LG Vice-Chairman Arrested Over Alleged R*pe Of Widow In Ebonyi

The Vice-Chairman of Ikwo Local Government
Area of Ebonyi state, Mr. Sunday Ottah, was
on Monday arrested by the State Police
Command for an alleged complicity in the r*pe
of a widow councillor-elect and her two
daughters.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sylvester Igbo,
said the matter would be investigated and
could be charged to court if the allegations
were found to be true.
Although earlier reports dismissed claims the
widow was defiled, but there are now
indications not only her daughters were
molested by the hoodlums, but also Mrs
Margret Elom, who won the councillorship of
Ndiagu Achara ward 1 in Ikwo community. The
hoodlums were said to have been hired by the
council vice-chairman.
We reported earlier that the suspects also
stole the sum of N50, 000 and a Carter
motorcycle from their victims after molesting
the ladies.
Igbo explained that one of the suspects said
Ottah was behind their act, a development he
said Ottah had denied.
"One Hon. Margret Elom, the Councillor
representing Ndiagu Echara Ward I from Ikwo
Local Government Area reported that while she
was sleeping with her daughters that some
hoodlums broke into their house and stole the
sum of N50, 000 from her and collected one
Carter motorcycle valued at N120, 000 and
nine different mobile phones.
"And in the process of robbing her of her
belongings, two of her daughters were defiled
by the two suspects; the suspects were later
identified as one Chidi Eze, 24, Sunday Nwogu,
23. Chidi has been arraigned in court on
August 12.
"Later on, Nwogu was arrested and had made
statements to the police in which they
confessed to the crime and added that they
were sent to the woman's house to retrieve
the motorcycle that was given to her for
election campaign and the Certificate of Return
given to her by Ebonyi State Independent
Electoral Commission (EBSIEC).
"These were the things they were sent to
collect from the woman by an unnamed
politician in the area. The second person
arrested will soon be arraigned in court."
The Police PRO said the police were still
investigating the matter to ascertain who sent
the assailants to the home of the victims.
Ottah who was met behind police counter told
journalists that he was innocent.
