School of Dental Technology in Enugu reads riot act to students over cultism

The Federal School of Dental Technology and
Therapy, Enugu, have warned newly admitted
students of the institution to distance
themselves from all forms of social vices,
especially cultism, examination malpractices,
drug abuse and homosexuality or face
rustication from the school.
Rector of the school, Dr. (Mrs), Kehinde
Sofoluwe, who read the riot act to the students
during the 23rd matriculation
ceremony of the institution in Enugu, said "the
institution frowns seriously at such
clandestine activities", stressing that anybody
apprehended would be expelled without
hesitation.
She said, "I urge you to keep away from
nocturnal or clandestine activities, say no to
examination malpractices, cultism,
prostitution, drug abuse, lesbianism,
homosexualism, and other abominable
activities, and examination malpractice is the
key to ought right failure".
Sofoluwe added that the Management was
totally committed towards ensuring that its
mission of strengthening the stewardship role
of the federal ministry of health in improving
national health was fully realized.
While assuring that the school
would live up to its responsibility of
inculcating good moral values in the new
intakes, the Rector, called on parents to assist
the institution in that regard, "because you
cannot train the mind alone and leave out the
morals", she insisted.
She explained that the mandate of the school
was to train students who would meet the
challenges "of our time and serve as positive
influence in the society", advising the
matriculants to always take their studies very
seriously.
The Rector had used the event to inform the
gathering that the proposed plan by the federal
government to upgrade the institution to a
degree awarding institution had reached an
advance stage, as the act had passed through
the 1st and 2nd readings as well as public
hearing at the National Assembly.
According to her, once the bill receives the
presidential assent, it would enable the school
gain access to the Tertiary Education Trust
Fund (TETFUND), which had been denied the
institution since inception its due to lack of an
act establishing it.
She stated that when fully upgraded, the
school would start awarding Bachelor of
Technology in Dental Therapy, adding that
post graduate Diploma certificate would also
be awarded.
