Prostitutes strip Jehovah’s Witnesses naked, burn Awake in Delta

In a reminiscent event, prostitutes operating at a popular Ezenei-Cable point in Asaba Delta State humiliated four gospel Jehovah Witness preachers during their
routine activity leaving two of them naked
while their bags containing Awake and
watchtowers publications were allegedly set
ablaze.

It would be recalled that few years ago some
"Christian convertors" from a popular
Pentecostal church after they were allegedly
hoodwinked into love making with the harlots,
had their Bibles set ablaze upon their refusal to
pay for services rendered.
Eyewitness told LEADERSHIP FRIDAY that the
incident occurred last Tuesday night when the
preachers approached the brothel to be part of
their gospel teachings.
But as unsuspecting regular visitors/preachers
to various places, sources say they moved into
the brothel and were greeted by some of the
commercial sex workers who immediately
assembled around them.
But this fateful day it was not to be for
the Jehovah preachers who had gone to the
brothel without the female among them and in
their usual way introduced the topic in one of
the "Awake" and while the biblical discourse
lasted, the preachers were said to have been
greeted in rude shock when one of
the sex workers identified as Chinasa raced out
of her room in "Hot Pants" that merely covered
her nudity.
The preacher LEADERSHIP FRIDAY reliably
gathered, resisted the attempt on him but the
hooker's method gained prominence and was
dragged into the room.
Expectedly, the preacher and the prostitute
were said to have been engaged in serious battle
right inside the room when his colleagues made
attempt to rescue him but the situation became
worse as the harlots were allegedly said to have
teamed up and seized their bags containing
"Watchtower and Awake".
They were said to have beaten them calling
them unprintable names.

Oyo Governor sued over non-conduct of council elections

Okay, this does not happen everyday.
Local council elections still haven't taken place in Oyo since the inauguration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi's administration in 2011.

Alhaji Rafiu Bolatito is mad about it, and he's
suing the Governor.
The law suit was filed by Akinyemi's counsel, Mr. Biodun Abdul-Raheem, at the High Court is dated May 7th of this year and is supported with a 15-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Akinyemi.

In the affidavit, Akinyemi claims to have political ambition to contest 'as a candidate for the post of Chairman, Oluyole Local Council, one of the local councils in Oyo', which he says is being threatened by continued renewal of the tenure of
its caretaker committee every six months.
In the originating summons, the plaintiff asks
the court to interprete whether "having regards to the clear provisions of Sections 7 (1) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), which guarantees the system of local councils by democratically-elected officers,
it permits the appointment or selection of
caretaker or transitional committee or renewal of terms of office of the appointment or selection of caretaker or transitional committee to run the affairs of a local council.

Akinyemi also wants the court to grant him a
perpetual injunction 'restraining the defendants by themselves, their agents and assigns from appointment or renewal/extension of appointment or tenure of caretaker or transitional committee or any unelected person or persons by whatever name or description to run the affairs of local councils in Oyo."

Such legal language, and drama. Testy days lie ahead in the Pacesetter state.

FG Needs $244m For Border Surveillance Equipment

The Federal Government has said it needs
$244m to install electronic surveillance
round the country's borders.

Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, said
this in Abuja on Thursday while briefing
the Peoples Democratic Party National
Working Committee members on the activities of the ministry.
He said the amount, if available, would be enough to provide security around the country's borders.

Noting that the ministry had uncovered 30 illegal guard companies in Nigeria, Moro, however, said the United States had offered to assist Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
Moro, who also acknowledged that the country's borders were porous, said with the surveillance projects, the policing of the illegal 1,497 routes into the country would be more effective.

The minister said, "We are making efforts to
procure appropriate modern technology to be
installed along our borders and we are collaborating with the US State Department and a private Chinese company.
"When we have done this, the temptation of illegal entry into Nigeria will be reduced."
The minister explained that his ministry was
collaborating with the Border Development Agency to construct Border Plaza at 84 sites, which he said would promote commerce along the border communities and reduce illegal activities.

On the alleged employment racketeering in the ministry, Moro dismissed the allegation.
He noted that some faceless people used the name of the ministry to open a website, exploiting the platform to swindle innocent job seekers.

He said, "There was no employment racketeering in the ministry, what we heard was that some unscrupulous elements opened a website in the name of the ministry which they have been using to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.

"One of them even used my name to open such
website but we have been able to arrest him
somewhere in Asokoro, Abuja."

deployment of over 3000 Joint Taks Force

A Neighbour and resident of the slain provision dealer who does not want his name mention in the print for security reasons told the correspondent that "the gunmen upon arriving at the residence of Mr. Bitrus asked one Almajiri boy to enter the house and told the provision dealer to come out as some people/customers were outside and wanted to buy things from the store, upon responding to the call, Mr. Bitrus, his son and the Almajiri boy were coming out to attend to their customers, not knowing that the people came for a different mission"

He said, as they approaches the store located at the frontage of the house, the gunmen opened fire and killed them including the boy they sent to call Mr. Bitrus.
Due to the total GSM network black out in Borno, the JTF Spokesman's number, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa and the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin could not be reached for confirmation as at the time of going to press.

Woman Burns Her Son’s Face Over Soup

A woman, Sakirat Attah, 25, has been
arrested by the police at Elemoro Division,
Lekki, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for severely
scalding her son's face.

Little Daniel with scalded face. Inset… Injury
inflicted on his head by his mother

The petty trader who resides at Abijo village in Ibeju Lekki, allegedly carried out the dastardly act while punishing little Daniel for licking their neighbour's soup.
It was gathered that Sakirat also used a broken bottle to stab Daniel in the head during her fit of anger and he sustained a deep cut in the head.

A police source said that the victim's neighbours rescued him from the mother and quickly rushed him to a nearby hospital due to excessive loss of blood.
The trouble started for the little boy when their co-tenant allegedly caught him licking their pot of soup and reported him to his mother.

The mother of the child was said to have dragged her son inside her room and locked the door.
She allegedly lit her stove and put an iron spoon on it to get hot and used it to burn her son's face and hands as punishment.
It was also gathered that when the little boy was not cooperating with her, she allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed him in the head before neighbours who allegedly heard the boy crying for help entered the woman's room and rescued him.

During interrogation, the little boy allegedly
admitted licking the soup because he was seriously hungry since his mother did not provide food for him to eat on time. The neighbours, it was learnt, reported the matter to the police who arrested the woman.

During interrogation, she allegedly admitted
scalding her son with hot spoon to teach him a lesson not to steal again, adding that she did not know that the torture would cause the boy such injuries.
After investigation, she was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate's Court, Lagos on a one count charge of assaulting a minor occasioning bodily harm. The offence, the prosecutor, Supol E. C. Ekuma said, contravened section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

She adjourned the matter till 27 June, 2013 for mention. The defendant was, however, moved to Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, pending when she would fulfill the bail conditions.

Lagos clamps down on environmental polluters

In a sweeping action on Thursday, the Lagos State
Environmental Protection Agency sealed off about
15 companies located in various industrial and
residential areas in Lagos.
LASEPA's Director of Enforcement, Mr. Kayode
Bello, who led the team, said the companies and
factories were shut down because they were
"sources of environmental degradation and
pollution."
When the team, which was backed by armed
policemen, arrived at two of the companies -
Primlaks Galvanizing Industries and Eureka
Metals Limited, the employees were caught
unawares
Bello gave orders from a hand-held megaphone.
He told workers at Primlaks to drop their tools
and vacate the premises immediately. The
workers, numbering hundreds, trooped out of the
factories.
The LASEPA team pointed at some oil and
aluminium sludge in the companies' drain.
Bello said, "This oil is collected and channelled by
the drains into streams and rivers, where they
contaminate aquatic life. The fishes in the water
are in turn eaten by Lagosians and these cause
various diseases.
"We have warned these companies several times
in the past, and we even recommended ways to
abate the pollution, but they did not comply. Their
offences include air and noise pollution, discharge
of sludge from furnace into the environment."
The Production Manager of Primlaks, Joel
Adebomi, told our correspondent that the
production wastes, which were packed in plastics,
contained zinc and lead. He said the wastes were
bought by "outsiders who refine and resell them."
Bello however disputed that the wastes were
refined, saying the wastes were improperly
disposed.
Other companies shut on Thursday were
Wingham Furniture, Berkley Estate, Abule-Egba;
a bakery at 5, Ali Street, Off Olorunshogo,
Mushin; Tin Oil Limited, Muritala Mohammed
Way, Yaba; Ikorodu Industrial Steel, Odogunyan,
Ikorodu. Two churches shut because of noise
pollution are Christ Victoria Chapel at 2B, Cole
Street, Iyana Ipaja; and Christ Chosen Church of
God at 10, Matanmi Street, Onipanu, Lagos.
The General Manager of LASEPA Mr. Rasheed
Shabi said, "After warning these companies, their
proprietors went about sending people to us.
There is nobody above the law. Before we reopen
them, they must put our recommendations in
place."

Rainstorm sacks Bakassi returnees from camp

Bakassi returnees camping in Akwa Ikot Eyo
Edem have been displaced following a devastating
windstorm that ravaged St Mark's Primary School
being used as their temporary camp since March 7,
2013.
The windstorm which occurred on May 18 at
about 4pm blew off the roof of a four-classroom
block exposing the over 2,000 returnees to harsh
weather.
The rains that accompanied the storm aggravated
the problems of the returnees, who included
women and children.
Mattresses, sleeping mats, clothes and other
personal belongings were soaked, making life
unbearable for them.
Also pathetic was the destruction of foodstuffs
such as garri, rice beans, salt and other perishable
items subjecting the returnees to trauma.
Our correspondent, who visited the camp on
Thursday, observed that mattresses, clothes, mats,
foodstuffs were spread out in the sun to dry even
though the poor weather showed no hope of
abating.
The camp coordinator, Mr. Okon Ene, said that it
was a pathetic scenario as the people never
envisaged that the storm could blow off the roof.
He said, "We had to herd the children and women
to some safer corners while the men had to work
throughout the night trying to salvage their
property."
Assessing the damage, the Director-General of the
State Emergency Management Agency, Mr.
Vincent Aquah, said frantic arrangement was
being made to relocate the returnees to a safer
area.
He said he was aware of possible weather-related
diseases such as colds that could ravage the
people.
Aquah said, "Our record shows that 73 houses
were affected in Akpabuyo, while Ogoja had 497
houses destroyed. Boki 403, Obudu 33 and Etung
23. The storm displaced over 12,000 persons."
The returnees numbering over 2,000 had on
March 7 fled to Ikot Eyo Edem in Akpabuyo - a
Nigeria -Cameroonian border community
following alleged harassment by the Cameroon
authorities.

Son takes father to court for assault

A 27-year-old man, Aliu Yekini, brought his father, Kareem, before an Ejigbo magistrate's court for slapping him in the face with a native ring.

He said the action made him to almost lose his left eye.
Kareem, who was arraigned on three counts of assault admitted slapping Aliu but said it was with a "decorative ring" and he never meant any harm.

The Magistrate, Mrs. M.B Folami, rebuked
Kareem for assaulting his son and said he could have reprimanded him in a mild manner.
She said, "I think I am supposed to hand you over to the Lagos State Government. What if you had removed his eye? Because you gave birth to him does not give you the right to batter him to the point of almost blinding him."

Folami however asked Aliu if he took local gin, popularly called paraga, and smoked cigarette, which the latter admitted to.
She said, "Better go and mend your ways and stop taking cigarette and paraga. That was what your father was probably trying to correct you on when he almost blinded you."

In a dramatic twist, Aliu told the court that he
wanted to withdraw the charges against his father and would want to settle the matter the family way.
After being led in evidence to ascertain what
informed his decision, the three counts was
quashed against the defendant.

Limited."
The offence was said to have contravened sections
409 and 158 (2) of the criminal Law of Lagos
State, 2011.
The men pleaded not guilty to the three counts.
There was however a little interruption in the
proceeding, as two lawyers argued over who would
represent the three defendants.
The two later agreed to share them, and appealed
to the magistrate to grant the accused bail in the
most liberal terms.
Folami ruled that for the accused to be admitted
on bail, they must pay N500,000 each with two
responsible sureties in like sum

China plans truck manufacturing plant in Calabar

A Chinese trade delegation on a visit to Cross
River State has made known its intention to open
a truck manufacturing plant within the Calabar
Free Trade Zone.
The leader of the group and Deputy Mayor of
Chang Chun City, China, Mr. Gui Guangli,
disclosed this to Governor Liyel Imoke during a
courtesy call on Wednesday.
Guangli said the team had spent two days in the
state, exploring possible areas of investments,
adding that it decided to start with the
establishment of a truck plant.
The Deputy Mayor maintained that the
manufacturing company had eleven outlets across
the world including Japan, Germany and United
States. He disclosed that from their study, the
state was conducive for investments with the
presence of the airport, seaport and free trade
zone.
He noted that the truck which will be produced in
Calabar, would be of high technology and
standard, adding that volume of production will be
determined by the economic indices of demand.
Guangli said the trade mission was also intended
to invest in agriculture and pharmaceutical sectors
as a result of their further findings, saying that
China and Nigeria had an age-long relationship in
commercial activities.
In his response, Imoke commended the Chinese
Trade Mission for the decision to establish a truck
manufacturing plant in Calabar.
He noted the move would strengthen and develop
the economy of the state.
While hoping that their stay in the State would be
rewarding, Imoke said there were some Chinese
firms operating within Calabar Free Trade Zone
whose products were of high quality.
He said Cross River was one of the states with the
fastest-growing economy in Nigeria and its people
were peaceful and hospitable.
Also speking, the General Manager of Calabar
Free Trade Zone, Mr. Sadiq Kassim, said the visit
was as a result of the effort of the state
government and the zone to bring investments
into the state.
Kassim said Chang Chun City with a population of
over seven million had indicated interest to invest
in Nigeria through its chambers of commerce,
explaining that the trade mission intended to build
a truck manufacturing company within the
Calabar Free Trade Zone.
He hinted that the automobile company had the
financial capacity and technological know-how to
invest in the state, having found that the state was
conducive for foreign investments.

“I’m Married With Kids – And In Love With A Prostitute”

I'm in my early 40s and have a great wife
and two great young kids, all of whom I
love dearly.
I've been with my wife for over 20 years.
Everyone tells me how lucky I am to have the
perfect marriage. But, of course, I don't feel so
lucky. Instead I feel burdened, trapped by the
overwhelming obligations of family and of
keeping up appearances. The way I've tried to
deal with these feelings is by seeing prostitutes.
About eight months ago, I met and paid for the
woman of my dreams. She's beautiful, a s*xual
dynamo, smart, funny and sweet. She's not a
typical prostitute; she's more like the girl next
door who wants to get paid for her great looks
and abundant s*xual talents.
I soon went from being her client to being her
friend and confidant. Her presence in my life
does two things for me. First I get to feel those
incredibly strong emotions that I haven't felt in
years about my wife (lust and longing), and
more important, I feel so free during the few
hours a month I get to see her. Not only do we
explore s*xual fantasies that would be
completely out of bounds with my wife, but
more important, I can completely relax around
her and joke around and talk frankly, and not
have to worry about things like who's picking up
whom from school.
Of course, I know that this whole thing is
incredibly stupid and immature, but I can't
figure out how to unring the bell and go back to
a life without this woman. Do you think it will be
possible to not see her and forget about the
pleasure, love and passion that we had? I've tried
for a few weeks at a time, but I've always felt the
need to see her again — the urge for release,
both literally and metaphorically, was too strong.
I have a hard time imagining life without her,
but at the same time, she could never be a part
of my "real" life — I have too much invested in
my marriage and family to break it up.
So the question boils down to this: How do I give
up s*xual (and emotional) nirvana for the sake
of my family?

Lagos Police Nab Couple Who Abducts And Sells Children

The suspects paraded in Lagos
Policemen attached to Ilemba Hausa division in Lagos State have arrested a couple and two others who allegedly specialized in abducting children between ages one and four years and selling them to barren women and motherless homes in the eastern part of the country.

So far, about seven children reportedly stolen
from their parents' homes in Lagos and other
parts of the country have been recovered from
their new homes in Imo, Anambra and Delta
states.
One of the stolen children, Ezeaka Uchenna (4)
was picked from his parents' home, Madu Street,
Jakande Ojo, Ajagbadi area of Lagos by one of
the suspects, Adaeze Mba, on March 18, 2013 .
Adaeze who packed into same compound with
the Ezeakas in January 2013, was said to have
gone to purchase tapioca from Uchenna's
mother that fateful day, only to abscond with the
child. The couple immediately moved out of the
area and allegedly sold the child to a couple in
Obosi, Anambra State for N600,000.
However, during investigation, spokesman for
the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide,
while parading the suspects, yesterday, at the
Command's headquarters, Ikeja, said the
policemen acting on a tip-off stormed Ikot
Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State where the couple
were arrested.
"They confessed to have sold the child to one
Mrs Benedict at Asaba, Delta State. We
proceeded to Asaba where Mrs Benedict was
arrested. She made a confessional statement that
she buys and sells children to barren women and
that she had sold Uchenna to one Mrs Patricia at
Obosi in Anambra State.
"Investigation revealed that the couple had
earlier stolen Goodluck Amaechi (3) and
Promise Amaechi of same parents in Imo State
and sold to Mrs Benedict. Mrs Bendict confirmed
their statements and we proceeded to Obosi
where the children were recovered from one
Church of Goodness Motherless Babies Home.
Pregnant Adaeze who hails from Mbatolu Local
Government Area of Imo State blamed her
indulgence on the devil and her husband,
disclosing that they have been in the illicit act
for five years.
"Please forgive me. I was talked into it by my
husband. He asked me to get a child for him that
he would pay me N400,000. When I asked what
he wanted to do with the children, he assured
me it was not for ritual purpose that his boss,
Mrs Benedict takes them to motherless babies
home.
"Our targets are usually couples with more than
three children. What we do is to move into an
area, stay for about two to three months to get
acquainted with the people and immediately we
got any child, we would leave the vicinity for
another area where we are not known. We
usually rent single room apartments without
furnishing them."
Corroborating her claim, her husband, Mba, said
he ventured into the act when his sand dredging
business was no longer lucrative.
He said: "When I complained to a friend, he
introduced me to Mrs Benedict and since I met
her, my life never remained the same."
He said a male child was more expensive than
female, disclosing that Madam Benedict paid
him her as much as N600,000 for a male child
and four N400,000 for female. But for each child
brought by his wife, he said he used to make
N200,000 gain.
"What we do is immediately we succeed in
stealing a child, we send him/her to my boss
who in turn sell to motherless babies home and
to barren women. I was responsible for my
landlord's missing children. I sold them for
N400,000 each in Mbatolu, Imo State."
Vanguard gathered that Mrs Benedict was
arrested after the policemen who posed as
pregnant women called her on phone to inform
her that they had a baby boy for sale. But on
arriving the designated point in Asaba, Delta
State, the suspect who sensed trouble was said to
have zoomed off with one of the police women
in her car, in a bid to escape but was
overpowered.
The suspects, according to Braide, would be
charged to court soon.
On her part, the woman whom the couple sold 4-
year-old Uchenna to begged the world to forgive
her that she opted to buy the child following her
inability to give birth to a child of her own.
" I was married for 21 years without a child to
call mine. Someone introduced me to Benedicta
and when I told her I needed a child, she
requested for N600,000 but I told her I could
not afford that amount. She later called me to
meet her at the River Niger bridge at Onitcha.
On getting there he handed over the child to me.
I told her he was too big but she said that was
the only one she had.
I changed Uchenna's name to Amarachi and
enrolled him in a school where I pay N50,000
per term", said the widow who simply gave her
name as Patricia.
On her part, 35 year-old Benedicta Ogbonna,
who is a mother of four said she was only
involved in the act to help barren women. Asked
why she did not offer her own children for sale,
she kept mute.

Son Hacks 65-year-old Father To Death With A Machete

Mr. Felix Atta, a native of Umuonu Umuida
community, Enugu Ezike in Igboeze North Local
Government Area of Enugu State has allegedly
been killed by his son.
Police said the alleged murderer identified as
Ejiofor Atta, used a machete to slaughter his 65-
year-old father for reasons yet unknown.
Security operatives and family members have
commenced a manhunt for Ejiofor, who was
said to have gone into hiding after committing
the crime.
The unfortunate incident, it was learnt, took
place at about 2 p.m on May 18 at Umuonu
Umuida where the son of the deceased allegedly
macheted his father who was believed to be
about 65 years old to a state of unconsciousness.
The victim who was rushed to the General
Hospital, Ogrute Enugu Ezike was confirmed
dead on arrival, and his corpse was deposited at
the hospital's mortuary.
Confirming the incident, Enugu State Police
Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP,
said the command had already commenced
investigation into the incident.
Reports say Ejiofor murdered his mother about
six years ago.

Fake Bishop, Prophet Arrested After Foiled Kidnap

A foiled kidnap attempt on the proprietress of
Shammar Children's School, Udu Road, near
Sedeco area in Udu, Mrs. Onyi Ikemefuna and a pupil, has led to the arrest of two men, suspected to be fake pastors, by the the Delta State Police in Warri.

Anslem claimed to be the "Bishop" of a
Pentecostal church in Warri, while the other,
Joseph, said he was a prophet.
The suspects were, yesterday taken to the church allegedly run by the "bishop" for a search of the premises.

"Luck ran out of the duo when the proprietress, who initially reported the kidnap attempt on her, petitioned the Area Commander, Warri, alleging
that the police at Enerhen Division collected N2 million bribe to pervert justice."
In the petition by her lawyer, Mr A.E. Efole,
dated May 20, 2013, Ikemefuna said that the
fake prophet, who claimed to be working for the
"bishop" was apprehended in her school when he
came to kidnap a pupil in her school under the
guise of coming to give prophecy to her.
"On May 15, 2013, at about 9.45 am, one of the
suspects, Joseph, came to our client's school and
introduced himself to one of the administrative
staff as a man of God from Voice of God Prayer
Ministry, 40, Peter Odili Road, off Trans-Amadi
Slaughter Abuluma, Port Harcourt and
requested to see the victim. The administrative
staff said the victim was not around.
"Consequent upon that, the suspect became
agitated, which made the administrative staff to
corner him into a privacy to know why he was in
that mood and he confided in her that two of the
victim's staff are planning to kidnap her, which
they attempted the day the victim travelled with
all the school people, but that the plan was foiled
due to God's intervention.
"The supposed man of God also revealed to the
administrative staff that the victim would find
herself in a big predicament due to jealousy by
others. He was entreated to wait, but he insisted
he has to return to Port Harcourt that same hour
but that he could drop his phone number.
"When the victim returned at about 11.00am, the
whole episode was narrated to her and she opted
for the phone number and got in touch with
Joseph who eventually agreed to return from
Port-Harcourt since he was already there with
the understanding that the victim would foot the
bill.
"To the consternation of the victim, within an
hour after the last conversation with him,
Joseph called to say he was already from Port-
Harcourt and was at Enerhen Junction and that
he wants to see the victim privately and when
coming out from her office, she should be with a
little child to make the prophecy more
efficacious."
"The victim having assured him of the privacy he
opted for, yet would not see him, she came out
and saw a Toyota Camry car light brown in
colour facing Udu Road with some one in the
driver's seat and another occupant at the back
right hand side of the car and called his line but
he refused to pick.
"Nevertheless, after a while, the victim saw a
young light complexioned man with a Bible in
his arm whom she eventually ascertained to be
Joseph. Joseph became very uneasy due to the
victim's hot interrogation, which made her
furious, hence she raised alarm and at that point,
the standby car sped off."
"Consequent upon this, Joseph became afraid
and he agreed to confess if only he would be
allowed to go and the police not invited and the
victim agreed. He started saying that it was a
bishop whose church is along DSC Express Way
on the Ovwian Express that sent him to come
and kidnap her and a female pupil for ritual for
the expansion and growth of his church, while
money would be extracted from the victim's
family as ransom.
"At this, the victim decided to call Enerhen
police and Joseph repeated same confession
before he was taken away," the lawyer stated.
After the arrest of Joseph by the police at
Enerhen, the "bishop" was invited, but he
maintained the suspect was a mad man who
goes about blackmailing him, and a woman who
claimed to be Joseph's mother was allegedly
brought to corroborate the lunacy story, sources
said.
He added, "After some days, Joseph was let off
the hook by men of the Enerhen Police with
conclusion that the victim was mentally
deranged, a situation, which made the victim to
petition the Warri Area Command that the
Enerhen Police has compromised after allegedly
collecting N2million."
A police source who crave anonymity said,
"Since the arrest of the "bishop" on Wednesday
evening, some influential persons have been
mounting pressure on the Area Commander, and
our boss had to switch off his phones at a time."

I Can’t Find Jobs For My Daughters — El- Rufai

Former Federal Capital Territory minister,
Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, on Thursday
bemoaned the spate of unemployment in
the country, saying despite his
connections, he had yet to secure jobs for
his two daughters, who are both holders
of Masters Degrees.

The former minister, whose lecture was entitled Impunity, Injustice and Insecurity: What Role for the Law,' said Nigeria needed to create three million jobs yearly to tackle its employment problem.El-Rufai said this while delivering a lecture at the Sixth Annual Alao Aka-Bashorun Lecture, organised by the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch.

He said, "Forty-two per cent of Nigerian youths are unemployed.
"I have two daughters with Masters Degrees and they are unemployed. They have been at home for more than a year and I cannot get a job for them.
"We are sitting on a demographic time bomb and unless we have visionary leaders that are able to plan for the future, we will have a huge problem."
According to him, the Nigerian government is
spending N2bn daily on security, instead of
investing in infrastructure and human capital
development.
El-Rufai queried the N100bn Amnesty
Programme of the Federal Government, saying it had not solved the problem of pipeline vandalism and oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

He said, "Our oil production output is at its
lowest since 2009 as a result of oil theft and
closure of facilities by oil companies.
"That is why the government is borrowing more than ever and dipping into the nation's foreign reserves."

Residents Flee As Hoodlums Kill Policemen In Ikorodu

Some suspected hoodlums on Thursday,
killed two policemen and injured unspecified number of residents in Imowo Nla community in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

One of the policemen, named Ikpi Ikpi, an inspector, was said to have been ambushed in
the early hours of Wednesday.
An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said Ikpi and some of his men were going for a raid in company with some residents when he met his untimely death.

The eyewitness said, "It was around 4am on
Wednesday when Ikpi went for a raid in the
community. But unknown to him, some
hoodlums from Ikorodu had laid siege to the
community.
"Because the community was enveloped in
darkness at that time, the Inspector and his men were unaware of the hoodlums' presence. Ikpi was hit by a bullet fired by the hoodlums."
He said the other policeman, who died on
Thursday, was cut with machete on Tuesday,
when the hoodlums numbering over 100 first
invaded the community.
"On Tuesday when the hoodlums struck, only
four policemen were available. The hoodlums
attacked the policemen to send signal to the
community. Three of the policemen ran away, but the last one was inflicted with machete cuts.

"The policeman, who was initially rushed to a
hospital in Ikorodu, died today (Thursday)," the eyewitness said.

President Jonathan Recovers Ajaokuta Steel Company From Global Steel

President Goodluck Jonathan has recovered the dead Ajaokuta Steel Complex in Kogi State from Global Steel Holdings Limited, Chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Smart Adeyemi (PDP, Kogi West) has said, in a move that came six years after the company had remained non-functional.

Senator Adeyemi noted that the development
and bringing back of the company to full
operation will provide at least 10, 000 jobs, not only for Kogi State indigenes but also,
neighbouring states.

Speaking to newsmen, yesterday, Adeyemi said the Federal Government was in the process of negotiating the return of the Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe, also in Kogi State.
"The Federal Government has recovered the
Ajaokuta steel complex from Global Steel and
with that more than 10,000 workers would be
gainfully employed," he said.
"I think the return of this complex is worth
celebrating. The government of President
Jonathan is worth celebrating. They should be commended for recovering the complex. They have succeeded in recovering Ajaokuta without any attendant financial obligation whatsoever.
"This is a great achievement that deserves
commendation, irrespective of political
affiliation. The return of Ajaokuta will reduce
unemployment and crime. By this singular
achievement, it means this government has
raised the hope for industrial development in
Nigeria
"We got to know that Global Steel asked for $1
billion damages but the concession was illegal and unlawful. I want Nigerians to know that the Federal Government has been in arbitration with the International Chamber of Commerce since the concession was terminated in 2007. The case started in 2008.

"The two plants have not been functioning since they were privatized and I want to let you know that the meeting that resolved the issue was held in Dubai between April 29 to May 1.
"Ajaokuta is at the heart of technological
development in Nigeria. If we can get the
complex back, then, it means Nigeria's march
towards industrialization has started on a good path. Return of Ajaokuta means that this will change the face of Kogi Stats and hopefully, the northern region".

"The federal government may revalidate the
concession with Global Steel. I'm happy that the main plant is back to Nigeria."
It will be recalled that the Federal Government had been locked in arbitration with Global Steel Holdings Limited and Global Infrastructure Limited at the International Chamber of Commerce, London, for the return of Ajaokuta since 2007.

Ajaokuta was sold to Global Steel during the
administration of former President Olusegun
Obasanjo, under the privatisation Programme of the Federal Government then and after that, allegations of downsizing and asset-stripping came up before it finally shut down operations.

President Goodluck Jonathan was said to have intervened and the federal government regained total control of the steel company and with this, Global Steel agreed to forfeit hefty $1b initially being demanded as damages allegedly suffered by the company while running the two plants.

Some Nigerian Soldiers Help Boko Haram – Lt. General Ihejirika

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant
General Azubuike Ihejirika, on
Wednesday revealed that some soldiers
have been interacting with Boko Haram
insurgents and divulging vital secrets of
the army's military operations.
General Ihejirika made the startling revelation
in Abuja at a seminar on personnel management
and development organized by the Army
Transformation and Innovation Center.
The COAS, who was deeply distressed by the
development, stressed that soldiers who
collaborated with Boko Haram militants had
hampered military operations, even causing the
death of soldiers.
A few months ago, some soldiers traveling from
Akure to Kachia in Kaduna State to train prior to
deployment in neighboring Mali were ambushed
and killed in Okene, Kogi State. The COAS
disclosed that a soldier had supplied information
about the troops' movement to the insurgents,
enabling Boko Haram insurgents to mount a
surprise and successful attack.
A military source reported that the Army had
arrested one of the major culprits who provided
critical information that led to Boko Haram's
attack in Okene. "We have not released details of
the soldier caught in the act, but I assure you he
has been apprehended and will be court-
marshaled," said our source.
Our source added that some soldiers had also
been identified posting negative comments on
the Internet even as other rogue soldiers were
communicating with insurgents and giving them
information on the movements of troops.
General Ihejirika warned soldiers to desist from
disloyal acts, vowing to deal decisively with
those found culpable. He added that, with
Nigeria's present security challenges, it was not
acceptable for the Army to lose operatives to
dismissals. He therefore urged soldiers to be
forthright and professional in their activities.
The COAS said that he had advised commanders
to take it easy in dismissing soldiers, but insisted
that if a soldier's misconduct was disloyal, then
the Army would have no choice than to dismiss
and jail him.
General Ihejirika revealed that, as part of its
readiness for the security challenges, the Army
was training more than 1000 amphibious
soldiers to operate in waterways. In addition, the
Army was establishing a reserved battalion to be
led by a Colonel, supported by 25 other officers,
and building 176 Battalion at Gwagwalada in
Abuja.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Transformation and
Innovation, Major-General Ibrahim Sani,
remarked that active digitalized road blocks/
checkpoints have been set up to ensure close
monitoring of the movements of criminals,
improvised explosive devices (IEDs), arms and
ammunitions. He added that the new equipment
would reduce the traffic hardship to road users
in the country.

Jonathan Condemns Killing Of British Soldier

President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed
shock at the terrorist attack and butchering of a British soldier, Drummer Lee Rigby of the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in the Woolwich area of London, United Kingdom by a British-born Nigerian – Michael 'Mujahid' Adebolajo and an accomplice.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, Jonathan conveyed his condolence to British Prime Minister David Cameron and the British people over what he described as a "senseless and barbaric act."

The statement noted that a terrorist attack
anywhere is an attack on the way of life of all
free nations and must be collectively condemned by all persons irrespective of race, ethnicity or religion.

"It is in this spirit that the Nigerian government is partnering with the British Government, as well as all other stakeholder sovereigns to stand up to and fight terrorism and extremism in whatever guise or pretense it chooses to present itself."

The statement added that, "President Jonathan recognizes that each environment presents its own unique challenges and peculiarities and actions taken by affected nations may differ, yet the resolve to confront and defeat this threat should never be in doubt."

"Nigerians are collectively resolute about the
need to protect the freedoms that define our
existence and inter-relationships at home and
overseas. Our recent past tells us that when we pull together, this common enemy and threat will eventually be defeated."

Yobe Approves N187m Compensation For Boko Haram Victims

The sum of N187 million has been approved
by the Yobe State Government as compensation to victims of recent Boko Haram attacks in the state.

This was revealed Thursday by the state's
Commissioner for Information, Goni Fika, in a parley with newsmen in the state capital,
Damaturu.
Fika, who said the decision was taken at an
executive council meeting of the state
government, added that another N259 million
was approved for the payment of WAEC and
NECO fees for all students in its public schools.
Speaking shortly after the council meeting
chaired by the Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, Fika said the decision to pay compensation was based on the Assessment Report of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

He revealed that the SEMA report stated that 99 persons were killed across the state this year while 135 others were either injured or had their houses burnt during the attacks.

"Yobe Government has today approved the sum of N187.4 million as assistance to those whose houses were burnt and the people innocently killed by unidentified gunmen or bomb blasts in the state," Mr. Fika said.

Yobe is one of the states presently under
emergency rule.

Customs Intercepts 227 Cartons Of Concealed Ammunition In Oyo

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has seized 227 cartons of 56, 750, rounds of ammunition at Igboho area of Oyo State, just as the state Police Command said it intercepted about 3,500 live cartridges in Saki yesterday.

The Customs Area Controller, Mr. Richard Oteri, said yesterday in Ibadan that each carton "contained the red sar high speed of 250 cartridges of 12 gauges."
Oteri said his men did not make any arrests in connection with the ammunition as the suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled upon sighting his men.

According to him, the smugglers of the
ammunition concealed them in bags packed with dried tubers of cassava in a lorry.
The Customs boss, who later handed over the
ammunition to the Oyo State Deputy
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Musa Kimo, called on law-abiding citizens and traditional rulers to always volunteer information that would assist in tackling smuggling.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed
Indabawa, while parading a suspect identified as Soliu Akanji before journalists, said policemen intercepted a white car marked Lagos AW 965 KTU while on routine patrol in Isale Adini area of Saki.

Narrating how the suspect was nabbed,
Indabawa said the driver of the car suddenly
stopped when he sighted the police and the five occupants jumped out and fled in to the bush, but the police chased after them which led to the arrest of Akanji.

Indabawa said the cartridges were discovered in the vehicle when a search was conducted and vowed that the police would soon catch up with the fleeing suspects.

Nasarawa Massacre: Government Official Arrested For Leaking Information To Cultists

Security operatives have arrested a senior
director working with the state government in connection with the massacre of dozens
policemen and security agents in Alakyo in
Nasarawa State about two weeks ago.
The officer was alleged to have passed strategic security information to the cultists thereby enabling them to strike with precision on the fateful day.

The director, whose name was given as
Mohammed and works at the office of the
Secretary to the State Government, was privy to most security decisions taken by the state on account of his position in the administration, sources said.

The suspect, who is believed to be an Eggon
native, where the cult has its roots and base, was reportedly picked up from his office to the surprise of his staff, when the security men handcuffed and whisked him away in a
commando-like fashion.

Mohammed was initially detained and
questioned by men of the Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia before being transferred to Abuja for further interrogation in connection with the heinous crime.

A senior official of the Nasarawa State
government, who pleaded anonymity because he had not been authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed the arrest of the director and his subsequent transfer to Abuja by security men.

The officer said that the man was arrested after security agents established a relationship between him and the deadly cult group in the state.
On May 9, 2013, at least 96 police officers as well
as men of the Department of State Service, DSS,
who had gone to Eggon, about 10 kilometres
away from the Nasarawa State capital, to arrest
the leader of the Ombatse cult were ambushed
and murdered by the cultists.
As at yesterday, the security agencies were yet to
swoop on the cultists, who are believed to be
holed up in the vast forests in the area, roaring
to descend on any intruder in the community.
The cult group, which had earlier been outlawed
by the Al-Makura administration, was reportedly
encouraged by some powerful politicians to
continue with its malevolent activities, hoping to
use them to outsmart their opponents in the
2015 elections.

Meet Nigeria And West Africa’s First Female Military Pilot

She was commissioned as a Combat Flying
Officer alongside 126 others who finished
the Direct Short Service Course 2010/2011
Cadets of the 325 Ground Training Group
at the Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna.

Present at the winging ceremony (badge
decoration) was the then Chief of Air Staff, Air
Vice Marshal Mohammad Dikko Umar who
described her training as a 'very laudable
achievement'.

She was quite excited and proud to have made history and said: "It is very uplifting and I feel very proud of myself though it has been very challenging. Coming from the civil war and the civil mentality, the Air Force has done a great job because it has changed our orientation. I believe that all females have equal opportunity to dignify their rights in whatever adventure they choose they can do."
'As a first female pilot I would want to make a mark that would encourage other females to join the military because I believe that all females have equal opportunity to exercise
their rights in whatever they choose to do, I
believe that all female Nigerians who choose to become pilots can do it since I have done it.
This is a remarkable achievement, one that
should drive our ladies to know and see
themselves as been able to achieve the
impossible and break the so called glass ceiling in any sphere you find yourself.

Woman Fined N4000 For Disturbing Neighbours With Loud Music

A woman who kept her neighbour awake by
having her television on at top volume has been fined Dh100 (N4312) for creating a public
nuisance.

Her 41-year-old Russian neighbour complained to the building's management and Dubai Police that she could not sleep because of the loud
music coming from her 27-year-old Algerian
neighbour's apartment.
The incident happened on the 27th floor of a
tower block on Shaikh Zayed Road on March 1.
The Algerian woman however pleaded not guilty,
saying she had switched off the television and
left her house before the incident happened.
The Russian complainant said: "I moved into the
building on February 12. She constantly left the
sound of music at a very loud and disturbing
volume. The loud volume became very
disturbing to me and my roommate. Several
times F.Q.(the Algerian) put the television on
music channels, turned the volume loud and left
her flat. I repeatedly asked her in a very friendly
manner to reduce the volume…but every time
she became angry and asked me not to discuss
the issue with her.
"I complained to the management several times
but to no avail. However around 4.30am on
March 1 the volume was very loud and
unbearable. Then I decided to call the police
because I couldn't sleep for several nights. The
police came and knocked on the woman's door
for nearly 30 minutes but no one answered the
door."
Prosecution records said police ordered the
building watchman to disconnect the power to
stop the music.
Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Al Tamim,
Dubai Police Chief, warned on Tuesday that
motorists and bikers would have their vehicles
permanently confiscated if they played loud
music in residential areas.

‘Nigeria Has Recorded 400 Bomb Explosions From 2010 Till Date’

According to the head of Police Anti-bomb
Squad of the Federal Capital Territory, OC
Adigun Tajudeen, Nigeria has experienced 400 bomb explosions, from 2010 till date.

Tajudeen, who maintained that the Nigerian
Police had always been on top of all the
insecurity challenges in the country, however, lamented the dearth of concrete evidence from the 400 explosions.

Speaking at a lecture and simulation exercise put together by the North Central zonal office of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on experience sharing on mass casualty handling resulting from Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), Tajudeen said that often, people
rush to the scene of explosions before any
security agent thereby tampering with evidence.

According to him, "from 2010 till date, we've had over 400 bombings in Nigeria and no one has been able identify concrete evidence. When we attend world forum, we only present few evidence, which is not good enough."

However, with the spate of attacks with IEDs,
which have claimed many lives and destroyed valuables across the country, Tajudeen insisted that Nigerians must cultivate the habit of staying away from such scenes so that security agents can do their work properly.

"We are well prepared. If you watch our police incident at our Police Anti-Bomb Squad, you will agree that we have a prudent record, especially now that we are having these situations in the North-Eastern part of the country," he said.

"We have been very serious in these acts, and
several IEDs have been recovered and post-
investigation carried out, and results have
included bomb signatures."

During the simulation exercise, all critical
stakeholders involved, including the Nigeria
Police Force, Federal Road Safety Commission,

Nigerian Red Cross Society, Nigerian Civil
Defence Corps and the FCT Fire Service, were
activated to rescue casualties at an incident

A thank you message from Mercy Johnson Okojie to her fans. Read below...

'I want to say thank you to the fans, friends,
colleagues and producers who were there for
me. Many of them proved to be friends on and
off work. Many adjusted their schedules for me
and sent in their greetings during the child
dedication. I resumed work this week with
grateful heart and understanding that I am here
because God through the help of people made it
possible. Or how could I explain the
overwhelming votes I got at AMVCA despite
been away and inactivity on social media? How
could I explain the numbers of producers and
scripts waiting for my return? How could I
explain the overwhelming love and gifts while I
was away? I am very grateful and here to say a
big thank you to everyone who played a role
and those who as much as had good wishes in
their hearts. Thank you and God bless you'

Mercy officially resumed work this week, she is back on location with director and producer, Elvis Chucks. This is MJ's first job since giving birth in December.

29-year-old defrauds soldiers of N7.3m

A 29-year-old graduate of Yaba College of
Technology, Ayoade Abidemi, has been arrested by the Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi for defrauding some soldiers of N7.3m.

The amount was meant for the purchase of a large expanse of land at Ofada, Ogun state.
Abidemi was arrested alongside his 30-year-old employee, Tope Kehinde, after the Commissioner of Police, SFU, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, received a petition from the victims, alleging that they had been defrauded.

In a statement made available to PUNCH Metro by the SFU Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Isintume-Agu, Abidemi is said to have registered his company, Ampris Global Resources in 2009 with the sole aim of selling and developing real estate.
Ogunsakin said, "Abidemi and Kehinde
approached the complainants in September 2010 and told them of a large expanse of land for sale at Ofada. Abidemi claimed he had an agreement with a family to purchase 200 acres of land which he has started paying for in batches.

"Having indicated their interest, the military
personnel paid the sum of N7.3m to the suspects with the expectation that the land will be allocated to them.
"Their suspicion was aroused when they requested title document but were presented with a forged survey plan. Upon arrest and interrogation, Abidemi confessed to obtaining the said sum from the complainants but claimed that he had no intention to defraud them since he had allocated some plots to some of the buyers.

"He also confessed that he had not processed the certificate of occupancy with Ogun State Land Registry, but stated that he had sent an application to that effect."
Kehinde was said to have marketed the land to the complainants and provided them with the company's account number where they paid the money for subscription.

Why Naeto C Left Storm Records

According to a report from thenetng, Rapper
Naetochukwu Chikwe better known as Naeto
C has ended his relationship with Storm
Records, the music home where he launched
his career into the Nigerian music market.

The reason, however is not strange as the rapper revealed his plans to fully launch his WKG/Cerious Music label in a matter of months.

Unlike the many breakups that have preceded Naeto's, the rapper's exit is not battlemented; both parties have been very silent about the issue. As a matter of fact, Storm Records insist that the rapper
is still signed with them.

One of the label's directors Tola Odunsi admits that Naeto has had his own record label Cerious Music for a while but is still with Storm.
Naeto joined Storm Records in 2006, returning from the US where he had already formed a rap group with close friend Ikechukwu and his younger brother Uzikwendu called 'World Famous Akademy'. With the smash hit single 'Kini big deal',
he released his debut album 'You Know my P' in 2008; parted ways with Ikechukwu who left Strorm in 2010 and then released a successful second album 'Super C Season' in February 2011.

Storm Records headed by Obi Asika and Olisa
Adibua (the pair are currently in a legal battle) have in the past signed an impressive long list of acts including Jazzman Olofin, Darey, GT the Guitarman, 2shotz, General Pype. They currently have on their roaster rappers Sasha, Yung6ix, Pop singer Ms Jaie, Urban-Pop group L.O.S and gospel singer Tosin Martins.
