer, Waje who was recently unvieled as one of the new Glo ambassadors, a mouth-watering deal that came up few days after she launched her much talked about album.
Still basking in the euphoria of the excitement, the singer said, she is so grateful to God for the deal, adding that it is an indication that more blessings are coming her way before the end of
this year.
"I am so grateful to God for this deal. It shows that more blessings are still coming my way. As for what I will do with the money, it is strictly my personal business," she said.
The telecommunication giant, Globacom last week unveiled its new brand ambassadors, putting an end to all speculations about which entertainers would be signed on or not. While Omawumi, Waje, Lynxxx and Flavour have already been showcased in Glo's number Portability campaign, other entertainers like Bez and Tiwa Savage are being expected to follow
suit.
Our sources revealed that the telecommunication company may be resting their deals with Nollywood actors and switching over to pop stars. Glo, according to an insider believes, music stars are more influential amongst the youth than their Nollywood counterparts.

BLACKBERRY FACES BAN IN NIGERIA
Blackberry services could be at risk of being banned in the country as a new regulation by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, will run counter to the technical operating standards of the phone’s distinct network. Our source gathered yesterday that the telecoms regulator was working on a regulation, which would make it mandatory for any licensee in the nation’s telecoms market to provide access to its communications facilities for necessary interception by the law enforcement agencies.
To be called ‘Lawful interception of communications regulations”, the regulation, which is currently at the draft stage, is based on the need to provide a legal and regulatory framework for the lawful interception of communications in Nigeria and the collection and disclosure of intercepted communication. It will also specify the nature and types of communications to be intercepted; prescribe penalties for noncompliance with the regulations; provide a notification to the commission of all warrants issued, amended, renewed or cancelled under the regulations as well as ensure the privacy of subscribers as contained in the Nigerian constitution. It was gathered that Section 13 of the regulation Protected or Encrypted Communications will run counter to the technical operations of Blackberry.
By their designs and unlike other mobile devices, Blackberry messages are encrypted and where criminal investigation is required, the law enforcement agents will face denial of access to Blackberry network.
The NCC’s current move was in line with strategic measures of the Federal Government to ensure maximum national security by providing a legal framework that empowers the law enforcements agencies to access any licensed communication network in the country.
