Yobe Approves N187m Compensation For Boko Haram Victims

The sum of N187 million has been approved
by the Yobe State Government as compensation to victims of recent Boko Haram attacks in the state.

This was revealed Thursday by the state's
Commissioner for Information, Goni Fika, in a parley with newsmen in the state capital,
Damaturu.
Fika, who said the decision was taken at an
executive council meeting of the state
government, added that another N259 million
was approved for the payment of WAEC and
NECO fees for all students in its public schools.
Speaking shortly after the council meeting
chaired by the Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, Fika said the decision to pay compensation was based on the Assessment Report of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

He revealed that the SEMA report stated that 99 persons were killed across the state this year while 135 others were either injured or had their houses burnt during the attacks.

"Yobe Government has today approved the sum of N187.4 million as assistance to those whose houses were burnt and the people innocently killed by unidentified gunmen or bomb blasts in the state," Mr. Fika said.

Yobe is one of the states presently under
emergency rule.
