Pirates at the weekend, reportedly terrorized
passenger boats along the Sabatoru-Igweta-
Iwoama-Nembe route on the Nembe Creek in
the Bayelsa East senatorial district,
dispossessing them of their cash and other
valuables.
At least 10 passenger boats were raided by the
hoodlums who carted away some of the engines
leaving their victims stranded.
Reports have it that the Nembe-Brass
waterways in the East senatorial district had
become vulnerable to pirate attacks, worsening
the plight of commuters to the coastal enclave
as a result.
It was gathered that the victims who sailed from
the Ogbia jetty were travelling to Nembe for a
burial ceremony when they were attacked some
nautical miles from their destination.
Although the hoodlums went as far as pouring
fuel on some of their victims and threatening to
set them ablaze if they didn't let go of their
valuables, no life was lost in the attack.
