Owner of Abuja’s Wonderland Amusement Park, Amigo Supermarket linked to terrorism
Nigerian security agencies have linked a co-owner
of two major ongoing businesses in the nation's
capital as a ring leader in a major terrorist
operation in the country.
In a statement by the spokesman of the Joint Task
Force in Kano, Ikedichi Iweha, Fauzi Fawad, the
co-owner of Amigo Supermarket and Wonderland
Amusement Park, was named as a member of a
Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist cell in Nigeria.
Wonderland is Abuja's biggest and most popular
amusement park, while Amigo is one of the largest
supermarkets in the Nigerian capital.
The JTF said Mr. Fawad's name was mentioned by
"all those arrested," for being in possession of
heavy weapons, and other terrorism related
activities.
Mr. Fawad is now on the run, the JTF said.
The JTF said it arrested three Lebanese suspected
of owning the large cache of arms recovered at a
bunker in the city.
The Brigade Commander, 3rd Brigade, Nigerian
Army, Iliyasu Abba, said one of the suspects was
arrested on Tuesday at a house on Gaya Road in
Bompai area of Kano.
He said another suspect was arrested in Abuja
while the third suspect was apprehended since
May 16, at Aminu Kano International Airport, on
his way to Beirut, Lebanon.
"The one arrested at Malam Aminu Kano
International Airport had a sum of 60,000 US
dollars in his possession".
He said one Abdullahi Hassan Tahir Padalla, who
was the owner of the house in which one of the
suspect was arrested was still at large.
Mr. Abba said among the weapons discovered
during the operation on Tuesday were 17 AK 47
rifles, 44 magazines, four land mines and 12 RPG
bombs, 14 RPG charger, 11 66 mm anti-tanks
weapons, one SMG magazine, one pistol and
magazine.
Also, 11, 433 rounds of 7.26 mm special, 76 hand
grenade, rocket propelled guns, 122 calibre artillery
and anti mines weapons were recovered.
"What you are seeing here are weapons of mass
destruction in terms of our situation here right
now in Nigerian.
"If these things have been brought out only God
knows the type of destruction they will cause to
innocent persons in the state or in the country,'' he
said.
He said the Department of State Security Service
(SSS) in Abuja had been investigating the case for
long.
In a remark, the state Director of the SSS, Bassey
Ettang, said that the three suspects had a link to
the Hezbollah group in Lebanon.
He said the suspects have for a long time been
using the bunker in the house to stockpile arms
and ammunition.
He restated the commitment of the SSS and other
security agencies to continue with the ongoing war
on criminals nationwide.

Brazil Unveil New Jersey
It is a jersey that is in contrast with the
tradition. The Seleção will be in black!
This is the revolution brought by Nike. The third
jersey of the national football team of Brazil
contains no color of the Brazilian flag. In
launching this new design, the brand with the
famous comma wants to make of this jersey an
outfit that fans of the national team will wear
every day.We must go back to 1950 World Cup to
see Brazil evolve in black.
Other breach of tradition brought by Nike the
logo of the federation (CBF). Usually, on the
front of the jersey, it is now placed on the
sleeves.
The New Jersey will not be worn by Brazil in the
Confederations Cup. And because only the
national colors are permitted by the federation
for the matches of the national team at home.

Ombatse Killers Must Be Punished – Buhari
Below is what General Muhammadu
Buhari has to say about the Ombatse cult
killing:
"The
SSS
boss or
whoever that said he has left everything to God
has no right to do that. Constitutionally,
Nigerians can practice any religion they want or
even if they don't want, they can be atheist or
anything they want to be, that is constitutional.
But nobody should hurt a citizen of Nigeria and
then get away with it, not to talk of slaughtering
at least 56 law enforcement agents and then
somebody coming out from the system and said
such a thing. It is either that person doesn't
know what he was talking about or he shouldn't
even be there.
"I'm even against the people that are suggesting
that the cult ritual places be destroyed.
According to the constitution, you will allow
them to go about with their activities as long as
they don't go against the constitution.
But those that killed the 56 security men must
be hunted and prosecuted no matter how long it
will take because this is the bottom line about
law and order, and security in the country.
They can't be forgiven, they can't override the
constitution, Nigerians are being hurt and killed
in their duties and those that killed them must
be brought before the law", Buhari said..

Dana Plane Crash: 30% Of Claims Paid To Families – FG
The Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, on
Thursday said that legal tussle and lack of proper
documentation from the families of the Dana
plane crash victims delayed the payment of
compensation.
Ms. Oduah spoke at the 2013 Aviation Safety
Week in Abuja.
She said there was speedy process to ensure that
all the families of the victim of the June 3, 2013
crash got their claims. She said that the Nigerian
Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, was working
with the airline on the compensation, adding
that some families had been paid.
The minister said that the airline had paid more
than 30 per cent of the claims. She said that the
ministry and other stakeholders would not rest
until every claim was verified and all families
fully compensated in accordance with the law
and existing regulations.
Ms. Oduah said stakeholders had been working
round the clock to ensure the timely payment of
the claims to the families. She said Lagos State
granted waivers on the mandatory requirements
for the processing of claims to lighten the
burden of bereaved family members.
The Dana air mishap of June 3, 2012, claimed
the lives of 153 people on board the aircraft as
well as about 10 victims on the ground.
Ms. Oduah said that the Accident Investigation
and Prevention Bureau, AIPB, would soon
release the final report of the cause of the crash.
She said that the Federal Government would
erect a memorial cenotaph at the Nnamdi
Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to
commemorate the first anniversary of the
incident.
Ms. Oduah said the ministry had implemented
the recommendations by the Technical and
Administrative Review Panel on Domestic
Airlines, TARPDA.
TARPDA was set up by President Goodluck
Jonathan to investigate the cause of the plane
crash and advised the government on ways to
curb future occurrence.
The Special Adviser to the President on Aviation
Reform, Ann Ene-Ita, said safety is paramount
to the industry. She said that the government
would not relent on ensuring that aviation
achieved safety in Nigeria.
All the heads of agencies under the ministry also
promised to keep working on the safety in the
industry.
They include Anthony Anuforom of the Nigerian
Meteorological Agency, NIMET; Acting Director-
General, NCAA, Joyce Nkemakolam and the
Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace
Management Agency, NAMA, Nnamani Udoh.

Teachers Begin Strike In 11 States
Nigeria Union of Teachers on Thursday
urged teachers in 11 states to embark on
strike from June 1 (Saturday).
The teachers are protesting against the non-
payment of their 27.5 per cent enhanced salary scale and N18,000 minimum wages.
The states are Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Ogun,
Edo, Kogi, Niger, Borno, Benue, Zamfara and
Sokoto.
Rising from a meeting in Abuja, the leadership
of the union said the affected teachers would
embark on what it called "painful strike."
Addressing reporters in Abuja, the NUT
President, Mr. Michael Olukoya, vowed that the
strike would continue until the authorities met
the union's demands.
Describing the action of governors of the
affected states as "derelict, unpatriotic and self-
serving", Olukoya said they had denied their
teachers genuine allowances.
Olukoya lamented that while there was
implementation of minimum wages for other
categories of workers, the defaulting states
deliberately exempted teachers.

“The President Knows He Has Failed Nigerians” – Opposition
Opposition parties have dismissed
President Goodluck Jonathan's
assessment of his administration in the
last two years, saying the President has
not performed.
But the ACN, in a statement in Ibadan, on
Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary,
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, reminded the President
that it was not the business of the opposition to
spoon-feed his administration on how to
govern. They also said that Nigerians did not
need a marking scheme to assess the Jonathan
administration.
"Mr. President, Nigerians need no marking
scheme to know that the rate of unemployment
went up, under your watch, to an unprecedented
23.9% by December 2011, according to figures
given by the National Bureau of Statistics. Today,
the figure must be hovering above the 50%
mark!
"Mr. President, what marking scheme does one
need to know that despite the seemingly
impressive economic figures being reeled out by
your administration, the average Nigerian is
worse off today than he or she was before you
assumed office?"
The ACN said the Washington-based global
advocacy and campaigning organisation, ONE,
listed Nigeria, under President Jonathan, and
Democratic Republic of Congo among "laggard
countries'' pulling Africa back from reaching the
MDG goals by 2015.
"This global body did not use any 'Jonathan-style
marking scheme' to name Uganda, Rwanda,
Malawi, Ghana and Ethiopia as the top
performing countries in Africa (on the MDGs),
even when they are less endowed than Nigeria."
The party said it would not have wasted its
energy on commenting on the mid-term
performance record of the Jonathan
administration, had the President not
disingenuously decided to blame imaginary
enemies of his administration for his token
achievements in the face of mounting challenges
facing the country.
It said, "Mr. President, it is never too late for you
to put your shoulder to the wheel, shun the
political jobbers around you, reinvigorate your
cabinet by chasing away the deadwood there –
though some of them come highly
recommended on paper – and giving Nigerians a
more purposeful governance.
"When that happens, you will not need to waste
valuable time on lecturing your much-sapped
compatriots on how to assess your
administration, and you would have succeeded
in rending those seemingly implacable critics of
yours in the media and the opposition jobless."
Also, the ANPP, which reacted through its
spokesman, Emma Eneukwu, said it was not
impressed by Jonathan's assessment.
It said that it had gone out of its way to proffer
solutions to the myriad of problems facing the
country, out of sheer patriotism.
"Needless to say that such suggestions from us
and other well-meaning groups and individuals
have been so arrogantly ignored by the
administration,'' it said.
The party wondered why Jonathan was suddenly
irritated that Nigerians had not given his
administration a pass mark, after about three
years in office.
It said that after being bashed by Nigerians for
non-performance he had to encourage himself
by becoming the exam setter and marker.
The ANPP said, "Performance is like a pregnancy
that cannot be hidden. Where did he perform? Is
it power, security, job creation, corruption or
other infrastructural developments?
"The President knows he has failed Nigerians.
Note that it is non- performance of the President
that pushed him to aggression and fighting
imaginary enemies. A performing President
moves with air of confidence knowing that the
people are on his side."
But the Presidency described the statements
credited to the opposition political parties on the
mid-term performance of Jonathan as reckless
and irresponsible.
Special Adviser to the President on Political
Matters, Dr. Ahmed Gulak, said contrary to the
position of the opposition parties, Jonathan had
achieved so much in the two years of his
administration.
Gulak said, "The ANPP, ACN, Congress for
Progressive Change and other political parties
are just making statements that are reckless and
irresponsible.
"Have governors of ACN, CPC or ANPP states
presented mid-term report to the people of their
states? The answer is no.
"This is the first time in history that a President
will present his mid-term report to the people of
the country. He told Nigerians in clear terms
what he has done in the last two years.
"President Jonathan's achievements are facts
and verifiable. They are there for all to see, they
are not rhetoric.
"Nigerians should be the ones to be talking and
not the ACN and others that will never see
anything good in this administration. That was
why he said Nigerians who want to assess him
should design their marking scheme."
President Goodluck Jonathan's
assessment of his administration in the
last two years, saying the President has
not performed.
But the ACN, in a statement in Ibadan, on
Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary,
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, reminded the President
that it was not the business of the opposition to
spoon-feed his administration on how to
govern. They also said that Nigerians did not
need a marking scheme to assess the Jonathan
administration.
"Mr. President, Nigerians need no marking
scheme to know that the rate of unemployment
went up, under your watch, to an unprecedented
23.9% by December 2011, according to figures
given by the National Bureau of Statistics. Today,
the figure must be hovering above the 50%
mark!
"Mr. President, what marking scheme does one
need to know that despite the seemingly
impressive economic figures being reeled out by
your administration, the average Nigerian is
worse off today than he or she was before you
assumed office?"
The ACN said the Washington-based global
advocacy and campaigning organisation, ONE,
listed Nigeria, under President Jonathan, and
Democratic Republic of Congo among "laggard
countries'' pulling Africa back from reaching the
MDG goals by 2015.
"This global body did not use any 'Jonathan-style
marking scheme' to name Uganda, Rwanda,
Malawi, Ghana and Ethiopia as the top
performing countries in Africa (on the MDGs),
even when they are less endowed than Nigeria."
The party said it would not have wasted its
energy on commenting on the mid-term
performance record of the Jonathan
administration, had the President not
disingenuously decided to blame imaginary
enemies of his administration for his token
achievements in the face of mounting challenges
facing the country.

Impeaching Amaechi won’t guarantee Jonathan’s re-election – Esogban of Benin
The Esogban of Benin Kingdom and
chairman of Benin Forum, Chief David
Edebiri, yesterday, said that impeaching
Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State,
will not guarantee a second term ticket for
President Goodluck Jonathan.
He urged the President to give the people the dividends of democracy by ensuring steady power, industrialisation and tackle security challenges, rather than fight political battles with governors over 2015 presidential election.
The elder statesman, who disagreed with the
assertion by President Jonathan that his
administration had performed creditably well,
said: "I am not totally in agreement that
democracy is already here in Nigeria.
We are working towards achieving true
democracy but it has really not come. A typical
example of that is the current issue of the
election of Nigeria Governors Forum, where 35
people met to elect one man and the aftermath
now is a disputation as to what happened and
what did not happen.
"I think if the President wants to come back as
President, he does not need all the current
rigmarole that is going on. Let him give the
Nigerians good governance. Let him make
Nigeria one of the countries of the world where
electricity is constant."

CAN Laments Renewed Killing Of Christians Despite Emergency Rule
Despite the emergency rule imposed by
President Goodluck Jonathan, Christians are
still being killed in the North by Boko Haram
members, Christian Association of Nigeria
alleged on Thursday.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media
and Public Affairs, Mr. Kenny Ashaka, CAN
President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor said, "Last
Friday, for instance, an executive member of
CAN in Gwoza Local Government, Rev. Luka
Bazigila and a member of the COCIN Church,
Yohanna, both of who were in attendance at a
Christian fellowship were shot dead by gunmen,
who mounted a tricycle.
"Members of the sect also killed the step mother
of the Medical Director of the Borno State
Hospital, when they could not find the doctor at
home. A Muslim guard, employed by a Christian
architect in Abuja, was mistaken for a Christian
and shot dead. One COCIN member on the
Mandara Mountain was burnt by members of
Boko Haram on Sunday morning."
While he commiserated with the families of the
victims of the renewed killings, the CAN
President called on Christians to pray for peace
and unity of Nigeria as well as an end to the
insecurity on Friday (today).
"In the light of a recent statement that the
military recovered a document containing the
names of Boko Haram sponsors, I call on the
Federal Government to expose the sponsors
now. I believe that such exposition will go a long
way in the fight against Boko Haram and serve
as a deterrent to others who might want to tow
the same line," Oritsejafor said.

This US Blood Donor Has Given 100 Gallons In 35 Years
A man in Florida has reached a rare milestone
after donating 100 gallons of blood over the last
35 years.
Harold Mendenhall, 84, started giving blood on
July 7, 1977, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Last month, he reached 100 US gallons (83
imperial gallons or 666 pints).
Mr Mendenhall started giving blood when his
wife Frankie was diagnosed with chest cancer.
When she died seven years later, Mr Mendenhall
says he was lost.
He stopped by the blood bank on his way home
from work and was soon donating up to 40 pints
a year.
He said giving blood helped him cope with the
loss of his wife and, later, his two sons.
"For some reason, I'm still here and I'm
grateful," he said. "That's one of the reasons I
keep donating."
Mr Mendenhall is especially coveted because he
donates blood platelets – small cells in the blood
which help with clotting.
As well as saving the lives of others, there are
financial benefits for donors in Florida.
The local blood bank runs a reward programme,
offering coupons for meals at restaurants.

JTF Uncovers Lebanese Terror Cell In Kano
A Lebanon-based Hezbollah armoury and terror
cell has been uncovered in Bompai, Kano State,
the Joint Task Force said on Thursday.
A large cache of arms and ammunition were
recovered and three persons were arrested in
connection with the armoury and the cell.
A Lebanese national currently out of the country
reportedly owns the premises where the
armoury and the cell were found at No 3, Gaya
Road, Off Bompai Road in the ancient city.
A statement by the JTF spokesman, Captain
Ikedichi Iweha, said the JTF operatives,
comprising officials of the 3rd Army Brigade in
Kano and the State Security Service conducted
the operations.
The operatives, he said, uncovered an
underground bunker in the premises where large
quantities of assorted weapons were hidden.
Iweha, who said the construction of the bunker
was special, listed anti-tank weapons, rocket
propelled guns and anti-tank/personnel mines
as some of the dangerous weapons found in the
premises.
He added that the weapons and ammunition
were concealed in coolers, drums and bags.
According to him, the latest recovery followed an
ongoing robust counter-terrorism investigation
by the SSS.
Confirming the existence of a Hezbollah cell in
the country, Iweha noted that the SSS had
arrested one Mustapha Fawaz, co-owner of
Amigo Supermarket and the Wonderland
Amusement Park, in Abuja.
The arrest of Fawaz, Iweha said, led to the arrest
of another Lebanese terror suspect, Abdullah
Tahini, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International
Airport with over $60,000.
He added, "Thereafter on May 26, 2013, one
Talal Roda, also a Lebanese with a Nigerian
Passport, was arrested in the same house.
"All those arrested have confessed to have
undergone Hezbollah Terrorist Training and
further implicated one Fauzi Fawad, also a co-
owner of Amigo Supermarket and Wonderland
Amusement Park."
In his reaction, Director of Defence Information,
Brig. Gen. Chris Olukolade described the
discovery of the arms and the arrest of the
Lebanese importers as "a major breakthrough."
The action of the JTF operatives, he said
demonstrated the commitment of security
agencies to ridding the country of illegal arms.
Meanwhile, the SSS said the weapons were
intended for use against "Israeli and Western
interests".
"This is the handwork of Hezbollah," Bassey
Ettang, director of the SSS said in Kano.
"You can also be sure that if a group like this is
existing, then it may even lend support to some
of the local terrorists we have on the ground."

United States to be a terrorist organisation.

Osun Will Never Again Have To Worry About Flooding – Aregbesola Rauf
Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has
assured the residents of the state that flood will
never again be a problem in the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of free surgical
mission by his administration on Thursday in
Iwo, Aregbesola said proactive measures had
been taken to check flooding and ensure the
bitter experience of three years ago does not
happen again.
He recalled that shortly before his
administration came into power in 2010, flood
had wrecked havoc in Osun, stressing that
widening and channelisation of rivers, streams
and canals by his administration stopped its
recurrence.
"Osun will never experience flooding again.
What we have done is comprehensive. It is a
solution to flooding. We took our time in
desilting our waterways and clearing of
drainages," Aregbesola said.
"Shortly before we came into power, there was
massive flooding, which swept people away. We
have decided and taken action that this shall
never happen in Osun again. Since we came on
board, Osun has never witnessed flooding."
Aregbesola said apart from the obvious havoc
caused by flooding, flooding also has the
potential of spreading water-borne diseases
across the state.

NAFDAC Parades Generator, Phone Dealers Nabbed For Importation Of Fake Drugs Worth N40m
The National Agency for Food and Drug
Administration and Control, NAFDAC, on
Thursday paraded a generator dealer, Celestine
Eruokwu, and three others, Paul Ogbonna,
Ifeanyi Edeh and Ozoemena Odo, for importing
fake drugs worth N9m.
According to the Director General of the agency,
Dr. Paul Orhii, some other fake drugs were also
recovered at the cargo shed, NAHCO, Murtala
Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,
bringing the total value of all the seized goods to
N59.3m.
"Based on an intelligence report that Eruokwu
was in possession of fake Maloxine tablets, we
raided his house at 77 Mosafejo Street, Suru-
Alaba, Lagos, where we recovered 90,000 doses
of Maloxine tablets with market value of over
N9m," Orhii said.
Investigations revealed that Eruokwu was a
generator dealer and had a shop at Idumota area
of Lagos state.
"He confessed that he imported the product
from China and that they are fake. Recent
findings indicate that counterfeiters of medicine
now hide under the shadows of other businesses
to carry out their nefarious activities."
Another suspect, Odo, who is a mobile telephone
dealer, allegedly imported N31m worth of fake
drugs but declared them as telephone
accessories. He also imported empty packets of
the drugs.
His cover was however blown when the goods
were inspected.
"During routine inspection at NAHCO, our men
intercepted some packages of pharmaceutical
products declared as mobile phone accessories.
The clearing agent was arrested and he led
investigators to apprehend Ozoemena Odo, who
came to receive the consignment on behalf of
the owners who are based in Onitsha," Orhii
said.
"He was however unable to give us useful
information about the owners of the
consignment. Some of the drugs were 30,000
sachets of Regretone tablets which is for treating
hypertension; 10,000 packaging materials of the
same ddrug, 12,000 packs of Postinor tablets as
well as Artesunate packaging materials.
"The counterfeit medicines have an estimated
market value of N31.5m".
Orhii said counterfeiters had continued to devise
new means of importing drugs. He said because
counterfeiters had noticed that Customs officials
hardly informed NAFDAC of importation which
does not involve drugs, criminals had started
stuffing drugs in imported vehicles and other
goods.
"We have observed that the current trend now is
to import packaging materials of popular and
fast-moving drugs such as antibiotics,
injectables and anti-malaria drugs with the
intention of putting in fake products.
"Also, most of these drugs are brought as
unaccompanied cargo and concealed as general
commodities and it takes the extra effort of our
officers to detect them.
"We are intensifying our surveillance and
monitoring activities daily to ensure fake and
unwholesome products do not enter our country
at will," Orhii said.

Wife Catches Husband Red-Handed Sleeping With Their Housegirl
A wife who has been hearing stories around
that her husband was enjoying himself with
their house maid got the shock of her life
recently as she caught them red handed after
setting a trap for the two secret lovers.
The source who sent the story to TON said the wife
pretend that she was going to her shop and sent the
the maid in her husband's presence to go to the
market and buy foodstuff. The maid took the
money and immediately her husband got up and
walked out, saying he's taking a walk...
The woman drove out of the compound with the
maid and dropped her at the junction where she
would take a bike to the market. She sighted her
husband hiding at a corner but pretended she didn't
see him. She drove away, parked her car about 200
meters away and walked back to the house.
She entered their sitting room, nothing. Her
husband's bedroom, nothing. Their kids room,
nothing. It then dawned on her that her shameless
husband might be doing the "thing" at the house
maid's room. True to her suspicion, the wife caught
her husband "very busy" on top the maid.
Funny enough, sources say the wife has discovered
that the young girl is already pregnant for her
husband and the man is now saying he will marry
her as his second wife. The wife is devastated!
The incident was said to have happened in a Lagos
suburb but the woman's husband is a rich guy.

EFCC Arrest University Don Over $48, 500 Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, Monday, arraigned a
senior lecturer at the Ambrose Ali

Obekpa Abah before an Abuja High Court.
Abah was docked on a two count criminal charge

He was said to have between August 2008 and
March 2009, obtained the sum of $ 48,500 from
one Udeh Orokpo Godwin under the guise of
setting up a joint company but diverted the funds
to personal use.
The offence according to the EFCC is contrary to

section 312 of the same Code
However, the accused person pleaded not guilty to
the charge.
The defence counsel, Abel C Ozioko told the court
that the EFCC had previously granted
administrative bail to the accused person on self
recognition.
Stressing that it was his client voluntarily
submitted himself for trial yesterday, Ozioko, urged
the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.
Nevertheless, the prosecution counsel Mr Sukuji
Bandawa opposed the bail application on the
grounds that he was just served with the bail
application and would need time to respond.
Consequently, Justice Olasumbo Olarenwaju
Goodluck adjourned ruling on the bail application
to June 4, just as he fixed July 11 and 16 for
commencement of trial.

Nasarawa SSS Director Removed, Reportedly over Ombatse Killings
There have been indications last night that the
Nasarawa State Director of the State Security
Service (SSS), Mr. Halilu Musa, has been relieved of
his duty post, the Leadership reports.
Details od the removal are still limited, but the
Leadership found out that Musa's removal might
not be unconnected with the brutal killings of 10
SSS operatives and about 90 policemen by the
Ombatse cult on May 9, 2013, in Alakyo Village
near the state capital, Lafia.
The leader of the cult group, Baba Alakyo, had
claimed in an interview that he did carry out the
killings, but that the operatives were killed by his
"god".
The SSS had recently organised a candlelight
procession in Abuja in honour of the 10 slain SSS
operatives during which the director-general of the
agency, Mr Ita Ekpeyong, said that the service had
forgiven the cult group.
Based on its source's informtion, the Leadership
further reports that the service was unable to come
to terms with the fact that Musa could allow the
security operatives to embark on such a dangerous
mission to Alakyo Village without adequate
surveillance and intelligence gathering. He was also
said to have released the operatives for the mission
without seeking all the necessary clearance from
the agency's top hierarchy.
The source added that the massacre of the
operatives could have been avoided had adequate
operational measures been taken to forestall any
such eventuality. It was further gathered that the
SSS was of the opinion that there was the need for
the service to put in place adequate back-up for the
operatives before the commencement of the
exercise so as to prevent any unforeseen situation
where the operatives would be exposed to avoidable
danger.

The policemen were alleged to have been shot by
the violent youths who invaded the Oba's palace.
Police have arrested 47 persons in connection
with the crisis, while the Divisional Police
Officer, DPO, of Ile Oluji is also said to be
hospitalised following the injury he sustained
while trying to quell the crisis.
This is coming as the state government
yesterday set up a judicial commission of
enquiry to probe the violence that led to the
death of three persons.
According to the Secretary to the State
Government, SSG, Dr. Rotimi Adelola, the
Judicial Commission of Inquiry is to look into
the recent disturbances and crises in Ile Oluji/
Oke Igbo Local Government of Ondo State,
especially the disturbance of May 27 and 28,
2013 and/or any similar disturbance in Ile Oluji.
The commission has Justice Nelson Adeyanju as
Chairman, Mr. Ajose Kudehinbu, Chief
Olugbenga Ale as members and Mr. Fredrick
Oye as Secretary
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry is to
"recommend appropriate sanction, take stock of
the losses or damages occasioned during the
crises, make appropriate recommendations to
government on the subject of the terms of
references or any other matter connected with
the crises."
The Commission of Inquiry which has 14 days to
submit its findings is to be inaugurated today, at
the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor's
Office.
Also, the governor, Dr Mimiko yesterday, at a
Democracy Day lecture said the crisis in Ile Oluji
has some undertone and has nothing to do with
the citing of a Federal institution in the area.
He confirmed that a policeman who was shot by
the youths was operated upon at OAUTH in Ile
Ife, yesterday.
Meantime, soldiers from the 323 Artillery
Regiment in the state have been deployed to the
troubled town to compliment the efforts of the
policemen.
Also, the palace of the Oba was said to have been
vandalised by the irate youths.
There was partial curfew in the town yesterday
as both commercial and social activities were
completely paralysed following the violence in
the town.
Police sources said that the youths picked up
have started fingering their sponsors and are
being detained at the state SIIB in Akure.
Reports said that the Oba has returned to the
palace and he is under police protective custody.
The Ondo State Government in a statement on
the crisis signed by the Chief Press Secretary to
the governor, Eni Akinsola, said there was no
truth about a Polytechnic in Ile Oluji as
rumoured by some people in the community, a
rumour that resulted into a violent protest in the
week.
Akinsola said: "The state is not contemplating a
new polytechnic now as it is busy repositioning
its two universities in Okitipupa and Akungba
and the polytechnic in Owo.
"We have also found out that the federal
government has also not decided on citing any
higher institution in the state now. We are
therefore shocked to hear that the crisis is linked
to a rumoured location of a polytechnic to and
away from the town."

The Grandfather Who Sells Human Head For N1000 Arrested
The Lagos State Police Command has
arrested a grandfather, Mr. Segun Kayode,
for allegedly exhuming and selling human
parts.
According to the police, the suspect, who works
at a cemetery in Epe area of the state, was
arrested with a human skull.
Police sources said the suspect sold human parts
for a living, adding that he had become notorious
in the area for selling human parts.
It was learnt that the suspect was arrested
following a report by a resident who saw him
displaying a skull for sale.
The grandfather, who could not give his exact
age, said he started selling human parts because
he was poor and jobless.
He said, "I live at 2,Tungbehin Street, Epe. I have
two children and I am a grandfather. I have
always been poor all my life because I had no
formal or informal education. I used to be a
fisherman but when there were no longer fishes
in rivers in my area, I became a gardener at Epe
Local Government Secretariat
"About four years ago, the LG said they no
longer needed my services so I started trimming
grass at a cemetery in the area."
The suspect, who did not deny the allegations,
said there was nothing wrong in selling dead
people's parts since the dead never used them.
He said one day, while he was clearing weeds in
the cemetery, he noticed a human skull which
had been dug up.
He said, "Most times, when a corpse is not
buried with a coffin, the possibility of the corpse
resurfacing is very high. So, what workers at the
cemetery do is to gather some of the corpses and
burn them instead of burying them again.
"I realised that this was not a smart thing to do
since it would be better to make money from it.
The families of these dead people never care
about them once they are buried and weeds had
taken over the cemetery."
The suspect said he sold only two corpses while
he had on numerous occasions given them out
for free.
He said, "I have sold only two human heads. I
sold the first one for N1, 000 while I sold the
second one for N1, 500. Last week, a resident
approached me saying an herbalist needed the
head so I got a decomposed head, for him,
washed it and put it on a fence to dry.
"A resident saw me and raised the alarm and
that was how I was arrested."
PUNCH Metro had reported last week that five
people, including an herbalist, were arrested for
selling human parts.
A police source told one of our correspondents
that the trend was common in areas where
public cemeteries were situated.
"Areas which are not located in the metropolis
and have cemeteries have become the hideout
for cartels which specialise in sale of human
parts. We (police) have reason to believe that
some of these human parts dealers also engage
in ritual killing," he said.
The source added that efforts were going on to
arrest other human parts sellers in the area.
When contacted on the telephone, the
spokesperson for the state police command,
Ngozi Braide, confirmed Kayode's arrest. She
said he had been transferred to State Criminal
Investigation Department, Yaba.

Elechi Asks Nigerians To Stop Abusing Jonathan, Says It’s Abuse Of Freedom
Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi
yesterday asked Nigerians to watch the way they
abuse President Goodluck Jonathan, describing
the trend as threat to democracy.
Elechi, who was addressing people of the state at
the Democracy Day celebration held in
Abakaliki, spoke on "The imperative of freedom
in a Democracy,".
He said democracy did not give Nigerians the
freedom to abuse those in power.
He said: "It is regrettable that for some
uninformed or uncharitable minds, freedom has
degenerated to licentiousness both in utterance
and in behaviour, leading ultimately to
substantial abuse of freedom.
"The way the President is abused, forgetting the
dignity of his office and what he means to the
country, is a sad reminder that some of us do not
either know the meaning of freedom or have
forgotten the journey that brought us so far.
"Public institutions and offices, in so far as they
represent the public will, deserve to be respected
and, through constructive criticisms, be enabled
to flourish. This is our permanent task as
citizens of a freedom nation.
"There is also a backward slide in the display of
honesty as corruption is taking the centre stage
in public life."
Elechi, however, advised Nigerians to follow in
the foot steps of the nation's forefathers.
He said: "If, from a very harsh background and
from challenging beginning, our forefathers
laboured so honestly to bring us to where we are
today, then we of the present generation has no
excuse for a backward slide."
Elechi also announced that local government
council elections will hold in a few months' time
but added a warning, "Let our political gladiators
know that this administration will go any length
to ensure prevalence of peace borne out of the
imperative of the peoples' right to freedom."

Breaking News: Reps Order Immediate Suspension Of FG’s $40m Internet Surveillance Contract
The House of Representatives has ordered that a
$40 million (N6 billion) internet surveillance
contract awarded secretly by the Nigerian
government to an Israeli firm, be immediately
suspended.
In a resolution approved Thursday, the House
said no further action should be taken on the
controversial spy project, which has generated
widespread fury and condemnation, until three
of its committees complete an investigation in
three weeks.
The top secret project, was awarded by the
Jonathan administration to Elbit Systems, an
Israeli Info tech firm, to spy on millions of
Nigerian internet users; which is put at over 47
million. The move was viewed as an act of
desperation by a government which is
increasingly frustrated by the unrestrained use
of the internet to attack government officials and
policies.
But the authorities, who have maintained a
studied silence since the clandestine project
became public knowledge, passed it off as an
intelligence gathering effort in the face of
growing insecurity and fundamentalist threat.
In a motion moved by Ibrahim Gusau, the
House said the project will infringe on the
privacy of Nigerians and argued that the so-
called intelligence gathering, "may not be the
solution" to the nation's security woes.
The House also frowned at the secrecy
surrounding the contract award, which
lawmakers agreed contravened federal financial
regulations relating to contract awards, as
stipulated in the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.
Three committees, namely, Information and
Computer Technology, Human Rights, and
National Security, are to conduct inquiry into the
project and make its findings known in three
weeks.

lawmakers agreed contravened federal financial
regulations relating to contract awards, as
stipulated in the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.
Three committees, namely, Information and
Computer Technology, Human Rights, and
National Security, are to conduct inquiry into the
project and make its findings known in three
weeks.

“French Kiss” Finally Enters French Dictionary
For centuries, there's been no official French
word for the sloppy Gallic export "to French
kiss" — though that certainly hasn't stopped any
citizen from doing so.
Now the oversight has been rectified.
The one-word verb "galocher" — to kiss with
tongues — is among new entries added to the
"Petit Robert" 2014 French dictionary, which hit
the shops Thursday.
It may surprise many that France — a country
famed for its amorous exploits and which gave
the world s*x-symbol Brigitte Bardot, romantic
photographer Robert Doiseau and even scandal-
hit former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-
Kahn — is only just linguistically embracing the
popular pastime.
Yet Laurence Laporte of the Robert publishing
house says that it's just the way language
evolves.
"We always had many expressions to describe
'French-kissing,' like 'kissing at length in the
mouth,' but it's true, we've never had one single
word," she said.
The term "French kiss" — once also called a
"Florentine kiss" — is popularly considered to
have been brought back to the English-speaking
world by soldiers returning from Europe after
World War I. At the time, the French had a
reputation for more adventurous s*xual
practices.
Laporte said "galocher" was a slang term that's
been around for a while "but only now is it being
officially recognized in a French dictionary."
"La galoche" is an ice-skating boot, so the new
term riffs evocatively on the idea of sliding
around the ice.
The word expert added a caveat about the power
of language. The lack of a specific term "never
stopped us from doing it," Laporte noted.

lover used to visit their matrimonial
home.

Prevention Of Women From Presidential Office Is Violation Rights – UN
Some UN experts on Wednesday warned
that barring women and other citizens
from contesting for presidential office in
Iran constituted a violation of their rights
as guaranteed by international law.
Last week, Iran's Guardian Council, a 12-member body of theologians and jurists which vets presidential candidates, approved only eight individuals out of the 686
people registered for the June 14 election.
The 30 female candidates that applied were
disqualified as well as other key political figures,
raising concerns about the fairness and
transparency of the vetting procedures.
This mass disqualification, including that of
women wishing to stand in the presidential
elections, is discriminatory and violates
fundamental right to political participation and
runs contrary to the International Covenant on
Civil and Political Rights, which Iran has ratified.
Any restrictions on this right must be based on
objective and reasonable criteria without
distinction of any kind, including race, gender,
religion, and political or other opinion," the
Special Rapporteur on the situation of human
rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed.
Shaheed said that several candidates were
reportedly excluded on the basis of their
affiliation with the 2009 post-election protests
and their exercise of fundamental human rights,
including the rights to freedom of expression,
assembly and association.
Kamala Chandrakirana, Head of the UN Working
Group on Discrimination against Women, said
excluding women from eligibility to presidential
office "will exacerbate their already existing
severe under representation in public, political
and professional life".
The Special Rapporteur on Violence Against
Women, Rashida Manjoo, said Iran must ensure
women's participation in public affairs, including
the political sphere, through special measures to
help eradicate discrimination and violence
against women.
The experts also urged the government to lift
restrictions to freedom of expression and
association.

Father Of 3 Commits Suicide After sack In Benin
A father of three, who was identified as

suicide, yesterday, in Benin after he was
allegedly sacked from the transport company
where he worked.
His dangling body was found in the roof of the

children but that he told them he had a wife and
three kids somewhere.
According to them, "we saw him this morning. He
said he was sacked and we later found him dead in

Democracy Day: Borno Plans to Build 100,000 Free Houses to Rural Residents
As Nigeria celebrates her 14th
Democracy Day under the Third
Republic, the Borno Government on
Wednesday promised to build and deliver
100,000 houses free to its rural residents.
Commenting on the free houses, the Borno
Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Youths
Empowerment, Zainab Gimba, said in Maiduguri
that the houses would be given to villagers across
the state to enhance their living condition.
Ms. Gimba explained that the houses would be
constructed across the 27 local government areas of

"Our target is to construct 100,000 block of houses
for rural dwellers across the state to provide them
with decent accommodation.
"The houses will replace thatched houses currently
being used by the villagers," she said.
The commissioner added that construction work
had already commenced in some locations.
"We have started work in some areas like Damasak
headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area,
where about 75 out of the expected 750 houses had
been completed.
"We are also mobilising to site in some other
locations," she said.
Ms. Gimba said that the objective was to provide
democratic dividends to the people as well as
prevent yearly fire disasters associated with
thatched houses. She said that government had also
employed about 30,000 unemployed youths to
produce red blocks for the construction work.
"We have employed about 30,000 youths as
labourers to produce blocks for the houses.
"This is in addition to about 25,000 youths engaged
in the massive production of interlocking blocks for
the beautification of the state capital," she said.
She said that the state government had been able to
reduce poverty by about 30 per cent among youth
and women in the state through its various
empowerment programmes.
Meanwhile, to mark the day, the Jigawa
Government announced that it recruited 4,414
teachers in the last six years.
The state Commissioner for Education, Haruna
Wakili, said that the recruitment was one of the
major achievements of Gov. Sule Lamido's
administration.
Mr. Wakili explained that 2,927 teachers were
employed to teach in primary schools, while 1,487
others were engaged in secondary schools. He said
that the percentage of unqualified teachers at basic
level had dropped from 74 per cent in 2007 to 42
per cent in 2012. He stated that the present
administration was committed to ensuring that all
teachers in primary and secondary schools were
qualified.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the National Union
of Teachers in Jigawa, Usman Ya'u, lauded

transformation in the education sector, especially
primary schools.
Mr. Ya'u explained that the present government
had built and renovated primary schools and also

automated gasoline oil, AGO, from Lagos to Eket,
when they were abducted at 9pm.
Sources said that relevant security agencies in
Bayelsa State and Warri in Delta State, had been
informed of the incident.
The source added that the company had begun
negotiation with the abductors, but that details of
negotiations with the company on ransom were not
disclosed.
Don’t Join Others To Pull President Down, Uduaghan Urges Deltans
Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel
Uduaghan, yesterday, advised people of the
South-South region to stop criticising
President Goodluck Jonathan publicly.
He said that as a son of the region, the
president should be given the support to
enable him succeed, noting that "politics in
Nigeria is still very regional."
The governor, at a luncheon to mark this year's
Democracy Day in, Asaba, after commissioning a
number of projects, told the gathering that he was
on course in realising his three-point agenda before
the end of his tenure.
He said: "I need to say that the South-South, to
which Delta State belongs, has produced the
President, Dr. Jonathan. He is the first President
from the region and I want to remind us that he
was the Vice President, when President Umaru
Yar'Adua died. Of course, he became the President
and just before he could find his feet as President,
there was an election in which he took part and
eventually became the President.
"Today, Jonathan has effectively become the
President of Nigeria. We will not forget that. I am
emphasising this because people compare his two
years to eight years spent by other presidents. He
has just spent two years in office and a lot has
happened. I am sure many of you must have
listened to his mid-term report today (yesterday). It
is full in the areas of power, roads, airports. And so,
because he is our son, we must give him maximum
support.
"As a state government, we are giving him
maximum support and I am urging all of us from
Delta State to give him the support to succeed
because the politics of Nigeria is still very regional.
Every region is struggling for its interest. No other
region is struggling for your interest and we must
understand that. It is a game of interests."

Obasanjo, Buhari, Tambuwal, Others Shun Jonathan’s Event
KEY predecessors of President Goodluck
Jonathan in office, ex-President Olusegun
Obasanjo; and ex-dictators, retired Generals
Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Babangida,
and Abdusalami Abubakar (retd.), as well as
the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Aminu Tambuwal, on Wednesday shunned
the Democracy Day event of the Federal
Government.
While all former heads of government were
reportedly invited to the event where Jonathan
rendered an account of his mid-term performance,
only Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Gen. Yakubu Gowon
(retd.) and Chief Ernest Shonekan attended.
Gowon ruled as military head of state between 1966
and 1976; Shagari from 1979 to 1983; while
Shonekan spent barely 99 days in office as head of
the Interim National Government foisted on the
country by Babangida after the annulment of the
June 12, 1993 election won by the late
businessman, MKO Abiola.
Rather than be in Abuja, Obasanjo chose to attend
the First Jigawa State Investment Forum in Dutse,
where he showered praises on Governor Sule
Lamido for being a brilliant performer in whom he
(Obasanjo) was well pleased to have helped to
office.
"You can help someone to find a job but you can't
help the person to do the job. In this case, we found
a job for Sule Lamido and Sule Lamido was ready,
willing, able and competent to do the job," he
reportedly said at the event.
Obasanjo is believed to have facilitated the coming
of Jonathan to the Presidency in 2007 but the two
have reportedly become estranged.
Buhari, now one of the arrowheads of the coalition
to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 and
the Jonathan administration, had in recent past
exchanged hot words on the state of the nation.
Babangida contested the PDP Presidential ticket
with Jonathan in 2011 and he is generally seen not
as a fan of the administration.
Tambuwal was represented at the event by his
deputy, Emeka Ihedioha, who gave no reason for
the Speaker's absence.
Analysts on Wednesday believed that attendance
and non-attendance at the Democracy Day
celebration was "all part of the 2015 politics."
Meanwhile, Jonathan, while presenting his
scorecard for his second year in office, asked
Nigerians who are fond of criticising his
government to ensure they first develop their
marking scheme before assessing his
administration.
Before the President formally presented the report
of his two years in office, Vice- President Namadi
Sambo; the Secretary to the Government of the
Federation, Pius Anyim; Minister of National
Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman; and the
Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had
taken turns to present the achievements of the
administration in all sectors for the past two years.
"I plead with those who want to write and assess us
to prepare marking scheme, compare us with
previous governments and so on and so forth.
Develop your marking scheme and mark us,"
Jonathan said.
Jonathan said while assessing his government, he
had discovered that a number of comments of his
critics were "based on heartbeats and not any
visible criteria."
"A number of comments about the performance of
this administration are based on the heartbeat of
people," he said.
He specifically referred to an assessment done by
an unnamed newspaper which scored the Minister
of National Planning and the Minister of Trade and
Investment an average in terms of performance.
Jonathan said contrary to that assessment, the
performances of the two ministers remained the
best among the three ministers that had so far been
in charge of those ministries under his leadership.
On the Ministry of Trade and Investment, the
President said because of the hard work of Dr.
Olusegun Aganga, foreign investors had been
investing heavily in the country despite the security
challenges facing the nation and that until Usman
came on board, the Ministry of National Planning
had remained relatively not in existence.
Sambo had earlier in his welcome remarks said all
members of the Jonathan administration were
united in their aspiration to transform Nigeria to a
nation that would be respected worldwide.
He said the Democracy Day was not all about a
public holiday but a day to look inwards and give
account of stewardship, adding that was why the
administration was using the opportunity to give
account of its actions to the nation that gave them
the mandate to serve.
Sambo urged all Nigerians to join hands to build a
nation that would fulfil the promise of the past and
work for the good of the present and the future
generation.
He said constitutional and moral burdens were on
all of them in government to uphold democratic
tenets.
He said, "To whom much is given, much is
expected. We are grateful to the nation for the
mandate we received from the freest and fairest
election in recent time. The transformation agenda
is decided on those things that should be done to
reposition the country. In the last two years, we
have pursued a resolute course to widen the
political space.
"Our public institutions are being rebuilt. The
National Assembly is very vibrant, the judiciary is
truly independent. There is a general onsensus that
democracy and government in Nigeria are getting
better. We have laid a foundation of change in the
last two years.
"In the face of unprecedented security challenges,
the challenges call for caution from all of us.
Nobody should make political capital on the issue.
We seek your support and honest counsel in the
areas we can improve upon. A bright future
beckons on this land and its people. We assure
generations unborn of a nation that will meet their
needs."
Anyim said the mid-term report presented by the
President provided verifiable achievements of his
administration.
He said the administration had protected the rights
of citizens and the rule of law in its two years of
existence.
He scored the administration high in the expansion
of civic space, entrenchment of checks and
balances, sanitisation of electoral process, federal
character in appointments and anti-corruption
fight, among others.
Okonjo-Iweala, on her part, said the
administration's transformation agenda had been
tailored towards addressing some of the nation's
problems, including insufficient jobs, rising debt,
high recurrent expenditure and falling reserves,
among others.
She said in its two years, the administration had
made the economy strong, exchange rate stable,
and reduced inflation to 9.1 per cent from 12.4 per
cent in May 2011.
The minister said the Federal Government had
started retiring its past debts and changed waiver
and tariff policies from focusing on individuals
alone to the entire sector.
She added that the government hired 50 forensic
auditors to probe the fraud in the fuel subsidy
regime, adding that sanity had so far been restored
to the system.
She said following the audit, N14bn had been
recovered out of the N234bn diverted funds while
oil marketers had been reduced to 32, making it
easier for government to monitor them.
"The contributory pension scheme is sound and it is
being reformed to prevent fraud. Nigeria's credit
rating has improved. International investors are
investing more in Nigeria. Our banks are strong and
the stock market is also strong with stock exchange
index rising to 71 per cent," she said.
Okonjo-Iweala said the administration had done
well in the areas of rail rehabilitation, inland ports
construction and the overhauling of airports.
The Founder/President, Rainbow PUSH Coalition,
Rev. Jesse Jackson, observed that leadership was
not just about winning elections but about
transforming the people.
He urged Nigeria to continue to deepen its
democracy because the nation mattered to the
international community.
He urged Nigerian leaders and followers to dream
big about the nation, saying their resources must
unite and not divide them.
"Nigeria must deepen democracy. Nigeria matters.
In peacekeeping around the world, Nigeria matters.
Dream, keep dreaming big. Dream Nigeria. Dream
of one Nigeria," he said.
Others who attended included wife of the President,
Patience; wife of the Vice- President, Amina;
former Chief of General Staff, Gen. Oladipo Diya
(retd.); President of the Senate, David Mark; Chief
Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Mukhtar; and
Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.
Others were the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the
Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih; the
party's national chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur;
former CJN, Justice Alfa Begore (retd.); elder
statesman, Chief J.P. Clark; members of the
National Assembly, former state governors,
including Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala (Oyo); Sam
Egwu (Ebonyi); Segun Oni (Ekiti); and members of
the Federal Executive Council, among others.
