Genevieve Nnaji Becomes Judge on Miss Earth Beauty Pageant

Actress Genevieve Nnaji will become a guest
judge at the 2013 Miss Earth Nigeria.
The Nollywood star was recently announced
alongside other international stars such as
Austrian-born actor and former model, Boris
Kodjoe , Amber Rose, Karly Redd and Kelechi
Amadi Obi.
According to NET, Director of the Nigerian arm
of Miss Earth International, Ibinabo
Fiberesima said: "The year's edition would be
different because we are currently in talks with
top dignitaries who are passionate about the
environment and the earth at large."
Director Fiberesima, a former beauty queen
and current President of the Actors' Guild of
Nigeria, AGN, has been co-ordinating the
pageant for about a decade now.
Nollywood actress, Ufuoma Ejenobor is a

and won the crown in 2004 before delving into
the movie industry.
The eventual winner will represent Nigeria at
the World Miss Earth Pageant in the United

Ibadan Man Arrested For Stealing Noodles

A middle-aged man, Moses Eze, is set to
appear in court for breaking into a shop
belonging to Mrs Grace Bamigbola around
Jerusalem area, Ojoo, Ibadan, carting away
items which included two cartons of noodles.
Crime & Security learnt that the police officers
were alerted when neighbours sensed a
strange happening in one of the shops in the
area. But before the police could reach the
area, the looters had completed their mission.
Luck, however, ran out on them when
policemen suspected a man waiting to board a
vehicle at Isokin junction with some items.
The suspect happened to be Eze and was
brought to the police station with the items.
In the morning, Mrs Bamigbola came to the
station to lodge a complaint that her shop
where she was selling food items and
provision was burgled overnight with some
items carted away. The Police showed her all
the items recovered from the suspect but to
their surprise the items were identified by Mrs
Bamigbola as her property.
Eze is now set to be arraigned in court for
prosecution.

Health Workers Call Off 7-day-old Strike

Joint Health Workers' Union of Nigeria
(JOHESU) has called off the strike it embarked
upon on Wednesday, Aug. 21 to push for
improved welfare of the workers.
The minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka
Wogu announced this on Tuesday in Abuja,
after a 12 hour closed-door meeting with the
union leaders.
He said the strike was suspended based on an
agreement reached between the Federal
Government and the union.
"We have reached an understanding after a
lengthy deliberation which started yesterday
and we resumed at 8 O'clock in the morning
today.
"We were able to reach an understanding
which has been signed and based on that
understanding the unions have agreed to
suspend the strike which was embarked upon,"
he said.
The President of JOHESU, Dr Ayuba Wabba,
said the union decided to suspend the strike
based on the agreement it had with the federal
government.
"As enumerated by the Minister of Labour and
Productivity, the Joint Health Sector Union as
you are aware embarked on an industrial
action based on some grievances.
"Painstakingly we have looked at these issues
and through the process of collective
bargaining we have been able to come to
conclusion.
"We on this side of the divide are convinced
that all the issues in dispute have been
addressed.
"Arising from this agreement the industrial
action that we have embarked upon is hereby
suspended.
"This is to give room to full implementation of
the agreement that has been signed today," he
said.
He expressed optimism that the demand of the
union would be met in the next two weeks or
one month agreed upon by the two parties.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports
that at the end of the meeting, a five-page
Memorandum of Understanding was signed by
the federal government and representatives of
the unions.
Issues deliberated upon included the
constitution of board of management of
Teaching Hospitals, retirement age and
implementation of 2008 Job Evaluation Report.
Others are: promotion from CONHESS 14 to
CONHESS 15 and constitution of a presidential
committee to see to the implementation of the
agreement.
The meeting, which commenced at 10:00 a.m.
after the Minister of Labour and Productivity,
Emeka Wogu, addressed newsmen did not end
until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The negotiation, which commenced on
Monday, Aug. 26, ended inconclusively, while
Wogu promised that the parties would
reconvene on Tuesday, Aug. 27, by 8:00a.m.
In attendance at the meeting were: Wogu;
Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu;
President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)
Abdulwaheed Omar; TUC President, Bala
Kaigama; President of JOHESU, Wabba; and
other representatives of JOHESU.
JOHESU had proceeded on an indefinite strike
action from 12 midnight of Wednesday, Aug.
21, following inability of federal government to
resolve some issues between it and health

3 die, 4 Injured, 18 Others Arrested At Aiye Cult Initiation

The combined team of Kwara State Police
Command and Vigilance group in Ilorin, Saturday
night, swooped on the hideout of Aiye
Confraternity initiation which led to death of
three, four critically injured while 18 were
arrested.
The cultists from neighbouring states, who were
returning from an initiation ceremony were
mistaken for robbers by the security operatives.
The command Police Public Relations Officer
(PPRO), Olufemi Fabode, a Deputy
Superintendent of Police, DSP, confirmed the
incident in Ilorin.
Fabode explained that prior to the incident, the
police had information that on Saturday night,
robbers were hiding in a bush behind NASFAT
village along Airport Road, Ilorin preparatory to
unleashing terror on the residents of the area.
He said: "This prompted various vigilance groups
in the communities around the place to mount
sentry on all roads that lead to the bush and
waited until early hours of the morning when the
Aiye Conferternity completed their initiation.
"Unaware that ambush had been laid for them,
they ran into it. The vigilance groups mistook
them for robbers and opened fire on them."
The PPRO said during the exchange of gun fire,
three of the cult members fell and were almost
burnt before men of the command got there.
The police spokesman confirmed that three of
the cultists died, four critically injured and 18 of
them were arrested and are being interrogated
by the men of the state CID.
He said some of the cultist came from as far as
Lagos, Osun, Ibadan and Oro respectively, adding
that more of them will be arrested
He said investigation still continues while those
died have been taken to the University of Ilorin
Teaching Hospital mortary , the injured taken to
hospital and the rest 18 are cooling their feet
with the CID.
He enjoined Kwarans "to always give useful
information to the Police with a view to make the
state crime free and warned parents to monitor
their wards as some of those arrested disclosed
that they were yet to gain admission to higher
institution, neither their parents know their where
about,saying if this could happen then they
would graduate to become kingpin of the group,"
he noted.
He however urged the members of various
security agencies in the state to partner with the
command in its untiring efforts to make kwara
state a crisis free one

Federal Govt Orders 200 New Trains To Arrive By December

The Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, has
announced that the Nigeria Railway Corporation,
NRC, would receive additional 200 wagons by
December to boost transportation in the country.
Mr. Umar while flagging-off and inaugurating
four new locomotives and two telescopic cranes
at the Apapa Port, Lagos, said that the NRC was
set to reclaim its lost glory as a catalyst for
development in Nigeria.
He said that the corporation would collaborate
with the customs and other security agents in
order to ensure efficient business activities at the
port.
The completion of the rehabilitation of the
Western line had made it possible for the
corporation to introduce freight and passenger
trains' service.
"About one month ago, weekly Lagos-Kano
intercity passenger train service was introduced
to increase the number of services already
provided. Today the corporation is flagging-off a
container train service from Lagos to Kaduna and
Kano. It is also inaugurating two newly acquired
telescopic cranes and four 1800HP locomotive
engines," Mr. Baraje said.
The Managing Director of the corporation,
Adeseyi Sijuwade, recalled that container train
services in Nigeria were suspended years ago
due to poor infrastructure.
"The acquisition of the facilities was part of
Federal Government's efforts to sustain the drive
to transform the nation's socio-economic
development.
He said that the four locomotives were known as
class 23 locomotives in the fleet of locomotives.
"The four new locomotives to be inaugurated are
self loaded with on-board computer, double
drivers' panel, and fully air-conditioned cabins.
The engine in each of the locomotives is
Caterpillar's 1800 model 3512B engine with
capability of a design speed of 100kmph," Mr.
Sijuwade said.
He said that the NRC was now better equipped
to deal with emergencies, with the two new 100
tons railway cranes.

Man, 32, Raped Woman, 72, To Death in Abia

A Nigerian woman, 72, has been raped to death
in Abia state by a 32-year-old man whose
nickname is Ochu.
The incident happened on Sunday in Ibom Village
in Arochukwu, Abia state, eastern Nigeria.
According to the NAN, the deceased went to fetch
fodder for her goats around 5 p.m. in a nearby
bush when she was trailed by Ochu to where he
raped her to death.
The source said the man, a notorious Indian
hemp smoker, was known for trailing and raping
women in the area.
It said that before Ochu left the deceased, he
pulled her corpse to a nearby footpath for people
to see it and then run away.
The source said the assailant was arrested on
Monday in Ohafia when he was identified by a
woman who was privy to the information about
the crime.
The woman, who was in a bus on the way to a
nearby village, alerted military men at a check
point on the road.
The source said the military men arrested him
and later handed him over to the police in that
area before he was moved to Arochukwu.

Cultists Attack 7 Churches, Shoot Worshippers, Set Priests’ Residence Ablaze In Anambra

Hell was let loose in the early hours yesterday at
Oba-Ofemmili community in Awka-North Local
Government Area of Anambra State, when some
youths, suspected to be cultists attacked
Christians in their worship places, shot and
inflicted machete wounds on over 50 of them.
The attackers also went on rampage, looting and
burning churches in the community. Some of the
churches burnt include Assemblies of God Church,
Grace of God Church, Deeper Life Bible Church,
Winners Church, Christ Holy Church, St. Paul's
Catholic Church and another pentecostal church.
The assailants, according to the victims, attacked
the worshippers with dangerous weapons,
shooting sporadically and wounding several
people. They were said to have invaded no fewer
than seven churches, burning and destroying
everything within their reach.
A two-year old baby was among the victims.
It was gathered that trouble started in the
community over disagreement between the
Christians and the idol worshippers on the
cultural night masquerade, a local fetish cult
opposed by Christians in the area.
A victim of the incident, who gave his name as
Mr Sunday Aliuba, said they were in the church
when the miscreants stormed their church, armed
with guns and machetes. He said they swooped
on the congregation and inflicted machete
wounds on them, causing stampede as people
struggled to escape from the church.
Hear him: "How it happened was that Oba-
Ofemili and the Christians had an agreement that
the night masquerades will not start by 9pm, and
we were having our programmes according to the
rules. But on Monday night, I was at the crusade
when we heard that the pagans will burn down all
the churches. Around 11pm, they started shooting
sporadically into the air, causing everybody to
shiver. Around 1.00am on Tuesday, they stormed
the church, and razed down the parish priest's
house and pursued everybody in the church. We
hid under the staircase and under the pews.
"In self-defence, we pounced on some of them.
As it got hotter, my colleagues ran away. I also
ran but they pursued me and shot me in the legs,
shattering my ankles and bones. They also
inflicted machete wounds on me. The blood that
came out of my body can fill two buckets. It is
only God that is sustaining my life till now."
When contacted, the priest of St. Paul's Anglican
Church, whose parish church was razed, Rev.
Pat. Odinanwa, said series of efforts made to
ensure peace in the community between the
church and the community failed. He said the
pagans nursed pathological hatred for Christians
in the community. According to him, there were
agreements reached between the church and the
community, but the pagans sought all avenues to
stop Christians from worshipping God in the
community.
According to him, over 50 persons sustained
gunshot and machete wounds, while seven
churches were burnt by the irate youths. He said
Christians in the area had been living in fear, as
the youths threatened further attack today.

Tanker Fire In Ibadan Injures Five, Destroys Shops

A fuel tanker burst into flames at Orogun
junction in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, killing
three and injuring five persons. The deaths
however cannot be immediately confirmed.
Firemen who were called to the scene to
douse the flames were said to have rushed the
victims to the hospital. The firemen however,
denied reports that three persons died in the
incident.
Eyewitnesses said the fuel tanker caught fire
when the fuel it was carrying was being
transferred to another tanker.
Apart from the burnt tanker and injured
persons, about eight shops and two Sport
Utility Vehicles were also burnt.
The incident reportedly happened around 1
p.m.
Sources said vehicle owners who had parked
by the roadside were seen scrambling to get
to their cars to hurriedly evacuate their
vehicles.

Rivers Sport Commissioner Escapes Assassination

Mr. Fred
Igwe, was on Sunday shot by suspected
assassins, reports have said.
Details are still sketchy though, but the state
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Angela
Agabe, yesterday, confirmed the development.
According to her, the commissioner was
responding to treatment at an undisclosed
hospital in the state.
Agabe said that some unknown gunmen
opened fire on him at Akpajo area of the state
in a bid to end the commissioner's life, but he
survived the murder attempt, adding that she
was yet to get details on the incident.
The commissioner was said to be in a Toyota
Corolla with plate number GCG 11, when the
gunmen overtook his vehicle around Akpajo
area, and opened fire on him at about 8:15
p.m. on Sunday.

Two Killed, One Injured In Abuja Building Collapse

No fewer than two persons were feared dead in a
building collapse on Tuesday, in Abuja while
another person was critically injured and
receiving treatment in the hospital.
Confirming the incident, Information Officer of
National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,
Mr. Sani Datti, said, three people were casting
concrete at an uncompleted building behind
Dunes Plaza in Maitaima, Abuja, when suddenly
the concrete collapsed and trapped them.
After the relevant emergency agencies rescued
the trapped workers, two people were feared
dead and one person was critically injured and
was rushed to the hospital.
The two people that died were identified as
Hamza and Friday, while Ganiyu Akande who
was critically injured had been taken to the
hospital.

Mother Of Boy Hiding In Tyre Of Arik Plane

The mother of the 13-year-old stowaway,
Ricky Daniel Ohikhena, who on Friday hid in
the tyrecompartment of an Arik plane on
a flight from Benin to Lagos, was on Monday
quizzed for hours by a combined team of
security operatives from the Department of
State Security Service and aviation security.
The mother, Evelyn, who confirmed that she
was quizzed by the SSS operatives, said her
son was a nice boy who never displayed any
tendency for such a dangerous venture.
An embattled Evelyn said Daniel was a nice
boy who did not mingle with bad friends.
She said, "My son answers Daniel in school
and Ricky at home. I went to my elder sister's
place who put to bed and when I got home the
next morning (Saturday), I couldn't find him.
My daughter told me that they quarrelled in the
night because he woke at midnight to
watch movies and she told him to
stop watching movie in the night and she said
he eventually slept in the parlour while she
said she went back to sleep in the room.
"One of his younger brothers said he saw him
remove all his school books from his bag; so I
asked my neighbours whether any of them saw
him and they told me that at around 5 to 6
am, they heard sounds that somebody was
opening the gate but never thought it was my
son. He doesn't go out. What I know is that
he is always watching films in the house but
he doesn't have friends.
"I went to Oba Market police station, they
referred me to Evbuotubu police station, when I
got there they said they will declare him
missing after 24 hours and that I should come
back the next day."
Speaking on the type of person her son is,
Evelyn said, "He is always at home, I have
never seen anybody come to look for him and
he doesn't have friends. I am begging the
government to help me, because I have never
been to the airport before, I have been to
Lagos before so they should help me. I don't
know how he manage to get there but I just
thank God that he is alive.

No New Students: All 25,000 Students Fail In University Admission Test

Every single student who applied for admission
into the University of Liberia failed the school's
admission test, and there were over 25,000 of
them!
A university official said students who took the
$25 exam did not have a basic understanding of
English, the BBC reports, and it was the first
time that all entrants failed.
Liberia's President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has
said the country's education system is still "in a
mess" following a civil war that ended a decade
ago.
Education Minister Etmonia David-Tarpeh will
meet with university officials to discuss the 100
percent failure rate, the BBC reports.
"I know there are a lot of weaknesses in the
schools but for a whole group of people to take
exams and every single one of them to fail, I
have my doubts about that," David-Tarpeh said.
"It's like mass murder."

Bus Conductor strips self naked, stabs LASTMA Official

A conductor of a commercial bus identified
simply as Ibrahim has been arraigned in a Lagos
court for allegedly stabbing an official of the
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority,
Akingbohungbe Olalekan, in the hand.
The driver of a Volkswagen wagon with number
plate LAGOS XB 990 AAA, on Wednesday around
3.10pm was obstructing the free flow of traffic
by picking and allowing passengers to alight
from his bus at an unauthorized place in Ojota
area of the state. He was apprehended by
Olalekan and another LASTMA official, Alabi
Emmanuel, who attempted to impound his
vehicle. Olalekan ended up getting stabbed.

driver descended on the officials, beat them up
and tore their uniforms.It was learnt that
Ibrahim later stripped himself naked and stood in
front of the bus. Our correspondent gathered
that a team of policemen and traffic enforcement
agents later arrived at the scene.
But the driver reportedly fled while the 28-year-
old conductor was arrested and arraigned at a
special offences tribunal in Alausa on
Wednesday.
At the tribunal, Ibrahim was charged with breach
of public peace, obstructing state officers from
carrying out their lawful duty, assault and traffic
violation by picking passengers in places that
were not bus stops.
When his plea was taken, he pleaded not guilty
to all the charges.
Magistrate Yetunde Phinero admitted the
accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 and two
sureties in the like sum. She adjourned the case
till June 21, 2012. But the accused was
remanded as he could not meet the bail
condition.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr.
Babatunde Edu, on Friday warned that the
agency would prosecute traffic offenders,
especially the violent ones.
Edu , who said prosecuting traffic offenders
would serve as a deterrent to errant motorists,
said the warning became imperative in view of
the rising cases of attacks on LASTMA officials
in recent times.
He said, "LASTMA officials have been trained to
be civil in their approach and we do not tolerate
act of indiscipline among our officials. But a
situation where they are attacked while
performing their official duties by errant drivers
would no longer be condoned.
"The law is no respecter of anybody and it is
necessary that motorists obey traffic rules and
regulations to ensure sanity on our roads.
"Rather than take the laws into their hands, we
implore motorists to report errant LASTMA
officials and we assure them that we will carry
out a thorough investigation and act
accordingly. We do not condone any act of
indiscipline among our officials and we do not
cover them up if they erred."

Man Rapes, Impregnates Underage Daughter of Lagos Lawyer

A 42-year old suspect, identified
as Rasak Ishola, has been arrested
by the police for allegedly raping
and impregnating a 16-year old
daughter of a legal practitioner in Lagos State.
The incident took place at their Igando residence,
where the victim, her family and the defendant
reside.
Rasak Ishola also allegedly aborted the
pregnancy without her parent's knowledge. The
complications arising from the abortion made the
girl fall sick.
When her parents became apprehensive about her
illness and asked her what happened and why her
condition had deteriorated over time, she then
opened up and confessed what happened to her.
The angry father went to the police and reported
the incident.
Ishola, who originates from Ogun state, was
arrested and detained at Igando Police Division
where he was charged to Ejigbo Magistrate's
court with the alleged offences under the Criminal
Code.
Ishola, who is married and has three children,
allegedly admitted that the teenage girl was his
girlfriend and that he had been sleeping with her
without his wife's knowledge.
"I knew her six months ago and since she was
living in the same area with me, we were meeting
secretly until she became pregnant," he narrated.
The suspect denied the rape charge against him
and claimed she is above 18 years old and had
just gained admission into Delta State University
as a first year student.
Ishola said when she became pregnant, her
father, who is a legal practioner, started making
trouble with him, and his efforts to settle the
matter with the lawyer failed because he said he
could not meet his conditions.
Asked what could have led him into all that, he
said it was temptation and not that he actually
raped her.
Ishola said he kept the affairs away from his wife
and because of the incident his wife has now
known what she was not supposed know and
hear.
When he was brought to the court to be
arraigned, the court discovered that the victim
was a minor and decided to shelve the trial. The
presiding Magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami ordered
that the matter should be transferred to a Family
Court at Ikeja.

Boy Found Under Arik Plane Tyre Hole Thought He Was Going To The US

The 14 year old boy who beat airline and airport
security at Benin airport on Saturday August
24th and flew in the tyre hole of a Lagos-bound
Arik plane actually thought he was on his way to

Sources at Benin Airport said Daniel Ikehina ran
away from home because he was being
maltreated and was trying to escape from his
parents when he joined the Arik flight.
Unfortunately for him the plane wasn't flying to
the US, it was flying to Lagos where the
stowaway was immediately arrested as he
alighted from the wheel well of the aircraft.
Daniel is presently in the custody of the State
Security Service (SSS) who are trying to unravel

Woman Steals 4Mnt Old Baby During Sunday Service In Abuja

Police Prosecutor, Simon Emmanuel, told an
Abuja Chief Magistrates' Court on Friday how
a 20-year-old woman, Juli Markus, stole the
four-month-old baby during Sunday Service.
The baby's father, Obadiah Idi, of the Kado
area of Federal Capital Territory, reported the
matter at the Life Camp Police Station on June
30.While they were attending a Sunday church
service in Kado, Juli Markus deceived his 11-
year-old daughter, Rebecca, who was holding
the baby, and collected the baby from her.
Emmanuel said the convict escaped with the
baby to an unknown destination, but was
found and arrested by the police. He said that
during interrogation, the convict confessed to
committing the crime, saying that she took the
baby to Auta Balefi Town in Nasarawa State
where she sold him to one Christiana Zaka.Mr.
Emmanuel said that Ms. Zaka, the convict's
accomplice, was later arrested and the baby,
named Daniel, recovered from her.
The Abuja Chief Magistrates' Court thus
sentenced Juli Markus to five years
imprisonment without an option of fine. The
Chief Magistrate, Fati Tafida, said that the
convict is guilty as charged.
Her accomplice, 43-yrs old Ms. Zaka is now
standing trial on a one count charge of
receiving a stolen child.

Wristwatch Causes Problems In The Super Eagles Dressing Room

Some Super Eagles players have accused one
of the coaches of the national team of
extorting money from players through his
wristwatch business.
The correspondent learnt that the coach would
buy the wristwatches at cheap prices in
Europe, only to sell them at ridiculous rates for
the players.
According to the players, they became enemies
of the said coach if they refused to buy the
wristwatches from him.
"The coach buys the wristwatches between
$500 and $1000 in Europe and forces us to
buy them for $10000. If you don't buy, you are
regarded as an enemy," one of the senior
players of the national team, who pleaded
anonymity, told our correspondent.
"The most painful thing is that these
wristwatches are sold at very cheap prices in
Europe; they go for between $500 and $1000
but he brings them here to sell for us at such
outrageous prices. I have to buy or I would be
seen as encouraging the other players not to
buy."
Another player, who plays in Eastern Europe,
also complained of the same problem. The
player, who also pleaded anonymity, said he
almost lost his place in one of the junior
national teams because of the wristwatches.
"Before I moved to my present club, I was on
an apprentice contract, which means I wasn't
collecting much money but the coach forced
me to buy the watch.
"The same thing happened to me, when I was
invited to the senior team. It is not good for
the team because a lot of players are
grumbling, though they can't come out and
say it."
An official of the team confirmed the story
saying, "I have heard about the story before."
But the Eagles media officer, Ben Alaiya,
denied any knowledge of the illegal
transactions.
He said, "I am not aware of any such story.
The Super Eagles is not a market place; if at
all anything like that is happening, I think it's
a private transaction between those involved.
But I am not aware of anything like that."

Arik Air has expressed shock over how a
teenager at the Benin Airport beat aviation
security checks at the city Airport to stowaway
into the main wheel of its aircraft.
The airline said it was becoming increasingly

Jubilation as First International Flight Lands in Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu

**this is the first time the Igbos are opportune to
leave the country from their own land for nearly
45 years.
It was jubilation galore, Saturday, as the first
international aircraft, the Ethiopian Airline Boeing
737-800 ET-APL landed at the Akanu Ibiam
International Airport, Enugu.
The aircraft which took off from Addis Ababa, the
Ethiopian capital touched down at the
reconstructed Enugu airport at 12.13pm. It's
safe arrival sparked jubilation from the cultural
troupes, airport workers and a the huge crowd
that assembled to welcome it. The crowd was
made up of people from the five South East
states, who showered praises on President
Goodluck Jonathan for fulfilling his promise to
give Ndigbo an international airport.
As the Boeing 737-800 marked ET-APL taxied
along the tarmac, it was 'baptized' with a "flood
and flush" of clean water from the two fire
fighting trucks stationed on both sides of the
tarmac until it was almost covered with the
"flush-and-splatter of water".
An official of Federal Airports Authority of
Nigeria, FAAN, said the flood of water on the
aircraft was a way of "toasting it" to mark the
celebration of its safe arrival.

of blockage placed on Ndi Igbo, as this is the

Ubiebifayan, popularly known as Amaikah, in a
recent chat with Saturday Beats, said that the
reason women are not as vibrant as men in the
entertainment industry is because they do not
take their time to study the market.

The fair-skinned singer and mother of three said,
"For me, it is not about competition right now,
music is life to me. It is a business, you need to
know the market; have a target audience. Once
you have established that, you have done more
than half of the job. I think the reason why
women are lagging behind in the industry is
because they don't see music as a business.
Apart from the fact that we have the passion for
music, it is also a business. They should know
the market, that is what the men are doing and
we are not. There is also what I call the 'woman
factor'. Women tend to lean back a bit when
they get married and start having children. For
me, I have gone past that stage. I am so ready
now."
The singer said that she speaks various African
languages and sings in the three major
languages in Nigeria fluently. She added that she
also sings in the languages spoken in some
African countries including South-Africa, Ghana,
Kenya and Tanzania.
Recalling how she began in the industry, she
said that she had to sneak out of the house for
performances because her Bishop father would
not allow her.
"I joined a band when I was 13-years-old and
began as a back-up singer. I have been doing it
for a long while. At 19, I joined another band, the
Heavenly Band, headed by my husband. We got
along and eventually got married. Now he is my
number one fan. It was a very terrible experience
starting out because my father was a bishop
before he died. There was this band called the
Pastors Band, I was the smallest there. I did a
jingle and the next thing, I began getting calls to
continue and my father did not like it because I
was really young.
The plan I devised was to tell anybody that
wanted me for a show to go and ask my father.
There was a time I actually sneaked out of the
house and by the time I came back, my father
was waiting for me outside the house with my
property. He later gave his consent before
death," the singer said.
