Rapper, Mode 9 Goes Emotional: "I Released An Album, No One Cared"

Nigerian Rapper & six-time Headies awards
'Lyricist on the Roll' winner, Babatunde Olusegun
popularly known as Mode 9 went all emotional
on hotfm's breakfast radio show with TuTu
Adeoba and Cheezy Charles.
On his type of non-commercial rap, he re-affirms
that he can never change his type of rap to suit
an audience and decries neglect on his type of
rap'
'I put out a whole album nobody cared' 'A whole
20 track album 'alphabetical order' nobody gave
a f**k', nobody cares.
'You see how the industry is' how do you expect
me to feel? 'Nigerians don't like hip hop they only
follow the hype, they don't even know what it is'
I only cater for my real fans; I don't really care
about the fair weather, band wagon jumpers 'I
cater for my fans and they are feeling it' I have
put up too much effort in promotion of my
materials'.
"It's just some certain people in their minds
feeling that I'm not doing well' I have decided I
am going to attack anybody who calls me up and
asks 'where have you been?'
I have attacked everyone that has done that, I am
not afraid of anybody. It's just the way they
think. If your music is not playing in clubs then
you are not putting out the best.
My music is not club music, I didn't put out a
club album. Real fans of Mode 9 know where it's
happening and know how to get it. They've seen
it on TV and they loved it. So I think I'm doing a
great job. Imagine you doing all this and someone
walking up to you and asking, common where've
you been? Imagine how bad you'll feel after
spending millions of naira to promote yourself
from your own pocket.
He also cleared the air about the purported biff
with Vector concerning controversial single 'the
truth' released in July allegedly by Vector which
was widely reported as a diss track targeting
mode 9.
Mode said "I don't have any biff with Vector.
Vector was even on my album. The night that
song was released, Vector called me and said
someone was trying to sabotage him.
He said the song was recorded in 2009 but
whoever pushed it out in July had some part
doctored. Since Vector called me before the song
started making the waves I believed him. I even
tweeted that I'm cool with Vector. We both
tweeted that we are cool with each other.
But people still went on to blow the story,
begging for a war, I'm sorry but we won't be
giving anybody a war".

Patience Jonathan Oppresses The People Of Abuja

Residents and visitors to Abuja, Nigeria's
Federal Capital were on Thursday subjected to
unwarranted restriction and security cordon, as
the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, took
time off to sing and dance with women drawn
from the 36 states of the Federation.
The event, which was held at the Eagles Square,
effectively cut off workers from the imposing
Federal Secretariat on both Shehu Shagari Way
and Ibrahim Babangida Road, forcing them to
trek for miles to their offices.
The big event, which took the workers and
residents by surprise, also prevented commercial
and government drivers from dropping their
passengers, mostly workers in their designated
bus stops around the secretariat.
Instead, hordes of stern-looking and gut-toting
securitymen, who had arrived the venue before
dawn, ordered them to stop some 200 metres
away from the Square, which is surrounded by
the Federal Secretariat.
As vehicular and human traffic was effectively cut
off from all the routes leading to the venue of the
First Lady's rally, tagged, "Nigerian Women Rally
for Peace and Empowerment", frustrated
motorists were funnelled to any available space,
thereby leading to a chaotic traffic snarl for most
part of the day.
As a result, all major streets in the Business
District of Abuja, were overflowed with long
queues of human and vehicular traffic, giving
traffic warders a hectic day.
While the traffic chaos lasted, armed soldiers and
policemen in battle-ready mood took their
positions on strategic road intersections, frisking
commuters and pedestrians as if a war was on
the offing.
The armed men on the streets were given aerial
support by military helicopters, which hovered
over the venue of the rally as long as the
ceremony lasted, making occasional displays, as
they flew past.
Inside the rally venue, Dame Jonathan, backed by
Vice President, Namadi Sambo and some
ministers and their spouses, relished the show as
thousands of women danced and marched past
her.
Like the President would do during national
events, she smiled and waved at the women
groups. Displaying a sense of excitement and
satisfaction over the large mobilisation of women
and artistes to the venue, which must have cost
the nation a fortune at a time the government
claims it does not have N92 billion to settle
teachers demand, Mrs. Jonathan frequently
nodded her head and smiled as the various
groups performed.
Women in the various military and paramilitary
agencies in the country and women organisations
were mobilised to sing, dance and march all for
the First Lady, just as groups gave goodwill
messages to the President's wife.
The security lockdown in Abuja, Vanguard learnt,
was also necessitated by the suspicion that some
insurgents had planned to attack certain places in
the country this week.

Popular comedian and Nollywood stars, John
Okafor (Mr Ibu), Chinedu I

The abduction of a five-year-old girl,
Oluwaseun Ogungbemile, at the Redemption
Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of
God, has thrown her parents into panic.
It was learnt that the girl, in company with her
parents, had gone to the camp at Kilometre 46
on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State,
to attend the one-week annual convention of
the church that ended on Sunday.
The girl, who is the youngest child of her
parents, was last seen playing with two of her
cousins on Friday, August 9, 2013.
The victim's aunt, Omotade Odunowo, said
that the matter had been reported to the
police.
She said, "She (Oluwaseun) was staying at a
rented chalet in the camp along with her
parents. Around 10am on that day, she was
seen with two of her younger cousins, who are
between the ages of two and three.
"After sometime, we did not see her again. Due
to the young ages of the little children who
were with her at the time of her
disappearance, we have not been able to know
what happened exactly."
Odunowo said all efforts to trace the victim's
whereabouts proved abortive and the family
believed that she had been abducted.
She said the family had searched every nook
and cranny of the camp and reported to the
relevant authorities in RCCG, all to no avail.
She added that no one had called the family to
demand a ransom.
Odunowo said, "We have been traumatised
since then and cannot wait for the safe return
of our daughter back home. We shall therefore
be extremely grateful to receive any
information that may lead to our reunion with
Oluwaseun. She is adorable, smart and talks a
lot."
She said the girl's parents had not been
alright since the incident. She said the mother
had refused to go back to work since her
daughter went missing.
She said, "Oluwaseun's mother has not left the
Redemption Camp since the incident occurred.
She is still hoping that the person that took
her away would bring her back."
When contacted on the telephone, the state
police command's Public Relations Officer,
Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident to our
correspondent, adding that the matter was
being investigated at the Redemption Camp
Police Station.
"The parents of the victim said they came to
the camp with eight children and one of them
had gone missing. We have swung into action
and we want to assure the family that the little
girl will be found," he said.
A security official at the church, who refused
to identify himself, said the matter had been
reported to the police.
He however refused to disclose further
information, adding that it was not the wish of
the church that the news of the abduction be
leaked to members of the public.

Why I donated my kidney to save my brother's life - Comedian D- Don

Popular comedian and OAP Iruvwe Okeremute
aka De-Don donated his kidney to his ailing
elder brother, Morris Okeremute, who urgently
needed a transplant to survive. De Don traveled
to India a few weeks back to donate his kidney.
He explains why he did it in a new interview
"My brother started having this kidney
problem in 2009. My elder sister donated
her kidney to him at the time but
unfortunately in January 2013 the kidney
failed because he didn't take his drugs for
some weeks because the drugs he ordered
from India arrived late. Se when he needed
another kidney it was natural that I donate
to him. It wasn't difficult making up my
mind because I needed to save his life. I
equally had a proper awareness about
kidney donation and also the fact that
nothing happened to my sister who had
donated before. She even had another baby
boy after the donation.

Fan Jailed For Hugging Cristiano Ronaldo

The fan who was jailed for invading the pitch
during the International Champions Cup match
between Real Madrid and Chelsea to hug
Cristiano Ronaldo last week has stressed that
he has no regrets over his actions.
Ronald Gjoka, 19, ran onto the pitch in the
67th minute to embrace his idol, only to be
arrested by local police and taken to jail for
trespassing and disorderly conduct.
Gjoka spent the night in prison before he was
allowed to leave the day after, yet he has
stressed that the moment was worth the
punishment.
"Honestly, first thing was look straight, find
Cristiano and don't look back. Just go," Gjoka
told Local10.
"I decided to add a little knee slide on it just
for a little celebration. I think Ronaldo always
does that celebration so I thought that he
would find it funny, and he did, he gave it a
little laugh.
"But after that, I gave him a big hug, told him
you're one of my biggest idols, always followed
you and I said, 'Please, Ronaldo, don't let the
cops take me,' and that's when Ronaldo gave
me a very big hug.
"I got the opportunity to talk to Ronaldo. It
was a unique opportunity and I had to take it.
It was worth the detention."
The Portugal international netted twice to help
Madrid to a 3-1 win over Chelsea in last
week's encounter.

Korea Constructs Road That Wirelessly Charges Moving Electric Buses

An electric bus that charges its batteries while
driving (rather than while sitting idle in a
charging station) is no longer science fiction.
Researchers at Korea's Advanced Institute of
Science and Technology (KAIST) recently
constructed a seven and a half mile stretch of
asphalt roadway in the city of Gumi in South
Korea with specialized electric cables designed
to power batteries on a moving passenger bus.
The first of it's kind technology doesn't need
the vehicles to stop at a point to charge.
The bus's batteries are equipped with a novel
technology called "Shaped Magnetic Field In
Resonance" that sends electromagnetic fields
created by the electric cables buried in the
asphalt to the bus but not normal cars.
The technology recognizes vehicles capable of
accepting the electric charge and those that
cannot.
A coil in the battery can turn the
electromagnetic fields into electricity at a
distance of more than half a foot above the
road.

Aluu 4: Victims Tortured With Dogs Before Being Set On Fire

A police officer, Mr. Raphael Ezechi, told a
Rivers State High Court sitting in Port
Harcourt, at the resumed hearing in the killings
of four University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT,
students in October 2012 in Omuokiri, Aluu
community, that a dog was used to torture the
students before they were set on fire.
Mr. Ezechi of the State Criminal Investigative
Department and a Deputy Superintendent of
Police, led in evidence by the Solicitor-General
of Rivers, Mr. Rufus Godwins, narrated that "a
team of policemen from Isiokpo Division was
dispatched to the scene of the incident to
rescue the students but due to the distance,
the students were set ablaze before the arrival
of the police."
The witness, said he took photographs of the
deceased and a dog, said to have been used
to torture the students, adding that
information was also gathered from the
Internet which were recorded.
The defence counsel, however, objected to the
prosecution's move to tender the photo
evidence as exhibits, contending that the
police officer was not the maker of the said
documents.
The defence argued that no proper foundation
had been laid for the admissibility of the
photographs, urging the court to reject same.
Responding, Mr. Godwins, the prosecution
counsel said that the foundation was laid from
records of proceedings by the court and urged
the dismissal of the objection, which he
described as misconceived by the defence.

17 Year Old Girl Beheaded In Abia

The beheading of a 17-year-old girl, Chioma
Emeka Ikwuagwu, by unknown killers has
caused tension between Ameke and Ukome
communities in Umuahia North Local
Government Area of Abia State.
The late Chioma hails from Ameke but lived
with her parents at Ukome, where she was
killed. The bereaved community of Ameke is
said to have given Ukome three days to
produce their daughter.
The notice expired on July 30, thus creating
apprehension in Ukome community. Sources at
Ukome said the deceased, who was an SSS3
student of Holy Rosary College, Umuahia, was
the first of five children.
Her father, Emeka Ikwuagwu, told reporters
that on July 26, he went to collect some corn
from one of his farm while his wife, Akunna,
led some people to weed their other farm.
Ikwuagwu said Chioma brought food to the
farm for her mother and the workers at noon.
He said: "She was asked to go to another farm
to collect some vegetables for use later that
evening and she never came back.
It was the last time she was seen alive. "When
she did not return, her mother went in search
of her, only to discover blood everywhere at
the farm and she alerted me.
"I immediately organised a search party to
look for her around the farm and her lifeless
body was found at a nearby spot with palm
fronds covering her. "When we found her, her
jeans were drawn down close to her lap, she
clutched tightly to her underwear with one
hand with machete cuts on her other arm. Her
head had been cut off.
"We left the body like that so that the police
could see it. They (police) came on Saturday
morning to remove the body and deposited it
at the City Gate Mortuary, Umuahia, after the
Federal Medical Centre rejected it." A source
said upon hearing the news, Ukome youths
searched the bush for the killers. He said:
"They didn't find anything.
The father was compelled by tradition to
report the incident to his kinsmen at Ameke,
which he did. "On July 28, they marched on
Ukome with wooden gongs and symbolic palm
fronds, which they handed down to Ukome
people, demanding their daughter or her
killers." It was gathered that a suspect has
been arrested.
The man is said to have threatened the family
over a piece of land because of a piece of land
willed to Ikwuagwu by his late grandmother.
Police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna said the
command was aware of the matter, but that
they are still waiting for full details before
starting investigations.

A man who allegedly defrauded several
persons of over N10 million while parading
himself as an army major was yesterday
paraded by soldiers attached to attached to
the Edo State joint military anti-robbery unit,
code named Operation Thunder Storm.
Army Public Relations Officer, Capt. Roselyn
Managbe, while parading the fake army major
identified as Kabiru John from Nasarawa
State, and other suspected criminals at the 4
Brigade Army Headquarters, Benin City, said
the suspect had perpetrated frauds, including
tricking one Ayeni Friday and one Tony Kabaka
into parting with their vehicles.
According to her, Kabaka parted with his Lexus
SUV in exchange for securing entry into the
army school for his son, as promised by the
fake army major. Kabaka, Chairman of Akugbe
Ventures, is one of the consultants to the Edo
State government on revenue generation.
Managbe said soldiers from the brigade also
arrested suspected robbers, including Monday
Aigbe, an ex-convict and a suspected narcotic
dealer, Mrs. Josephine Ochini.
"on June 20, 2013, one Mr. Ayeni Friday of 17,
Eguaeveon Avenue, Benin City complained to
troops of Operation Thunder Storm that he
gave his vehicle, a blue Chrysler 300
2005/2006 model without registration number
to one Major John Kabiru of 4 Brigade Provost
Company for repairs on May 28, 2013. He said
efforts to retrieve his car from him proved
abortive.
"Our preliminary investigation revealed that Mr.
Kabiru John had been parading himself as a
major in the Nigerian Army. It was also
revealed that he claimed to be serving in 4
Brigade as the Officer Commanding the
Provost Company. It was further revealed that
he was always seen around dressed in full
military gear while involving himself in all
forms of shady deals and duping unsuspecting
victims.
"Mr. John Kabiru confessed that the Lexus
SUV which was recovered from him with
registration number EDO BF 607 USL belonged
to one Mr. Tony Kabaka of 18, Etete GRA,
Benin-City.
"The suspect claimed that he trickishly
collected the Lexus SUV from the victim with
the promise that he would secure admission
for his son into the Nigeria Defence Academy.
He also confessed that he had duped several
unsuspecting persons under the pretext of
either helping them to join the Nigerian Army
or securing admissions for their wards into
military institutions," Managbe said.
The fake army Major claimed to have joined
the army in 2003, but was dismissed in 2006.
He also said he graduated in Electrical
Engineering, from Nasarrawa State
Polytechnic.
"I served at 82 Battalion, Jos, but I was
dismissed in 2006, with the rank of private. I
was doing it (impersonating) because friends
that I knew thought I was still in the army. I
have learnt to think good things, I have learnt
to stay out of crime and stop parading myself
wrongly," John said.
One fake JTF staff tag, International passport,
combat gears, an army kit bag, a digital
camera and a vehicle number plate, were some
of the items recovered from the fake officer.

It was a drama of sorts during the
verification
exercise of primary school teachers'
certificates in Edo State on Tuesday as one
of
the teachers in the state, Mrs. Augusta
Odemwingie, could not read a sworn
affidavit
she tendered as part of her credentials.

CBN To Introduce New Naira Notes By September, To Reprint N5, N10, N20 And N50 On Paper

Deputy Director, Operations of The Central Bank
of Nigeria, Dr Tunde Lemo, has said the bank will
take delivery of new Naira notes before the end
of September for circulation.
The News Agency Of Nigeria reports that The
apex bank had earlier said that new Naira notes
would be in circulation by June, and that the
smaller denomination notes (N5, N10, N20, and
N50) would be reprinted on paper.
"We are going to take delivery of the new notes
from this month of August. We will take delivery
of the new notes before the end of September.
"The public will get a large quantity of the new
notes to replace the old and mutilated notes,
particularly the higher denomination notes in the
first instance, then later the lower
denominations,'' he said.
On the scarcity of the lower denomination notes,
Lemo blamed commercial banks for what he
called "poor circulation''.
"For the lower denomination; well, I think the
banks are really the ones that are really not
allowing the lower denomination in circulation,
largely, because of the carrying value.
"Most people don't require small denomination.
But for buying things in the market, if you look at
the veracity, you find out that the N50 circulate
more than the smaller ones,'' he said.
Meanwhile, Lemo has urged law enforcement
agencies to arrest all illegal hawkers of new
Naira notes.
He also called on commercial banks to keep
watchful eyes on their staff to avoid being used
as conduit for illegal transfer of new notes to
unauthorised hands. Lemo said this should be
done to ensure effective protection of the
currency from abuse.
"We have done all we can do in the sense that
we have criminalised this in the 2007 Act. It is
clear that if you hawk notes, if you abuse the
currency, it is a criminal offence and it is
punishable.
"We expect law enforcement agencies to do the
arrest. We don't have power to arrest. We know
it is going on,'' he said. Lemo said commercial
banks should "dispense and pay their customers
with new notes''.
He said the apex bank had carried out
sensitisation campaigns to inform the public and
warn them about the dangers of patronising
hawkers. "I think that is the limit the central
bank can go,'' the deputy governor said.
Naira notes are sold at Dei Dei along Kubwa
Express Road, Abuja, as well as other locations
across the country.

Man Rapes Cow, Bags 14-Year Sentence

A 35-year-old Kenyan man has
been sentenced to 14 years in
prison for raping a cow.
Jackson Karuga is said to have allegedly engaged
in the act with his neighbor's cow.
Issuing the ruling in a court in the central part of
Kenya, Principal Magistrate Wendy Micheni
Kagendo said the evidence adduced by five
witnesses, including a veterinary officer, was
direct and concrete.
The cow's owner, Ann Wanjiru, told the court that
on the day she had gone to milk her cow at 5:00
when she saw a pair of trousers at the shed's
entrance. She later saw Karuga busy in the act,
though he did not see her.
Wanjiru said she left the scene and went to alert
neighbors who caught Karuga with his pants
down.
In mitigation, Karuga said his bachelorhood
forced him to commit the offence. He added that
he was living under stress since his father passed
away last year and that he could not afford to
marry.
Karuga further claimed that he was providing
school fees for his siblings and taking care of his
ailing mother.
However, the magistrate dismissed his mitigation
saying that the fact that he was not married did
not mean he would have married the cow, and
that it was not reason enough for him to resort
to bestiality.
She condemned the act saying bestiality cases
are rampant in the region and a deterrent is
needed. The magistrate further said the cases of
bestiality are a sign of moral decay in the society
and the sentence would serve as deterrent to
others with similar plans.

40 Year Old Bridge Collapses In Ebonyi

A 40-year old bridge, known as
Eguhuo bridge in Agba, Ishiellu
Local Government Area of Ebonyi,
caved in on Wednesday after a heavy downpour.
According to reports, the rainfall paralysed
economic activities in the area as vehicles could
not gain access to communities in the area.
The affected communities are Ogboji, Eguhuo,
Eguotu, Eguogiji and Onunweke.
A representative of the area in the state
assembly, Julius Nworkpor said that the situation
had made it impossible for the people to gain
access to their communities with vehicles.
"Before this unfortunate situation, a journey to
Enugu State from the area took about 30 minutes
but now its lasts for some hours. Indigenes of the
area who wish to access their communities from
Abakaliki now have to get to Enugu through the
Enugu-Abakaliki expressway and then take Abani
to reach the place," he said.
Nwokpor said this was the second time the
bridge was caving-in in three years. He urged the
people to exercise patience, adding that the
government would expedite action on the new
bridge it was constructing beside the failed one.
Conducting journalists and a team of engineers
round the bridge, the state's Commissioner for
Works and Transport, Chukwuma Nwandugo, said
the bridge caved-in due to heavy traffic.
"The pressure weakened the bridge and forced the
abutment to cut off from the metal reinforcement.
The unity bridge beside it could have been
completed before now, but it was discovered it
was poorly designed and could pose serious
threat to users," he said.
