Tanker Fire In Ibadan Injures Five, Destroys Shops


A fuel tanker burst into flames at Orogun
junction in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, killing
three and injuring five persons. The deaths
however cannot be immediately confirmed.
Firemen who were called to the scene to
douse the flames were said to have rushed the
victims to the hospital. The firemen however,
denied reports that three persons died in the
incident.
Eyewitnesses said the fuel tanker caught fire
when the fuel it was carrying was being
transferred to another tanker.
Apart from the burnt tanker and injured
persons, about eight shops and two Sport
Utility Vehicles were also burnt.
The incident reportedly happened around 1
p.m.
Sources said vehicle owners who had parked
by the roadside were seen scrambling to get
to their cars to hurriedly evacuate their
vehicles.
