A convicted citizen of the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia (KSA) was beheaded on August 15,
2013, Thursday, for torturing his wife to
death. This was the first execution since the
end of the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan.
According to the local media reports, Fawzi al-
Khaibari had been found guilty of beating up
and burning his wife with an iron before
"crushing her skull" and leaving her to die, the
interior ministry said in a statement carried by
the official SPA news agency.
The execution took place the Holy Muslim city
of Medina, in the west of the KSA.
The previous execution in the conservative
country took place on July 8th, two days
before the start of Ramadan.
A total of 58 people have now been executed
in Saudi Arabia since the start of the year,
according to an AFP count.
In 2012, the KSA authorities executed 76
people, according to a tally based on official
figures. Human Rights Watch has put the
number at 69.
r*pe, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and
drug trafficking are all punishable by death
under Saudi Arabia's strict version of Sharia,
the Islamic law.
A young lawyer and politician has been
allegedly assaulted in an Abuja club.
Barr. Tony Ehilebo, was allegedly assaulted by
a bouncer at Klub Vaniti House Cubana on
Friday August 9th.
According to eye witnesses, Tony wanted to
enter the VVIP part of the club called the Gold
Room but was stopped by the bouncer
stationed outside the room. An arguement
ensued between the men and the young lawyer
was allegedly beat up.
His law firm is now instituting a N250 million
Damages Suit for Assault to person and Brand
Damage against the bouncer, Promise, who is
already wanted for questioning by the police.
Uyi and Lanre, managers at Klub Vaniti are
also joined in the suit.
