The Anambra State Police Command has
intensified the search for two traditional
rulers kidnapped on Sunday in the state.
The traditional ruler of Awgbu in Orumba North
Local Government of the state, Igwe Mike
Okechukwu, Eze di Ora Mma II, was on Sunday
abducted by a gang of four gunmen in Awka while
travelling with his wife in the new Sport Utility Van
recently donated by Governor Peter Obi.
The kidnappers, who operated in a red SUV, were
said to have accosted the monarch and his wife at
Kwata Junction and took him away in their vehicle.
Igwe Okechukwu was said to be taking his wife to a
hospital for medical attention before the incident.
No contact had been established with the gang but
the Police said on Monday that they were doing
everything possible to secure his release.
Earlier on Friday, the traditional ruler of Abacha
community in Idemili North Local Government,
Igwe Goddy Mbakwe, was abducted by another
gang of gunmen at about 6pm, near Ugwunwasike,
Ogidi.
Confirming the two kidnap incidents, the state
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka
Chukwuemeka, said the command was working
round the clock to ensure that the two monarchs
were rescued and the abductors arrested.
Though, he said he was not aware of any contact
with the kidnappers, abductors of the Igwe of
Abacha were said to have demanded N80m
ransom.
