Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has
assured the residents of the state that flood will
never again be a problem in the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of free surgical
mission by his administration on Thursday in
Iwo, Aregbesola said proactive measures had
been taken to check flooding and ensure the
bitter experience of three years ago does not
happen again.
He recalled that shortly before his
administration came into power in 2010, flood
had wrecked havoc in Osun, stressing that
widening and channelisation of rivers, streams
and canals by his administration stopped its
recurrence.
"Osun will never experience flooding again.
What we have done is comprehensive. It is a
solution to flooding. We took our time in
desilting our waterways and clearing of
drainages," Aregbesola said.
"Shortly before we came into power, there was
massive flooding, which swept people away. We
have decided and taken action that this shall
never happen in Osun again. Since we came on
board, Osun has never witnessed flooding."
Aregbesola said apart from the obvious havoc
caused by flooding, flooding also has the
potential of spreading water-borne diseases
across the state.
